About C.J.: C. J. Box is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of 30 novels including the Joe Pickett series. He won the Edgar Alan Poe Award for Best Novel (Blue Heaven, 2009) as well as the Anthony Award, Prix Calibre 38 (France), the Maltese Falcon Award (Japan), the Macavity Award, the Gumshoe Award, two Barry Awards, and the 2010 Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association Award for fiction. About STORM WATCH: Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett investigates a mysterious death at a secret remote high-tech facility in this riveting new novel from #1 New York Times bestseller C.J. Box. When a prominent University of Wyoming professor goes missing, authorities are stumped. That is, until Joe Pickett makes two surprising discoveries while hunting down a wounded elk on his district as an epic spring storm descends upon him. First, he finds the professor’s vehicle parked on a remote mountainside. Then Joe finds the professor’s frozen and mutilated body. When he attempts to learn more, his investigation is obstructed by federal agents, extremists, and Governor Colter Allen. Nate Romanowski is rebuilding his falconry company—and financing this through crypto mining with the assistance of Geronimo Jones. He’s then approached by a shadowy group of local militant activists that is gaining in power and influence, and demanding that Wyoming join other western states and secede from the union—by force, if necessary. They ask Nate to throw in with them, but he’s wary. Should he trust them, or is he being set up? As a storm of peril gathers around them, Joe and Nate confront it in different ways—and maybe, for the first time, on opposite sides. Roger Stelljes discusses his 5th Tori Hunter thriller, THE SNOW GRAVES, and much more with Pamela Fagan Hutchins, on Crime & Wine. About Roger Stelljes: A proud native of Minnesota and a voracious reader of novels, Roger is also an avid sports fan, particularly of the Minnesota Golden Gopher hockey team as well as the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and the Wild. If you can't find him at a game, you might find him on one of Minnesota's lakes, golf courses, or at a local hockey rink. He became a fan of Michael Crichton, David Baldacci, W.E.B. Griffin, Robert Ludlum, James Patterson, Michael Connelly, Tami Hoag, John Sandford and Vince Flynn. All of them in one way, shape or form have influenced his writing. About THE SNOW GRAVES: The young couple lies still on the snow-covered sidewalk, their gloved hands tightly linked as though they could save each other. But flashing blue lights illuminate the quiet street, and drops of blood scatter the pure white ground… Agent Tori Hunter is heartbroken at the murders of Cam and Gracie, two college students dating for just a few months, shot dead outside his aunt’s home. With witnesses in this once-peaceful neighborhood saying they saw a black car speed away, Tori is desperately tracking it down when a nine-year-old girl is found sitting alone on a park bench, refusing to speak. No-one in this small community knows who she is… is she somehow linked to the murders? Visiting little Alisha as she huddles in her pink coat, Tori quickly realises she is deaf. As her hands move in sign language Tori makes out her message: We had to run from the lady in the black car. I want to go home. Did Alisha witness Cam and Gracie’s killer? Tori is racing to follow her directions to a lonely cabin deep in the pine forest when she gets an anonymous call from a female voice that makes her blood run cold. “Hello, Tori. To keep Alisha safe you need to do exactly as I say…” Is Tori speaking to the killer, or is putting her trust in this mysterious woman her one hope of catching the true perpetrator? As more phone calls come, it’s clear the voice knows all about a cold case from Tori’s past—and that Tori must confront this twisted mind, and her own darkest demons before more innocent lives are lost. An absolutely unputdownable read that will have you gasping at the twists and turns. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Gregg Olsen and Melinda Leigh.

Two time Edgar and Two time Tony award winner Rupert Holmes joins Dan to discuss his latest book: The McMasters Guide to Homicide: Murder Your Employer. This book is so delicious in the detailed story of three of the students at McMaster Academy. We are told upfront, that perhaps not all of these students will graduate. They are at the academy to learn to "Delete" their employer. Not just bump the employer off, but how to do it flair and finesse and not get caught. Each has assignments to work through, and a failure at an assignment might get them deleted. This book is wickedly fun and a must read. You will not want to miss what will surely top the New York Times bestseller list. And every other list as well. Or that list might just be "Deleted" too.

OutWithDan chats with 2023 Bourchercon Fan Guest of Honor Dru Ann Love.
Francesca Royster stops by for a chat on OutWithDan. Her memoir (CHOOSING FAMILY) is about her journey of Queer Motherhood and Black Resistance. Her story of growing up with a large extended family shapes and influences her as she and her lesbian partner travel the path of adoption of their daughter. Told with such love and reverence of the past as well as the present. You will love this memoir.
“Based on her family history, exploring the inherited trauma and pain wrought by white supremacy, and the power of a community coming together to fight for change, told in alternating timelines: in 1929 a Black man and his family in Birmingham encounter racially-motivated violence, and in 2019, a young Black reporter investigates the unsolved murder of her great grandfather in Birmingham almost a hundred years ago.” https://www.cherylhead.com/books
The Kandesky vampire family rose in Hungary centuries ago. They gave up violence and killing to make a killing on the world’s commodities markets and with that beginning they built SNAP, an international celebrity multimedia empire. Now cultured…and having found food substitutes for killing…they’ve cornered the world market for celebrity and gossip journalism. They haven’t fully left the past behind. Their Hungarian neighbors and rival vampire clan, the Huszars are starting to ramp up attacks, maybe looking to start a war to take over all the Kandeskys have built.
DEAD DROP (A Detective Nathan Parker Thriller Book #1) by James L’Etoile is a mash-up of fast-paced thriller, Federal and local police procedural, and southern border crime mystery. This is the first book in this new series and the first book I have read by this author. Detective Nathan Parker is called by an eccentric local named Billie about four 55-gallon drums off the side of the highway she discovered while searching for scrap. She has opened one of the drums and found a body stuffed inside. This dead drop is not the first found and all contained illegal immigrant males. The coroner discovers they have all died from fentanyl poisoning. When Parker gets to close to several cartel operations, he is carried across the border to meet the head of the cartel and faces a horrible death, but Billie has followed him. Billie is not what Parker first perceived and he soon learns to survive, he is going to have to put his life in the hands of the people he once pursued and looked down upon.
From the diabolical imagination of Edgar Award–winning novelist, playwright, and story-songwriter Rupert Holmes comes a devilish thriller with a killer concept: The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts, a luxurious, clandestine college dedicated to the fine art of murder where earnest students study how best to “delete” their most deserving victim. Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate…and where one’s mandatory graduation thesis is getting away with the perfect murder of someone whose death will make the world a much better place to live. Prepare for an education you’ll never forget. A delightful mix of witty wordplay, breathtaking twists and genuine intrigue, Murder Your Employer will gain you admission into a wholly original world, cocooned within the most entertaining book about well-intentioned would-be murderers you’ll ever read. www.rupertholmes.com
