Their Acts Were In Tents

For our 200th episode, we cover PT Barnum's sideshow people, or "freaks," who were unique individuals with physical or medical conditions who played a vital role in his entertainment empire. Their extraordinary appearances and captivating stories drew large crowds, while Barnum aimed to promote acceptance and celebrate human differences, though criticism arose regarding his portrayal, which some viewed as perpetuating stereotypes and exploitation.  For dinner, we had fair foods, walking tacos, and Mexican street corn. For dessert, we had fried Oreos and spiked lemonade.  Time stamp: 28:47 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast  https://linktr.ee/wdst Darkcast Network Podcasts Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Amazon Prime Suspect

For over a decade, Todd Kohlhepp managed to evade capture for his criminal activities. He became known as the "Amazon Review Killer" due to his chilling online presence. Kohlhepp left unsettling reviews on Amazon for various products, some of which he likely used in his crimes. The reviews added another disturbing layer to his already violent and sinister profile.  This week we share his story and a delicious meal consisting of hamburger steaks with Bourbon mushroom gravy, southern-style green beans, buttermilk mashed potatoes, and the most delicious Nutter Butter banana pudding this side of the Mason Dixon. We also shared a local Southern New Jersey drink called Sea Isle Spiked Tea. All were unimaginably delicious.  Time stamp: 25:37 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast  https://linktr.ee/wdst Darkcast Network Podcasts Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Just Wing It

Rikers Island is a tough prison no one will question that, but what happened there on the evening of February 1, 1957, changed many lives some had left there to rot. This week we share the story of the heroics of an unlikely crew and the lives that changed because of them.  For dinner, we had Cindy’s own chicken parmesan on a bed of pasta, and for dessert, we had caramel apple cheesecake cupcakes. For drinks, we had 19 Crimes The Uprising red wine.  Time stamp: 18:37 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast  https://linktr.ee/wdst Darkcast Network Podcasts Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Senseless in Idaho

A senseless crime, four innocent lives, one wannabe serial killer, a town upended, and a country asking why? This week we cover the Moscow Idaho tragedy with a guest who experienced firsthand what it was like to be on campus in the days following the massacre.  For dinner, our theme was Idaho so think butter steaks and baked potatoes. For dessert, ice cream baked potatoes; almost too cute to eat. For drinks, we had whiskey sours; our favorites and apparently Idaho’s too.  Time stamp: 20:00 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: Crime Diner https://linktr.ee/wdst%5C Darkcast Network Podcasts Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Taken To New Heists

This week we cover the story of "Cowboy Bob," who remains an intriguing figure in the annals of bank robbery history, remembered for their daring heists and the unexpected reveal of their true identity.  Our meal theme was Texas so we delighted in some BBQ ribs with a delicious Texas two step coleslaw and Texas style new potato salad. For dessert, we shared buttermilk Texas sheet cake which had a rich sweet flavor. And for drinks we had Texas ranch water which was better than it sounds.  Time stamp: 23:53 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: The Crime Diner Podcast https://linktr.ee/wdst Darkcast Network Podcasts Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! Undying Love and Detention

This week we cover a bizarre and twisted story of love, betrayal, and attempted murder. The Toto family was not your usual dysfunctional marriage. This was a coupling so passionate that divorce was not an option and in the end they proved that marriage can be a dark comedy of sorts. Our theme was Italian Mom and Pop Pizzeria. For dinner, we had homemade white pizza with mushroom, bacon and shallots and pepperoni pizza with dollops of garlic ricotta. For dessert, we tried Crazy for Crusts’, Easy Brownie Pizza. Our drink was a local brew from the Cape May Brewing Company.  Time stamp: 32:05 Check out our linktree for links to our socials and ways to listen and support our podcast: https://linktr.ee/wdst Darkcast Network https://www.darkcastnetwork.com/ This week we also got to work with some other podcasts we think you should check out! When the residents of the otherwise quiet town of Broken Arrow Oklahoma awoke on July 23, 2015, they had no idea that while they slept soundly in their beds another family was being annihilated. This week we cover the Broken Arrow Murders our apologies in advance.  The dining theme this week was Oklahoma. Murphy’s Law & Disorder

This week we share the story of Ed “the Skull” Murphy, a complex man whose redemption story within the gay community became a thing of pride; pun intended. The dinner and dessert theme went along with his heritage which was Italian and Irish. We had bolognese stuffed shells for dinner and Irish cream tiramisu for dessert. E Bully On Executive Doodoo

This week we cover the story of a small town couple who begin getting death threats and mysterious packages after publishing a popular newsletter. The stalking becomes bizarre and then becomes exponentially worse after they find out who’s behind the cyberterrorism.  For dinner, we went coast to coast.  We did a San Diego, California burrito stuffed with chicken and fries with a side of STREET CORN!! Clutch my pearls it was delicious. Next up was Boston Cream Pie which looks nothing like a pie but tastes amazing. For drinks, we had a Cape Codder. What’s in that you may ask? Yet no one was ever charged with the murder. We discuss the case and her fight for justice. Paper Bullets

This week we cover a story of love in the time of war. This is the story of Lucy Schwob (Claude Cahun) and Suzanne Malherbe (Marcel Moore), a trans lesbian couple who used their art as weapons against the Nazi regime; and won.  The theme was France and so, of course, the meal was French. Cindy prepared a coq-au-vin with homemade French bread. We also had classic French chocolate pots de creme and a delicious Bourdeaux. Oui Oui.
