This weekend's SailGP event wasn't exactly smooth sailing.

A sighting of the world's smallest and rarest dolphin species on the Lyttleton Harbour course saw the first day canned on Saturday.

This inspired a displeased response from CEO Sir Russell Coutts, who slammed the 'red tape' around the event.
