It's Barbara J. Faison your meditation ambassador.


I've been enjoying my meditation practices for over 25 years and one of the things I love about meditation is how it is all about "returning" to yourself and being in THIS moment. I am a self-professed, LLL, life long learner and LLS, life long sharer. In 2015 as I was researching where to learn more about mindfulness I came across Kay Stewart of Stillwaters Mindfulness Training and I signed up for a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program that was being hosted at a local church counseling center where she was facilitating. Kay's energy and spirit were just right and I really felt I made a great connection and learned so much from her and the program.



As an alumni of the program we are invited annually to attend a day of silence retreat on the church campus. It has been a few years since we all convened, due to COVID 19. On Saturday we had our silent retreat from 9:30 - 2 pm.



When I go on a retreat, I like to have something special with me. Saturday it was a pair of oh so comfortable socks I found at Marshalls a few years ago, the brand is FYRE. My feet were nice and warm as I honored my ability to be WITH MYSELF in the silence, in a different space. I'm used to silence at my home or where I walk.



The welcome sign was a quote by the poet, Rumi -


"Silence is an ocean. Speech is a river. When the ocean is searching for you, don't walk into the language river. Listen to the ocean and bring your talky business to an end."


I knew no one there but Kay and it didn't matter. I was there to FILL MY cup. And it was filled and I am grateful for these times where I can just BE... and not DO in silence and nature. I was refreshed, rejuvenated and recharged.



I love this other quote by Rumi,


“Why are you so afraid of silence, silence is the root of everything.

If you spiral into its void, a hundred voices will thunder


messages you long to hear.”
