About

Learn from Kate Gilman Williams, 12-year-old animal activist, founder of Kids Can Save Animals, Club 15 podcast and author of Let’s Go on Safari! Seasons Leadership Co-Founders Susan Ireland and Debbie Collard interview Kate about leadership, advocacy having no age limit and the importance of saving animals.

Show Notes: Kate opens up about what inspired her to become an activist at the age of seven and shares the story of her first safari (3:03). Next Kate talks about how she expanded her role as an activist and started podcasting (5:00). The conversation gets serious about the urgency of helping save animals now (5:42) with Kate sharing that every 8 hours a rhino is killed for its horn and every 15 minutes an elephant is killed for its tusk.

Kate shares a story about how the kids at her school helped koalas (6:29) to show how kids everywhere can have an impact. She talks about the mentors that inspire her (7:00) including Jane Goodall and Sara Maston. Kate shares her mission (8:03) to save animals and to teach advocacy. She expands on this idea (9:22) by explaining that many kids get inspired by other issues to help as well and how she hopes her advocacy can provide an example of how kids can make a difference.

Finally, the conversation turns to Kate’s most pressing challenges (10:06) to get the word out and Susan and Debbie discuss how we are not all just one thing (12:04) but that we can, like Kate, have many passions. Kate encourages all people to get involved (12:04) in stopping the use of animals for entertainment.
