The reparations committee were formed after the George Floyd riots and tasked with working out what they think the city’s Black residents are owed in compensation for some of their ancestors possibly being slaves.
They have come up with a $5 million lump sum, guaranteed $970,000 a year for 250 years, a zeroing of all their debt and a home for $1.
The fact that San Francisco never had any slaves does not appear to have deterred the 90% White board of supervisors in setting up this committee and neither have they put any thought into the distress it will cause when the city refuses to pay it.
