This is Kelly Orchard’s Apple A Day. Sixty Seconds on wisdom, success and personal growth. There is a lot of talk about the term ‘empowerment’. I cannot even count how many times I have used that term when working with clients!
Empowering others will have such a huge impact on their ability to grow. I love it when my clients feel empowered to make decisions that will change the course of their lives and grow!
Inc. magazine had a great article on tips for empowering employees, but I think it translates to more than just ‘employees’ and can also be used for teams and families.
- Foster open communication. You many have clear direction and more experience, but when you foster individuals to know that you are open to their thoughts and feelings, they will be more empowered.
- Reward self-improvement. I especially love to celebrate with my clients, friends and family when they have taken steps to grow!
- Require accountability. When I am leading a group, or coaching – I insist that my clients or groups be accountable for the ‘assignments’ they have. Checking in, understanding obstacles and leading them in overcoming them helps us all remain accountable.
These are just some of the ways that you can provide excellent leadership by empowering those you are leading!
