NEWS ITEMS

Final Fantasy XVI. IGN reports that the latest installment of Square-Enix’s flagship franchise has sold over 3M copies during its first week.


Microsoft. The Verge reports that according to internal emails from the FTC v. Microsoft hearing, Microsoft was considering buying studios such as SEGA and Bungie to bolster Game Pass subs.


Nintendo. IGN reports that Nintendo plans a “smooth transition” from the Switch to its next console by continuing to use Nintendo Accounts.


Practically Complete Guide to Dragons. Soon to be released Dungeons & Dragons companion book features all sorts of lore and illustrations surrounding dragons, but is not a game book. The illustrated fantasy field guide serves as an update to the previously released Practical Guide to Dragons.


Project Loki. Polygon reports that Theorycraft Games has announced an upcoming MOBA-like game that features gameplay elements reminiscent of APEX, Fortnite, and Enter the Gungeon. Playtesters have said the game feels like “APEX meets League of Legends meets Smash Bros.”


Sony. GamesRadar reports that a redaction error in the FTC v. Microsoft court documents from Sony revealed development timelines and costs for Horizon: Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part 2. Both games each cost over $200M to develop, according to the declaration.


Super Mario. Game Informer reports that special Mario-emobssed Oreo cookies will be available for a limited time, starting July 10th.


Unearthed Arcana. Next Dungeons & Dragons playtest will be released on June 29th. Points of interest include class progression for the monk, capstones returning to level 20, and subclass progression reverting to a class by class basis.
