How to Recognize God’s Voice
Galatians 5:16-17 (NLT)
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
3 Dangerous Voices:
1. Voice of the flesh
Galatians 5:17 – The sinful nature wants to do evil. – NLT
Proverbs 14:12 - You may think you are on the right road and still end up dead. CEV
2. Voice of the world
1 John 2:16 - For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. NIV
3. Voice of the devil
John 8:44 - He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. NLT
Romans 8:14 - For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. NLT
Luke 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, NIV
John 16:13 - 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. ESV
2 Ways the Holy Spirit speaks:
1. He speaks through God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. NIV
Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. NIV
2. He speaks directly to your heart.
