Tonight I had the good fortune of welcoming East Vancouver's Connely Farr & Jay Johnson (Mississippie Live & The Dirty Dirty) to the show for a live session. Since Connely is an articling architect, we got some feedback on the new AMS Nest as well as the new proposal for the Vancouver Art Gallery. I also featured several new albums tonight: I'm particularly excited about new releases from Linda McRae and Francesca Blanchard. It's First Week at UBC, with an exuberant bass-lovin' DJ playing RIGHT outside the studio. Apparently our soundproofing is not perfect.. So sorry for any exceptional buzzing you might hear tonight! I was pleased to welcome Andy Gordon, who hails from Kangaroo Bay, NSW, Australia. We had a great chat and heard some tunes from his latest album "New Albion". Welcome to my festival-addled voice on this week's Folk Oasis. It sounds worse than it feels, and should be okay soon. It was all self-inflicted, in any case. :) While memories are still fresh, I shared musical and personal experiences from my recent visit to the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, and the VIA Rail trip home to Vancouver from Edmonton. Tonight: the annual pre-Vancouver Folk Music Festival show. Only a couple more sleeps until the 38th annual edition of VFMF takes place at Jericho Beach! Hope to see you there. Tonight's Vinyl Vault was dedicated to Joni Mitchell, still in hospital at the time of this writing, and was side 2 of her debut LP. I also had a chance to chat with Oliver Swain, multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire from Vancouver Island, about his project "Tower of Song", a tribute to Leonard Cohen. He's taking it on tour this spring, starting with a Centennial Theatre (North Van) show April 10.
