While the Guardians did not play today that does not mean we have no news. Tobias Myers was traded away, It also looks like Nolan Jones might finally be on his way up to Cleveland. Before the 2021 season, he was widely viewed as the top prospect in Cleveland and one of the top 100 prospects in baseball. He had a bad few months and dealt with injuries and everyone seemed to give up. A year later he has decimated AAA pitching and is on his way to Cleveland it appears. He will give them a potential plus power player that the organization is lacking in general across the majors and minors.

We talked a little about the draft. I have been on three podcasts in the past week to talk about the draft and the Guardians. This class has a clear top eight to me, and what stands out is the bloodlines and the complete lack of college pitching. I don’t have a college pitcher in my top 15 players which has never happened in my decade-plus of covering the draft.

We end with some thoughts about what the Guardians might do at 16, in terms of who they have drafted in recent years. In addition, every year top talent slides on draft day. Last year there were three players that had top ten grades that ended up sliding into the late teens. I explain why I think the Guardians are expecting someone to slide and also who the three most likely candidates to slide are. We also talk about some candidates if the Guardians were to decide to go under slot so they could sign high-priced talent later in the draft.
