Michele Macfarlane is a visually impaired surfer who recently qualified to represent SA at the World Adaptive Surfing Championships in California, USA, set to take place next month.
Michele lives with retinitis pigmentosa, a group of hereditary eye diseases that affect the retina (light-sensitive part of the eye). Because the disease causes tunnel vision, peripheral vision is completely lost. We speak to her about navigating disabilities and preparations for the championships coming next month.
