2’s and 22’s are special to me, for synchronous sacred feminine reasons. This episode will be my last episode for a while, friends. I’m taking a podcast and social media sabbatical in order to finish two book projects! One of the book’s contents is explored in this episode… We are living in a time of emotional honesty and the healing of lineages. I have felt the unresolved, misplaced feelings in my body that women in my 7 generation Mormon matrilineal line could not fully feel in theirs. In 2018, I finally took POLYGAMY off my psychological shelf, went on a sacred Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage to France, and found myself spinning into an awakening I never expected. There can be a collision of two paths in your spiritual life, where exploration of feminine equality and problematic history comes face-to-face with the structures and beliefs of your faith. It can be a space of tension and tremendous discomfort, being confronted with the limitations and inconsistencies you’re discovering within your religious tradition. You hit a crashing point, or a crossroads, which can “force” you to question deeply held beliefs and reassess your relationship with your faith. My guest Celeste M. Davis @celestemdavis had a sacred feminist awakening journey that paralleled my own, in the same year and with the same religion of origin (Latter-day Saint) although we didn’t know each other at the time. Celeste is a mother of 4 and a spiritual director specializing in LDS faith crises and faith transitions. She writes a weekly Substack on how to scratch that existential itch when the existential tools of our past no longer satisfy. Sacred Feminine spirituality is about liberation and individuation -alongside mature collaboration. Many of us are seeking to find our authentic voices after disassociating from belief structures that have disassociated us from our bodies. In my case, there were times I felt pressured to ignore my intuition and comply with religious leaders for fear of divine retribution. My soul sister from Scotland, Dr. Morgana McCabe Allan, was given an ultimatum by her religious leaders to either walk away from her church or go into a room of men for an exorcism (she chose to walk away). This never was The Way; imposing fear-based ultimatums in the name of God. We are living in a time when ancient plant medicines are making a strong comeback. The conversation around psychedelic medicine has shifted significantly in the past 10-15 years and has been covered by popular media outlets. This shift is attributed to the mental health crisis, with approximately 50 million Americans diagnosed with mental health conditions and the pandemic exacerbating the issue. People are desperate to heal and are seeking out unconventional methods. In this episode, we explore psychedelics’ (particularly psilocybin/mushrooms’) potential for healing and discuss the societal stigma surrounding them, as well as the need for open conversations around their safe use. How might the generational cultural-collective “witch wound” factor into the downplaying of our intuition… and impact the expression of our inherent gifts? Gulp. I’ve wanted to share this particular aspect of my story with you listeners for a while, especially because I receive several messages and texts to the effect of, “Where are you at with the church?” The truth is, I’ve always seen my journey out of orthodoxy as very private and my personal awakening path as very tender and sacred…so I’ve been reluctant to share details publicly. I’m sharing now because I’ve had insistent feelings that there are people in transition who need to hear what precipitated my decision, from a Sacred Feminine perspective, to take a step back from structured religion. As many of you know, my religion of origin is Latter-day Saint, or “Mormonism.” This is a recording of Magdalene Origins author Lisa Maria interviewing me last year.
