Killing Jesus - The Substitute - Jason Paredes

We have rebelled against God and hated him and others in our hearts, and we deserve the condemnation and death that such sin warrants. Jesus, the obedient, innocent one, was condemned to death so that disobedient, guilty sinners like you and me could be set free. If we believe this to be true, what can we do but worship him?

Killing Jesus - When Darkness Rules - Gary Smith

We fail to recognize Jesus is the Christ, our only hope; therefore, we betray his love, mock him, and reject his rule. Because of this, darkness reigns in our lives. Jesus is the Christ. He is and always will be God's only provision for our rescue. He rules in power at the Father's right hand, and where he rules, darkness does not prevail.

Killing Jesus - Faith Over Feeling - Matt Hunter

We struggle with falling into temptation because we tend to respond to circumstances through our feelings rather than through faith in God. Jesus overcame the cross by submitting to God’s will through prayer in the garden. Prayer in the midst of temptation is dependency on God’s power to overcome the desire to sin that I can’t overcome in my strength. It is prayer that grants me the power to walk in Faith instead of my feelings.

Killing Jesus - The Pressure is On - Jason Paredes

We tend to compromise our values when we don’t feel safe. When danger comes our tendancy is to flee from it. The gospel gives us peace even when we are not secure. A life with Jesus isn’t guaranteed to be safe. The guarantee is found in his presence, not his protection.

Killing Jesus - How to Be Great - Jason Paredes

We tend to strive to be on top because we think it will satisfy us, but the journey up can make us enemies of God, ourselves, and everyone we care about. When we choose to humble ourselves for the sake of others, like Christ humbled himself for us (Phil 2:8), God exalts us in His kingdom, and that exaltation last for eternity.

Killing Jesus - We Killed Jesus - Jason Paredes

We try to blame everyone else for evil in the world, but evil comes from our own hearts. Judas alone didn’t set in motion Jesus’s death. We killed Jesus with our own sins. That’s why he had to go to the cross. It was to save us. Though we, like Judas, have betrayed Jesus, he chose to give his body and his blood to redeem us and save us. We need only to admit our sin, confess our part in his death, and trust in Christ’s body and blood to save us.

King Jesus? - All In - Jason Paredes

We think generosity is a dollar amount instead of a heart posture, so we either give with undue pride or we don’t give at all, thinking it doesn’t make a difference (a little drop in a huge bucket). Jesus gave us all he had, his very life, for us. In response to such generosity, how can we not give all we have to him and let him determine what generosity looks like for us?

King Jesus? - Don't Fall in Your Own Trap - Zer Surigao

WE WANT TO RULE OVER OUR OWN HEARTS AND WE TRY TO CONVINCE GOD HE SHOULD LET US. GOD LOVES US ENOUGH TO NOT LET US FALL INTO OUR OWN TRAPS. THE GOSPEL TEACHES US THAT JESUS IS THE ONE TRUE KING FOREVER. HIS LORDSHIP LEADS US TO AN ETERNAL KINGDOM THAT IS BETTER THAN THE ONE WE ARE TRYING TO RULE.

King Jesus? - Who is Calling the Shots? - Jason Paredes

We all try to control our own lives and secure our own blessings, and when we do, we find ourselves fighting against God Himself, a fight we will never win. Because of our rebellion against God’s rule, we have forfeited our lives to being crushed by the Rock of His wrath. But when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and fall on Christ, we get made into a new building (the new cornerstone) through our brokenness.

King Jesus? - Is He King - Jason Paredes

People don’t realize how polarizing Jesus is and wants to be. They think they can have him as friend and not as King. Jesus came to make us choose him as King or foe, and too many unknowingly choose him as foe. Jesus Christ is the King of creation, and he wants to be the King of our lives as well. He came to bring us peace, secured that peace on the cross, and offers it to us. But we can only have it when we bow before his rule. We must choose him as our King!

Be Known - Jason Paredes

We let fear, time constraints, past experiences, laziness, and pride keep us from being known by God and others, and we suffer the damages of isolation because of it. God sent His own Son to earth so He could be known, and so we could be fully restored to relationship with Him. And because He is a relational God, he wants us to be in relationship with each other through the gospel.

Come Let Us Adore Him - Saved from Ourselves - Jason Paredes

We all tend to be too focused on what we want, think we need, or how we feel. We all want to be sovereign over our lives and live by our own rules. Jesus came to endure a violent death so that in the violence of grace he could free us from from the kingdom of self and transport us to his kingdom of life and light that will never, ever end.

Come Let Us Adore Him - Jesus Is the Way - Jason Paredes

Because we don’t trust in Jesus as the way to the Father, we don’t recognize him as the hope from the Father. Christ’s coming to earth was a message of hope, truth, and life because it showed sinful humans how to find the way back to the Father, through the cross of Jesus Christ.

Come Let Us Adore Him - Promises Fulfilled - Jason Paredes

When we forget the majesty of the culmination of so many prophesies about the coming of the Messiah, Christmas becomes white noise instead of the faith-builder it was intended to be. Christ’s birth proved he was who he said he was, the promised Messiah. Therefore, Christ can do what he promised to do, save humanity from their sins and set the captives free. Sending Sunday - Jason Paredes

Because we don’t care about the lost, we aren’t willing to do anything to help them find the saving grace of God. If we have been redeemed by God’s glorious grace, all we can do is help others find that same grace. God is calling us to go and prepping those we will go to. All we need to do is say “yes” to taking steps toward His mission. New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? Stand Sunday - Jason Paredes

When God calls us to move in hard directions, we often go in the opposite direction to avoid discomfort or danger and suffer the consequences of our disobedience. We’ve all gone the wrong way in life, but Christ took the suffering of our consequences (3 days in the belly) so that we could have a second chance to obey. Now we must obey wherever He calls us to go to do whatever He calls us to do. New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? Exodus - Covered in the Blood - Gary Smith

We tend to make piecrust promises to God, they are easily made and easily broken. Jesus fulfilled God’s covenant. He kept all the words of the law, and he kept the promises that the Israelites couldn’t keep, and then shed his blood to cover their sin and make them clean. Jesus is the fulfillment of this passage. He died fulfilled every piecrust promise that we made to God. Our broken promise of obedience is the obedience that he completed fully! And then he willingly was the sacrifice that atoned for every one of our broken promises, so that we could be clean and brought into an eternal, unbreakable covenant relationship with God. Exodus - Trust the Process - Zer Surigao

We often doubt God’s promises and rely on our own power rather than rely on God’s power. This produces a fragmented allegiance to God. We trust him in some areas and not in others. The gospel teaches us that God made a new covenant that promises a new land delivered through his presence on this earth. A new heaven and a new earth coming through the power of his son Jesus. Because of Jesus we can trust God to fulfill all of his promises here on earth and in eternity. New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? Exodus - Give God Your Best - Jason Paredes

God always gets the last of our time, the last of our attention, the last of our possessions, and the last of our affections. And we wonder why we suffer from the last of His blessing. God gave His best to us, and all He asks is that we follow His example and give Him what He deserves, the best of our time, attention, possessions, and affections. Exodus - Living Selflessly in a Selfish World - Jason Paredes

We are so incredibly selfish that we naturally look to our own interests first before the interests of others. This world’s way is completely antithetical to God’s way. Jesus showed us what to value. We are supposed to “in humility count others more important that ourselves, like Christ did for us when he died on the cross. When we put the interests of the weak, the vulnerable, and even our enemies before our own, we reflect God to the world. New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? Exodus - The Cost of Restitution - Jason Paredes

Our sin and mistreatment of others has created a debt both to man and God that we cannot ever repay. We can make no restitution. Because our sin was so great and our condemnation so certain, Christ had to come pay the cost of restitution so we could be set free from our debt to God and others. Exodus - The Dignity of Life - Jason Paredes

We tend to believe that it is only what we do that defines who we are. Intentions of the heart don’t matter, only the actions that we take. Every action flows out of an overflow of the heart. What we do matters, but God cares most about our heart being yielded to him so that as image bearers we can honor and protect the dignity of each image bearers life. God loves people and he gave each person the dignity of life, and he has given us his law to ensure we protect it. He loves people and the dignity of life so much that even when we failed to keep his law, he sent his son to receive the fullness of his justice for our sin. He lost the dignity of his life. He was beaten, tortured, and murdered so that we could have the dignity of our life restored to us and could be given eternal life. Exodus - The Bible and Slavery - Jason Paredes

The moment we forget the pain of our past and God’s redemption, we begin to create pain for others around us. God values humanity enough to send His Son to die in order to free them from slavery to Satan. As such, He doesn’t support any institution that enslaves men. He works in broken society to protect His prized possession, human beings. New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? Exodus - Idols and Altars - Zer Surigao

We fail to worship God rightly when we don’t know how God wants to be worshipped. God is holy, and He desires our worship to be set apart from how the world defines worship. God alone has the right to determine how He wants to be worshiped. He has shown us that He alone is worthy of worship, and in response to the sacrifice of the Son, we are to worship Him with a simple and pure sacrifice – our lives.  New to Fielder? https://www.fielder.org/connect Questions or Need Prayer? 10 Commandments - Honor God by Honoring Others - Jason Paredes

Because we don’t understand the image of God that people bear, we don’t honor them like we should. We cannot honor God unless we honor those who bear His image. Every human being is created in the image of God and therefore deserves the honor of that identity. Yet, we humans fail to reflect the perfect image of God as we mistreat others in deference for ourselves. Christ was the only perfectly obedient Son who showed honor to all, and our honor is restored through him as by faith it is imputed on us. 10 Commandments - The Sabbath - Jason Paredes

Because we don’t trust that God will provide for us, we don’t ever rest from our work long enough to let Him. We are ragged and cursed because we don’t receive the blessing of abundance God wants to give. The sabbath is a gift to God’s people that shows God’s power, God’s provision, and God’s care. We must learn to let God do what only God can do, a truth that helps us understand and live out the gospel of God’s work in our redemption. As redemption is a gift, so is rest.
