This week, we're doing a bit of a lighter one, in the sense that there are fewer brutal murders and absolutely no sexual assaults in this story. And after four parts of Dahmer, that is a super yay! John Leonard Orr is a convicted arsonist and murderer who is the epitome of the expert everyone should have been suspicious of. And that's because Orr worked as a fire investigator and eventually, he became so revered in the industry that he trained many other fire investigators. Mark Essex was an African American man who was not impressed with the racism he encoutnered in his day to day life, and eventually, he dealt with it by choosing violence. We're a few days late, but in honour of Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, we're covering a terrible battle. From the First World War, so get ready for a massacre. Because of on top of barbed wire, machine guns, trenches, artillery and massed attacks that were the norm for WW1, Passchendaele also had rain and mud. This week, we're covering a spree killer from the 1970's whose crimes have been nearly forgotten by the general public, although they are well remembered where they happened. That's in the Adirondack region of upstate New York, a very rural area covered in heavy wilderness, and this is where Robert Garrow went on the run after killing four people. After a manhunt that was the states largest at the time, Garrow was caught, but that's only half the story. In this episode, Guay and his posse build a working bomb, manage to smuggle it on to a plane, and subseuently murder Guay's wife, Rita Morel, along with another 22 people for good measure. In the late 1940's, Joseph Albert Guay was a married man with a new child who seemed poised to take advantage of the economic boom in post war Canada. But instead, Guay got himiself a teenage girlfriend and decided that he no longer wanted his wife around. Which never turns into a good story. It seems like we have a little bit a theme lately, because just after finishing the infamous Albert Fish case, we're now covering an entire family of cannibals. This is the story of Sawney Bean and his cannibal clan, and they terrorized a region of southwestern Scotland in the medieval era. By the time the family was brought to justice, it's said they had killed in the neighborhood of 1000 people. And eaten them.
