They work to create an atmosphere of a war-zone in their permanent OCR facility in Ohio but at the same time make sure all the Heroes from Operation enduring warrior are able to run their race. Ed recently retired from law enforcement and the other race director is still active. Ed explains why they do this race and what it means to him. Julie is an adaptive athlete who has completed 50 Half Marathons and has now joined the ranks of OCR because of VA Orlando and their limited partnership with Spartan race. In 2022 Spartan and the Orlando VA brought a group of Vets out to the Central Florida Spartan race, including Julie, and held their first VA Wave. After this Julie was hooked on OCR. But with a shoe blowout at SISU PNW that ended up being the focus of the shoe. Both Mike and Megan(and your editor in chief Sir Boggs) are all pretty disappointed with Altra ending the King MT a few year back and not having something that is in our opinion comparable. Mike is down to his last pair, so is Boggs, and now Megan has rotated her last pair into the mix. We hate finding new shoes! Joe De Sena (founder of Spartan Races) started the company with the goal if getting a million people off their couches and to try something they never did before. The goal's now 100 million people and with Dave out proving that anyone, even the Common Man, can do it. With the nationals all combining over the last few years and pulling out of the PNW we are left without OCR. Spartan has dropped Portland, Tough Mudder failed to deliver Portland last year and backed out of Portland going forward, Rugged Maniac stopped doing Seattle before covid and doesn't appear to be coming back. So we have one Trifecta weekend in Monroe Wa, one Tough Mudder event in Black Diamond WA, and one Rugged Maniac in Portland. So, it's up to us all to support all the local OCRs and event companies like Core Events to help grow a local community and not rely on the nationals that all appear to be abandoning the PNW.
