If the U.S. military winds up in a war that does damage to its equipment, by and large, the repairs would have to be done back in the continental U.S. Not only does the round trip take a long time, many of those stateside shipyards and depots are overtaxed even in peacetime. That’s one reason DoD wants to move more of its sustainment operations overseas. It’s part of what officials are calling the Regional Sustainment Framework.
