About
On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Chewy from Voivod, a killer musician who has just released an awesome new EP and is here to share it with us today.

Pipeman reveals to Chewy he actually discovered Voivod 40 years ago, even before Chewy did, when Jason was in the band before he went to Metallica. They both agree they made some killer music back then too.

Pipeman explains the new music EP is so cool because they combine music, anime and manga together on one side, and on the other there’s a bunch of killer live tunes they recorded in front of two of the parents of the guys in the band, which are really special to them. The guys decided to use the songs because they hadn’t been released when others had from that gig, and they’re also classic songs which also kick ass every time they play them.

Talking about Overreaction, they say they love to play it live, even after all these years. Chewy says it’s mind blowing it has the same pull it did 40 years ago. He talks about how it’s a symbolic song and it represents being young and having nothing to lose, which resonates with audiences today.

Pipeman and Chey quickly move on to the love they have for metal and the big happy family of a community they have, telling the story of how his daughter got hooked when she went to her first festival, asking Pipeman if he’d ever heard Bring Me The Horizon.

Pipeman then moves the conversation on to Ultraman, which they actually sing in Japanese on. Chewy explains he went to Japan about 8 times and he was blown away by it, so he emersed himself in books and lessons so he picked up some of the language, which wasn’t as hard for him as a native French speaker.

Voivod Ultraman – EP
Century Media RecordsRelease: 4 November 2022

Closing in on 40 eventful years of existence, Canadian sci-fi metal innovators Voivod are pleased to announce the release of the Ultraman - EP on November 4th via Century Media Records. The Ultraman - EP features a highly original tribute to the "Ultraman" TV series theme as well as previously unreleased bonus live cuts.

Voivod’s drummer Michel "Away" Langevin commented about the EP as follows: "As a kid, I often dreamed of finding a Beta Capsule, so I could transform into Ultraman, keep the city from being destroyed by a giant fire spitting monster, and hopefully save Akiko Fuji in the process. I’m pretty sure many people had the same dream...We sure did in Voïvod, and that’s why we decided to cover the main and battle TV themes for this EP. The recordings were done during the 'Synchro Anarchy' sessions and Chewy sings the Japanese parts! For the B side, we tracked down the lost encore from the 35th anniversary show, 'Return To Morgöth - Live 2018'. Enjoy!"
