The virgin Mary had an utterly unique calling, to carry and birth the Son of God. She would have been seen as a liar or a lunatic to claim this was God’s child. Even so, she conceived herself as blessed and called her son the Savior. But this not true only of her. We too are blessed as we see her son as our Savior. Thump. Thump. Thump. My neighbor, Dennis, would see me doing house projects and throw tools over the fence which landed in my lawn with a characteristic “Thump!” He did this because he knew what I needed before I did. Similarly, God knows what we need before we do. So it should give us great joy and peace when Jesus prays for us. Jesus metaphorically throws items into the yard of our lives because he knows what we need! The list of sexual sins is long. For every good and perfect gift that God has given, we have been quick to dishonor him and tarnish the gift of sex.
