NWA Tells Kendrick Lamar The Hardest Part About Being An Artist 5 goats 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐 A lot of y’all complained on a previous video I did because you said I was shaming artists and their songwriting. I don’t give a shit how you write songs. It’s your art, do what you want. But when you hit me up talking about: “How do I get more streams?” “Why isn’t my social media growing?” “How can I do my music full-time?” I’m going to give you the advice that I know works to accomplish these things. Because I’ve done it before and/or I’m doing it right now. If you don’t want to make a living from your music, don’t listen. Keep doing what you’re doing with your 57 second intros. Use those 1988 cover arts. Keep handing out CDs in parking lots. If you want to make money from your music, you gotta understand the business. Which is what I teach here. There’s a very distinct line of demarcation between artistry and business. They co-exist, but they don’t mesh well on the surface. You have to find a commonality between the two that works for you. And that allows you to be free with your art. While building a business that also fulfills your creatively and consistently lines your pockets. I don’t know about your life, but money is extremely important in mine. Without money, none of this exists. And I wouldn’t be impacting you on a daily basis. Everything we talk about here is going to come back to making you more money somehow. If you want to grow musically and financially, keep watching. If not, leave. Jay-Z Talks About New Rappers We aren’t one thing. Our women included ✊🏽 This hits spot on the problem with Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B's WAP. It’s the not artistic expression. They’re artists, do what you want. It’s not the video. If they had influence on the treatment or wrote it, they’re artists. They can do what they want. The problem is rap, specifically female rap, needs balance. Rap isn’t just one thing. Female rappers aren’t one thing. Black people aren’t one thing. We aren’t monolithic. We are diverse and our art reflects that. Rapsody is one of the dopest MCs out. She’s signed to a major. She’s gotten nominated for Grammys. She describes the woman experience better than anyone I’ve ever heard. Why doesn’t she get the same marketing dollars? Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, La Chat...they all did the sex shock raps in the 90s/00s. And it worked. Queen Latifah and MC Lyte were giving intellectual black woman an outlet and representation in the 80s. And it worked. Once the money become massive from sex rap, that’s the only way major labels will put major marketing dollars behind female rappers. Like Jay-Z said in this clip, rap is everything. And in everything, includes the black woman who works, has a husband (or not), it’s taking care of her household (or not), is evolving as a mother (or not), is balancing a career with family responsibilities and that story has been proven it sales. Adele sales. Beyonce sales. Y’all give them huge marketing dollars. Master P Talking About Money Gotta take risks No streams are guaranteed. Anywhere. Anyone who is guaranteeing you streams, is scamming you. We have this poster on our website. We have this written in our disclaimer before you purchase. I say this in a dozen videos. Yet, those that get playlist placement still complain when they don’t get streams. Why? Because they don’t understand marketing. Marketing is a risk. And all of it doesn’t work. I used to run a lot of Facebook and Instagram ads. I have ads where I spent $200 and made $8000 I have ads where I spent $600 and made $0. Do I blame Facebook or Instagram? No. Why? Because I know it’s a risk and that ad didn’t work. I adjust and come back. If your song is getting streamed, it’s either A) it sucks. B) that audience on that playlist ain’t feeling it. So go find other playlists. Stop crying because you aren’t blowing up off of one marketing investment. I’ve invested $50,000+ in my business at this point. And that number is going to keep going up.
