About
It’s Spring! You’ve just spent all winter dreaming of the warmer weather, of finally getting back out on the water, wetting a line, and catching bass again! You know that now is a great time to catch bass, but where do you get started finding them? You’ve come to the right place!
Tonight on Bass Fishing for Noobs, Chris Payne from Payne Outdoors joins the Noobs show for the first time. Chris has been on the OG show and been on the Rusty Hook podcast quite a few times but tonight, makes his Noobs show debut. Chris has been kayak fishing since 2003, making him one of the OG kayak anglers! Chris is also a member of the Jackson Kayak Pro Fishing team as well and also volunteers with his local chapter of Heros on the Water!
Chris recently wrote an article that was hosted on the Jackson Kayak Fishing page (see link below) on locating spring largemouth as they move through the spawn. Chris brings those sames ideas to share with Sean and the rest of the noobs!
He starts his strategy with finding the spot on your lake or body of water where the bass will spawn. Chris goes over different features of water that make them ideal for spawn locations, like bottom composition, wind protection, and location as it relates to deep water like channels. Once you locate probable spawn locations, you look for where the bass go for the winter. Chris talks about finding deep water, then finding structure in that deep water. Now that you have the starting and ending location you just need to look for creek channels or similar structure that links those two places. Congrats! You've located the bass spring superhighway!
Chris then goes over baits to use during pre-spawn (think moving baits) and baits to use once the bass start spawning (think slow moving baits like jigs).
Along the way Sean and Chris both talk about their love for serving with Heros on the Water. Chris also goes over some juice on bait and line choices, and shows off some of his custom plastics!
Tune in for a great conversation covering a variety of different topics with tons of tips sprinkled in on this episode of Bass Fishing for Noobs here on the Paddle N Fin Podcast Network.
