All Israel Will Be Saved! | Romans 11:25-32

If the very people who were supposed to recognize Jesus as the Messiah reject him, what will become of them? This week’s sermon addresses this question, with some real hope for the physical descendants of Israel for the future. Grafted by Faith into God’s Deep Love | Romans 11:11-24

God––after breaking us off from our cursed familiar tree––grafts us by faith into his tree of life and salvation. His plan has always been for his people to live by trusting in him and his promises. So has God’s Plan A failed? Absolutely not! He has the power to graft in anyone whose faith is in him. What great news! QUESTION: Do you know of God’s great love for you? Frozen Hearts | Romans 11:7-10

Where do we turn if the greatest barrier to connecting with God is inside us? Our passage this week uses sensory images to describe the shape and cause of hardened hearts. These vivid pictures lead us to ask the most important question: how do you melt a frozen heart? God Never, Never, Never Gives Up on Us! | Romans 11:1-6

Often in a mobster movie, we will hear the crime boss say to a person who has betrayed them, “You’re dead to me!” From that point on in the movie, they become , which is Latin for “a person who is unacceptable or unwelcome”. The (Old Testament?) Word About Christ | Romans 10:14-21

If anyone reads the Scripture carefully, they will find some word, some hidden treasure in the field, which is Christ.” These words are from the 2nd Century and they reflect God’s own idea that the whole Bible is about Jesus and discovering all that the cross accomplishes. This changes not only the way we read the Old Testament but the way we interpret our lives! Where is God speaking the word about Christ to you? Jesus is At the Door | Romans 10:5-13

Paul’s ”twist” to the story Deuteronomy 30:14 (TiPCFGCTTGOGRTOTV) 14But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it realize there is no possible way you can do it (Rom 1, 2). And yet, the law requires perfection (Rom 3:23). So we are in deep, deep doo-doo (Rom 3:19-20). But wait! Along comes someone who did do the law perfectly (Rom 10:4, Matthew 5:17), and is willing to switch places with us (Rom 3:21ff) through his death and resurrection (Rom 3:25), offering his righteousness (Rom 3:22) to all who simply trust him and not ourselves as Savior (Rom 3:27) and are united to him (Rom 7:1-4). So, the only real question is: Do you receive Him (Rom 5:9-13)? What is underneath the universal longing to be enough? Is He a Stumbling Stone or Salvation Stone? | Romans 9:30-33

Hannah, Samuel, and the Coming King | 1 Samuel 1-2

This week we looked at the story of Hannah. We connect with her as she deals with life’s disappointments because we too deal with disappointment. In her case, the desperate prayers of a barren woman to have a son are answered. Is that the end of the story? No. For we are cued in on a future son to be born who will be called King and Savior, who will ultimately rescue us from all of life’s disappointments QUESTIONS __ __ Born Unto Us Cor Chmieleski Hope Community Church - Downtown Minneapolis Download Message Slides https://resources.hopecc.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/20231231DT_Download_hannah-samuel-and-the-coming-king.pdf For more resources or to learn more about Hope Community Church, visit hopecc.com https://hopecc.com.

From Cain to Christ at Christmas | Genesis 4:1-16

Paul Tripp writes, “It’s easy to look around and keep score…focusing more on what others have than what God has graciously provided for you causing you to want what they have and to question the goodness of God.” We observe this in the story of Cain and, too often, in our own story. Yet, how wonderful this Christmas season to be reminded of the goodness of God for every one of us. No more keeping score. No more comparison. Present Suffering < < Future Glory | Romans 8:18-30

The Bible reads like a thrilling story with characters, settings, plot lines, problems, and solutions. One of the main themes from beginning to end is suffering giving way to glory. That is true of God’s story as he solves the problem of sin on our behalf and sets the stage for a glorious and forthcoming glory. We wait for that glory with eager expectation! Kill Your Sin | Romans 8:12-17

Many of the Old Testament stories can be summarized in three words: “Know Your Enemy.” Like us, the people in the Old Testament were often guilty of mislocating the real problem in their lives, causing things to move from bad to worse. Here in Romans 8, we’re given unequivocal clarity about who our enemy is and a charge to bring this enemy to an end! What is Unseen is Eternal | Romans 8:5-13

In the classic movie The Matrix, Neo says to Morpheus, “I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my life.” Perhaps you feel the same way. It’s easier to accept what we can see more than what we cannot. We feel better if we believe we’re in control. Yet God works in unseen and expected ways by his Spirit. Will you trust his Spirit to lead your life and see how deep the rabbit hole goes? Question to consider: Do you surrender control of your life to the Holy Spirit? The Divided Self | Romans 7:13-25

Where do you turn when life lowers you to the end of your rope? In the second half of Romans 7, we discover a pathway to communing with God that looks less like climbing and more like seeing life as it actually is, and ourselves as those who struggle and stumble. This means Jesus isn’t away and unaware of the dark and scary places of your life that feel like death (strained relationships, losing a job, receiving critical feedback, a bad diagnosis, etc.) but already there working with a power greater than we could ever engineer. Whose Are You? | Romans 6:15-23

Should we just sin all the time because we’re not under law but under grace? The second half of Romans 6 addresses this question while, in a way, trolling our Western notion of freedom. Being free isn’t only about being out from under the wrong thing, but being bound to that which is truly good. And this goodness runs on a fuel more powerful than the right answers of the law. This is why, perhaps more than anything, we need him to show us what he’s like and what he’s doing in the world. Counted Righteous Through Faith | Romans 4:1-12

Every murder mystery reveals a twist. Once known, it is enjoyable to re-watch or re-read that story with that twist in mind. The same is true for the bible. This week and next we return to the beginning of the story to see how trusting in God’s promises of salvation brings righteousness––not religious works or sacred rituals or having a certain relative…and that’s how it’s always been! QUESTION: An often-used pattern in Scripture is promise-fulfillment. God makes promises. Eventually, he fulfills them. In the time between when he makes the promise and when he fulfills the promise is our opportunity to trust him. Today, are you now trusting in Jesus Christ and the promises he has made to bring forth his eternal rescue and righteousness?
