Please welcome to the podcast International Artist XY. She graduated from Coventry University in the UK with a Masters in Animation. Now residing in Shanghai China, she specialises in installation art, independent illustration, graffiti, 3d modelling, sculpture and digital art. Her style has been described as Cyber Pop. Her art has been featured all over the world including - "Give Peace a Chance" is on display at Your mother Gallery in Singapore, Artavers Hong Kong large-scale outdoor art exhibition and "HOW TO DREAM" was exhibited at the British Automobile Museum. Since 2016 she has worked with brands- Levis, Nike, China's Li-Ning, Peacebird, Jaguar. The colours that she uses really capture the eye for the viewer and my personal favourite is her animation of Albert Einstein. Currently on a promotional tour in China, I was lucky enough to sit down with the very popular Serbian Cellist Jela Cello. Seeing her perform in Shanghai that night was an amazing experience. Right from a young age, Jela was the top students in Belgrade and won numerous awards, being titled the best student of her generation. She was awarded the Golden Shield and Golden Charter awards for her contributions to Cultural and Educational Community for Serbia. Her album Clash was released in 2012 and featured a composition of Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze" and as of today has had 1.5 million downloads on Youtube (which you can hear at the start of the podcast).. She formed a 60 Orchestra called "Jela Cello Power Symphony Orchestra". She has collaborated with front man of Journey Arnel Pineda recording the Christmas Dreams album. He played for the Newcastle Knights NRL team from 1994- 2002, playing 190 games. Billy won 2 Premierships in 1997 and again in 2001, scoring 2 tries in that game. Billy is the ambassador for the Mark Hughes Foundation for research into Brain Cancer. Episode 125 - On the night of Syren's Album Release Show, I sat down with Thomas- Guitarist and Steven- Drums. The band is currently on tour in China promoting their new album “Manifest.” They have played in Guangzhou, Beijing, Xi’an, and this weekend will perform at the popular Shanghai Calling festival. The 2 songs we heard on the podcast were Emile and Maria, both from the new album. The band formed in late 2020 and have released animated film clips on board the RMS White Star, and have also released acoustic versions of the songs on the EP “Marooned”. Syren is led by the powerful vocals of Aika, and the band has a lot of energy on stage. Plans for the future are to record and release a new 20-track rock opera album. Both born in Switzerland, now residing in France, Sophie De Quay have just kicked off their China tour and I was lucky enough to see perform live at the CITIC Rooftop in Shanghai. They are playing songs from they latest album Y which was released in 2021 and have the single- "Burning Bridges and Rooftop. The Ambassador of Switzerland in Beijing announced this tour on National TV in China saying they are his favourite musical artist. Sophie De Quay also performed with the Chinese Choir in France singing songs in Chinese. Sophie De Quay started in 2016 and have toured the world, performing in 14 different countries and playing over 300 shows. They will release a new album in Autumn and will continue to do festival shows in Europe. Its an absolute honour to welcome to the podcast founding member of arguably the biggest Australian rock band in the early 90's, and one of my all time favourite bands, Guitarist Dave Leslie. (The first album I ever bought was Baby Animals). Dave was born in Sydney Australia, he learnt guitar at the early age before playing in some local bands. He formed the Cold Chisel tribute band Swing Shift and gained a large following. After trying out for Rose Tattoo, he was later asked to try out for a new band with Suzi DeMarchi on vocals. Soon after they formed Baby Animals and brought out their debut self titled album. The album went x4 Platinum and went Number 1 in the ARIA Charts. The band won 3 ARIA Awards- Best Debut Single "Early Warning" , Best Debut Album, Best Break Through Band. The band toured the world with Bryan Adams, Van Halen and Robert Plant. Baby Animals broke up in 1996 and Dave then played guitar for Australian Rock Icons- Jimmy Barnes and Richard Clapton. The band reformed in 2007 to the high anticipated reunion tour. Baby Animals continue to perform live and record new albums.
