Blog-March 8, 2024—10-11—It’s YOUR Agri Business

Lots to talk about---and I keep out of the way of politics as best I can---

This morning--- we start with Darren Hefty---Ag Phd---yes it is a Farmer’s Friday---and –what we’ll hear is that small grain seeding begins next week---and we will hear what he thinks farmers will be successful with.

His guess—soybeans may give farmers more of a chance for profit next year with the current economics. It could lead to an acre shift to more beans in our region this season.

The Big Sioux and other rivers are nearly empty. Question is what does that mean for the ground water level available for this year’s crop>

Good to get Mr. Hefty talking about grain seeding---as we hit the 2nd week of March.

Then thru the hour to Pierre---Casey Crabtree---live at 10:12—he was going to record at 8:30. Why the change—what is happening and what should we know?

Behind him Will Mortenson---the House side in Pierre---what will the two have to say about the 2024 session of the legislature-----and were they able to do something that will pass the torch in the right direction to the next generation?

A visit as well with Congressman Dusty Johnson—and a West River Sheriff on the US-Mexico Border. Having lived along that El Paso side of the River for  4 years—I can ask meaningful questions—probably won’t change the answer—but we’ll all learn something.

One of my own lawmakers from the Hartford area—talked to me thru-out the session and we visit with him today---Brent Hoffman—talks about the pipeline—passing the torch and making a difference-today-tomorrow and beyond with the next generation.

Congressman Dusty Johnson was making the circuit on Thursday—and we visited with him and a West River Sheriff---they wanted to talk about the border crisis----and having lived on the border for 4 years as a TV News Director—I had some history and we did a little chat. Dusty was making the rounds with the State of the Union Address –when he expected----and yes he did talk like a politician –but he let me ask the questions.

Mitch Rave represented the Sioux Falls Chamber during the session—we’ll talk about what they got out of the session—and issues that still need work---

Sarah Heinrich—had the Growing Harvest Network---Matt Swenson the morning commodities—and Big Board on Wall Street.

Danita Murray—SD Corn and Jerry Schmitz---SD Soybeans looked at the pipeline—the planting—the farm bill and much more. Always appreciate their insight.

We had the winners announced by SBA this morning statewide---they could show up in either the 9 or 10 shows with Jamie Wood and/or Sadie Swier.

Alla---our Ukrainian local continues to keep us informed on where we are –where those in her country are----the story lines on her family that made the trip most recently dad---before that her mom----and before that her two sisters.

We close the hour with Todd Epp---who watched the legislative session for all the media—and recently he jumped in to help us with some wrap-ups. Without wire services –and fewer newspapers in the state—what he and his team are doing is needed. We’ll get the wrap.

Our It’s YOUR Agri Business Show is a big deal---I get a national reporter—farm broadcaster award in Arizona on Monday at a National Convention. I get 5 minutes to answer---but media from around the country are requesting interviews---I’ll keep you posted-and I promise to keep representing all of you to the best of my ability.
