RAS #568 - An Extra Man

Well It finally happened, a podcaster's worst nightmare. Ron was struck down with laryngitis. He is nearly over it, but it did make putting a show together this week challenging. The good news is that you are getting all new content. The better news is that we are playing a story that we have wanted to run for a long time, but couldn’t because of its length. It comes from the October, 1930 issue of Astounding Stories and takes us into the world of mad science.  Featured Story - An Extra Man Our featured story is quite unique. Especially when you realize that it was first published in October of 1930 in Astounding Magazine. This one was way ahead of its time. Star Trek was known for its use of the transporter. But where did Rodenbary get the idea for it? Perhaps it came from our story today. It is titled An Extra Man and this is a fun one. RAS #567 - The Dog And His Shadow

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we are bringing back an old friend to the show. The Blue Beetle. The last time we heard from him was in , and that is far too long. BB is a superhero patrolman who got his start in the comics in 1939. What I will play is his origin story from the classic radio series of the same name. Also on the show, have three stories from you guys. A brand new one from Ray Peyton about a lighter and two chilling tales that should get your blood flowing. Featured Story - The Shadow And His Dog Our featured story is not from old time radio, or the pulp magazines, and we don’t have a guest. However, what we do have is a creepy listener story that, quite frankly, gave me chills while I recorded it. It was sent into the show by Brian Shaw from Salem, Oregon. Brian tells a story about a shadow man who stands out in front of his house watching. This is one creepy story!  Other Stories Include - Pattern Of Guilt, 2001 - A Space Odyssey - A Review, The Purple Lighter, Did that just happen, The Dog and His Shadow, and The Drug Ring Ron’s Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. RAS #566 - Robot Killer

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have a pseudo theme on the life and times of Isaac Asimov. We review an audiobook written by him called Robot Dreams. We even play a game of Johnny Is It True where you get to pick which famous Asimovian quote I faked. Add to that a story from the OTR series 2000 plus that is titled Robot Killer, well I think you get the idea. Not too worry though it is not all robots there are two ghost stories sent in by Richard and Tambra that are quite creepy.  Featured Story - Killer Robot Our featured story comes from the short lived radio series 2000 Plus. It ran on the Mutual Broadcasting System for a little over a year ending in 1952. It was the first adult science fiction series on radio, airing one month prior to the better-known Dimension X.  The tale is called Robot Killer and is one that Isacc Asimov would be proud of. It takes a good look at the pitfalls of owning a robot. It aired in Late 1950. Other Stories Include - A Bit Of Logic, Eyes Do More Than See, Kids In The Woods, A Wolf Encounter, Robot Killer, And Johnny Is It True - Isaac’s Quotes Ron’s Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. RAS #561 - Evening Primrose

Every year on Ron’s Amazing Stories we turn to the macabre and take a look at the dark side. We call this The Month Of Spooky. In this episode it is all about the doll. That cute and cuddly creature that is stuff of nightmares. Movies like Child’s Play or Annabelle have turned these figurines of joy into menaces and harbingers of evil. What we have are three doll stories sent in by you; An Elsa doll, Gramma’s favorite doll, and a jealous Clown Doll. Then we will play one of the top 31 scariest stories from the golden age of radio. It came in at number 15 and while not exactly a doll story it does explore one possible origin of the Wax Mannequin. Featured Story - Evening Primrose Our featured story comes from the OTR series Escape starring William Conrad. A penniless poet, played by Eliot Lewis, decides to move into a department store and live in ease and comfort off of its inventory. He didn’t bargain for the race of pale mutants who already live there. Or for how they dispose of anyone who rebels against them. The story is titled Evening Primrose and first aired November 5, 1947. RAS #559 - Come Into My Parlor

On Ron’s Amazing Stories we have so much good stuff that I am not even sure it is legal (speaking metaphorically of course). What we have is legal and pretty good. We have three ghost stories from you guys, two classic science fiction stories, and a brand new Our Amazing Stories that looks at some astonishing women! So let's get to this stuff by pressing that play button. Featured Story - Come Into My Parlor Our featured story this week is a strange tale that first appeared in Science Fiction Adventures Magazine in February of 1953. What we see is not always what there is to see. Sober or drunk, Johnny was seeing things. Like spider webs in the night sky. But as a newspaper reporter, Bennet had the job of keeping facts and fancies separate. He was good at that—too good! The story is titled Come Into My Parlor and was written by Charles E. Fritch. It is read for us by the Librivox veteran Dale Grothmann. Other Stories Include - Clue In The Hand, Fairy Tale by Stephen King, Midnight Shuffles, More From Nana, Haunted BK, Come Into My Parlor, Our Amazing Stories - Amazing Women, and Survivors Ron’s Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. RAS #558 - Nightfall And Other Stories

On Ron’s Amazing Stories it is all about Nightfall. I am talking about the classic SciFi story written by Isaac Asimov. We will hear the origins of the story, some thoughts about it, and the radio adaptation of it from the OTR series X-Minus One. We also have two new ghost stories from the listeners. A pool boy ghost leaves his hand prints behind and a headless woman roams Iroquois Park in Louisville, Kentucky. So press that play button and enjoy the show. Featured Story - Nightfall Our featured story comes from our featured audiobook. It is the radio adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Nightfall. It comes from the OTR series X-Minus One and truly does fire on all cylinders. But why? The answer is simple. The tale takes place on a planet where conditions are very different from those here on earth. In this one we are forced to imagine what life would be like with no night. Now on Earth there are no places like that. However, if you're at the North or South Pole you can sort of experience it. But can you imagine a world that had no night at all? Then imagine the chaos that would ensue if suddenly the lights went out and you saw the stars for the very first time. That is what happens in Nightfall. It first aired on X-Minus One in December of 1955. Other Stories Include - The Broken Window, Nightfall and Other Stories, Ghost In The Pool, The Night at Iroquois Park, and Nightfall by Isacc Azimov Ron’s Amazing Stories Is Sponsored by: Audible - You can get a free audiobook and a 30 day free trial at   and - Good Treats for your dog to eat. RAS #556 - Born To Hang

On this time we are doing the western thing. Our featured story comes from the pen of John Meston and the tales of Gunsmoke. A man is hanged, but manages to survive. The rest is…. well amazing. We will also have one of my favorite stories. It comes from an anonymous emailer and tells a ghost story right out of the pages of the old west. So, let’s stop thinking about it and press that play button to enjoy the show. Featured Story - Born To Hang Our featured story comes from probably the greatest western series of all time. Not just on the radio but the television as well. Of course, we are talking about Gunsmoke. The series was special for many reasons, but probably the biggest is that it was the first adult western to make the grade. The show appeared on both radio and television from 1952 all the way until 1975. In fact the radio version lasted until 1960 and was one of the very last shows to be canceled from radio. Only Johnny Dollar continued on through 1961. Our story today comes from the last season of the show. It is titled Born to Hang and first aired on October 9, 1960. Other Stories Include - Alibi In Red, The Texas Rangers: A Century of Frontier Defense, Stampede Mesa, and Born To Hang. RAS #550 - Delayed Action

On we are full of time, or rather we have a story about time. It is both a paradox and a mindbender. We also have a unique story from Pastor Jason and I hope you are ready to stomach it. Press that play button and find out.  Featured Story - Delayed Action Our featured story comes from the September 1953 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction. It was written by Charles V. de Vet. Replay - The Boy In The Basement

On this week we pretty much dedicate the entire show to one story, The Boy In The Basement. It was written by Sylvia Shults and is in fact her true encounter with Christopher, who just happens to be a spirit. This is a rare look at the behind the scenes of ghost hunting and even more amazing her ongoing relationship with Chris. Something that almost never happens. Also, on the show we have a brand new story from you guys, and of course all of the other stuff you have come to enjoy on the show. So press that play button and please come join us. Featured Story - The Boy In The Basement This story is featured in the book Fractured Souls: More Hauntings at the Peoria State Hospital. The book was written by our very own Sylvia Shults. The was once the finest facility in the world for the care of the mentally ill. The asylum closed its doors in 1973, but the hilltop remains active to this day. Instead of the conversations of patients and the squeak of nurses' shoes, the halls now echo with the beeps of K2 meters and the hiss of spirit boxes. It's still a busy place, and for the spirits of many of its patients, it is still home. Other Stories Include - Case of Announcer's Delight, Lincoln on the Verge: Thirteen Days to Washington, The overprotective Ghost, and The Boy In The Basement Program Note: This is a replay from September 16, 2021. I am taking the week off from podcasting and polled 100 listeners on which episode they would like to hear. With 65 votes this was the clear favorite and I have to say it is one of mine too.  About Sylvia Shults:  Sylvia  is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, Fractured Souls, 44 Years in Darkness, Hunting Demons, The Spirits of Christmas, and her latest release Days Of The Dead. RAS #548 - Target One

On we travel through time to kill the great Albert Einstein. We have a story from listener Brett about his encounter with some strange orb creatures. Also, Professor C. Cydwick Ohms tells us all about his one way time-door. (That one is read for us by Justin Daniels). Featured Story - Target One Our featured story comes from the OTR series X-minus One and is titled Target One. It first appeared in Galaxy Magazine and was written by Frederik Pohl. In the 1950’s science fiction was plagued with stories about moving through time. What do you think? Today’s story just might help you decide. It is titled Target One and it first aired on December, 26, 1957. This was a fun episode to create and I hope you enjoy it! About Sylvia Shults:  Sylvia  is a Librarian, Author, and Ghost Hunter. She has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of the weird and strange. Her non-fiction works include Ghost of the Illinois River, Fractured Spirits, Fractured Souls, 44 Years in Darkness, Hunting Demons, The Spirits of Christmas, and her latest release Book Of The Dead. All of her books are available on Amazon and you can find out more at her WordPress Home Page. Sylvia’s Links:  , , , Program notes:  This episode is a bit longer than normal. Because of this there are two versions of the show. If you listened on the radio we had to modify the broadcast to fit our time slot. What you will find here and on all other internet outlets is the full unedited show. On the show Sylvia talks about the ghost of Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance and his appearance on the 1970s TV show Fantasy Island. I am still looking for that episode, but so far have come up empty.
