I was asked one day, “What qualifies you to be a personal and professional growth coach?” I was actually grateful for the question, because even though it might have been perceived as a challenge, it really wasn’t. She actually might have been thinking about how she might want to hire me, or invite me to speak at her organization or one of her upcoming events. She was vetting me. Inquiring about my credentials. She really wanted to know what qualifies me over somebody else. I had to answer her question that my degree in psychology and earning a license to be a marriage and family therapist provides me with the education and experience to really make those psycho-educational concepts work in the area of personal growth, and my 30+ years in business afford me with the background to be an effective coach for professional growth. I’ve prepared myself for these types of inquiries and its with great privilege to help other achieve their growth goals. The lesson is, use your experiences to your advantage. Don’t let a simple question of “what qualifies you’ deter you from answering confidently! You are ready. You are qualified….and if not, learn, listen, study and practice to be at that level you desire to be.
