This mixtape features the second single by Hudson Palace - The Who Cover ‘I’m A Boy’ to be released this year. And the song, maybe one of the first in pop culture history to question gender roles, is captured here to psyche-folk perfection. It’s not all covers, though; three are a few originals by Against Me!, Cavetown, Phranc, and others.
From Tony, half of Hudson Palace - "I'm A Boy" was a particular fave of mine as a kid, back when I first fell in love with The Who and played the Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy compilation daily, which it closed out. (The photograph shows art of myself at around that age.) It has taken a lifetime of being involved in music, which has included writing extensively about The Who, to feel comfortable with covering Pete Townshend's songs; fortunately, forming Hudson Palace with Paula has allowed for a (semi)-acoustic approach to the loudest of rock bands, and this song have an additionally baroque element to it.
Artists - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Raincoats, Hudson Palace, Cavetown, Mhaol, Yoko Ono, Le Tigre, Föllakzoid, Antony And The Johnsons, and loads more.
