Brianna Maitland: Part 2

When 17-year-old Brianna Maitland didn’t make it home after her shift as a dishwasher at The Black Lantern Inn in Montgomery, Vermont, it took nearly a week before police started an investigation. While Brianna was initially dismissed as a troubled runaway, her family knew that something much worse had happened to her. Tips began pouring in, along with the rumors that you typically find in small towns. But one rumor in particular seemed to have some weight: that Brianna was being held against her will in a nearby farmhouse. This tip led to a police raid, but while arrests were made, Brianna remained missing. Was this tip a dead end, or, could it still hold some clues even 20 years later? Brianna Maitland: Part 1

It’s one of the most perplexing missing persons cases in Vermont’s history. On March 19, 2004, 17-year-old Brianna Maitland finished her shift as a dishwasher at the Black Lantern Inn, in Montgomery, Vermont. It was already after 11 pm, and Brianna told co-workers she needed to get home to get some sleep before her shift at a different restaurant the next morning. She only made it about a mile before something horrible happened. It was several days before people in Brianna’s life realized she was missing, even though her crashed and abandoned vehicle was found the morning after she was last seen. Despite this, police initially wrote Brianna off as a troubled runaway, though her family immediately knew that something much darker was behind their daughter’s vanishing. 20 years later, despite intense investigations, hundreds of tips, and even more rumors, Brianna Maitland has yet to be found. But police believe that there are people in that sleepy Vermont town who know exactly what happened to the teenager. Trevaline Evans

On June 16, 1990, 52-year-old Trevaline Evans put a sign on the door of her antique shop saying, “be back in 2 minutes.” The Llangollen, Wales resident popped over to a nearby store and bought an apple and a banana, then disappeared. There were sightings of a woman matching her description around town at different points that afternoon and evening, including one that said she was speaking to a well-dressed man. But she never went back to re-open her store. As the investigation into Trevaline Evans’s disappearance got underway, it turned out that this unassuming mom and antique lover had some secrets. For over thirty years, police have been trying to figure out if Trevaline’s disappearance was related to what was actually happening in her personal life, or if it was because of a killer who happened to be nearby. Strange messages that have popped up in recent years indicate that there is a great deal in the Trevaline Evans case that lies just below the surface. Leah Roberts

"While I am gone, remember – everyone is together in thoughts and prayers and time passes quickly. Have faith in me, yourself, everyone." That was just part of a cryptic note that 23-year-old Leah Roberts left her roommate before she packed up and headed out on a journey of self-discovery. On March 9, 2000, Leah set off from her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, and headed west, following in the footsteps of her literary hero, Jack Keroac. The idea of a spontaneous trip fit in with Leah’s adventurous spirit, so no one was initially concerned, despite the fact that she hadn’t mentioned the trip to anyone. But as days passed without word, Leah’s family reported her missing. Five days later, her sister Kara got a shocking message: Leah’s Jeep Cherokee had been found wrecked at the bottom of a ravine in Whatcom County, Washington. All of Leah’s belongings were found at the accident scene, but Leah was nowhere to be found. We'll be back soon with season 5! ----- 99% of missing people in America are found. But then there’s the 1%. Some, however, get forgotten; their cases barely investigated before being put on a shelf to collect dust. Even though Danielle Bell was only 14 years old when she went missing in 2001, she falls into the latter category. When Danielle went missing on September 28, 2001, no one outside of family and close friends looked for her. Lawrence Bader

On May 15, 1957, 30-year-old Lawrence Bader decided to go fishing. The Akron Ohio-based salesman had been having a rough go of it in his business recently, and Lawrence needed an afternoon to relax. He rented a boat and set off on the calm waters of Lake Erie. Three hours later, a brutal storm hit. The next morning, Lawrence’s battered boat was found, but there was no Lawrence. The Coast Guard said that the lake had been so rough that no man could have survived after going overboard. Lawrence was presumed dead, with everyone assuming that his body would eventually wash ashore. But it never did. Then, nearly eight years later, a man who looked suspiciously like Lawrence Bader turned up in Chicago, throwing everything everyone thought they knew about Lawrence and what happened on Lake Erie into question. As unbelievable as it may sound, that’s exactly what happened to Fawn Mountain. Fawn was in a relationship with a woman named Heather Dibert, and she was so far under Heather’s control, that she eventually lost all ties to the outside world. On the evening of November 25, 2012, Fawn went into the trailer that she shared her partner, Heather Dibert. By the next morning, she was gone, and no one has seen her since. It wouldn’t be until April of 2015, that Fawn’s family would realize she had been gone for years, and filed a missing person’s report. Now, in 2023, a high-profile arrest has the possibility of leading to justice for Fawn Marie Mountain. Anyone with information on the disappearance of Fawn Mountain is urged to call the Pennsylvania State Police at 814-696-6100 This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5360779/advertisement

Ben McDaniel

“Go no farther. There’s nothing in this cave worth dying for.” Those were the words printed on the sign at the entrance of an underwater cave in Vortex Springs, Florida. Despite this plaintive warning and the drawing of the Grim Reaper that accompanied it, many divers of differing skill levels failed to heed these words in search of adventure. On August 18, 2010, 30-year-old Ben McDaniel was seen entering the water in his scuba gear. He was never seen on land again. What was at first assumed to be a tragic, yet straightforward diving accident came into question as days went by without Ben’s body being found. Did Ben get deeper into the cave than anyone could have imagined? Or did someone remove him from the water before searchers could find him? Some have questioned if Ben was ever in the water at all that night, or if something completely different happened on the ground. The only thing we know for sure is that after a decade, despite an extensive search, no one knows for sure what happened to Ben McDaniel. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THE DISAPPEARANCE OF BEN MCDANIEL IS URGED TO CALL THE HOLMES COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE 850-547-3681. Michael Dunahee

It’s been called the most confounding missing children's case in Canadian history. On March 24, 1991, four-year-old Michael Dunahee was with his family at a local elementary school in Victoria, British Columbia, where his mother was playing flag football. He asked if he could go play on the playground, which was right by the football field. Michael’s mother said yes, but that he had to stay right there until his father arrived. But when Michael’s father went to collect the little boy, he was gone. The game was halted and everyone immediately started looking for Michael, but found no trace of him. Over the next three decades, many theories would be bandied about, running the gamut from an abduction by a family who wanted to raise a child, to a Satanic ritual, but to this day, Michael remains missing. What happened to Michael Dunahee? ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MICHAEL DUNAHEE IS URGED TO CALL DETECTIVE DON BLAND WITH THE VICTORIA POLICE AT 250-995-7654. William Tyrrell - Part 1

A three-year-old boy dressed in his favorite Spider-Man suit was playing with his older sister at his grandmother’s house. The home, in Kendall, New South Wales, Australia was in the woods and offered plenty of space for little William Tyrell to run around. But when his mother popped into the house to make a cup of tea, the delighted shrieks stopped, replaced by an eerie silence. William was gone. What followed on the morning of September 12, 2014, would become the largest search in Australia’s history. After extensive searches, and hundreds of interviews, police had a theory of the case. However, recent developments have made everyone question what they believe they know about the case of William Tyrrell. So what really happened to the little boy in the Spider-Man suit? Erin Marie Gilbert

In basic terms, Occam’s Razor states that given two theories, the simplest answer is often correct. But in true crime, that’s not always the case– especially when it comes to unsolved mysteries. On July 1, 1995, Erin Marie Gilbert attended the Girdwood Forest Fair in Girdwood, Alaska. She was on a first date with a man named David Combs. David later claimed that he had car trouble and that while he was looking for help, Erin disappeared. Combs initially cooperated with the police investigation into Erin’s disappearance but quickly stopped talking. As more of his story came out, the less it seemed to add up. So is the simplest answer the correct one? Or, is there a possibility that David Combs, who has never been named as a suspect in Erin’s disappearance truly had nothing to do with it? ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ERIN MARIE GILBERT IS ASKED TO CALL THE ALASKA STATE TROOPER COLD CASE UNIT AT 1-907-269-5511. HER FAMILY IS OFFERING A $35,000 REWARD IN THIS CASE.
