“[You’re] spending money and growing not at a sustainable pace, but at this hyper-accelerated pace in order to rapidly take up market share and drown out competitors. When you keep raising money to do that, you keep giving more and more people big chunks of your business. Then you actually become that unicorn because then the pie is big enough for everybody.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Ooshma Garg, founder and CEO of gourmet meal kit service Gobble. After experiencing the challenges of maintaining a healthy diet while running her first startup in college, Ooshma realized the importance of quick and easy home cooked meals for busy people. “We'll always meet with any business owner to talk about where they are today and what their goals are. That can lead to one of three results. One, we decide to move toward an exit planning and consulting process… The second option is we go to market, we've developed an assessment of value, and we agree that now is the time. And the third option is, it might not be the right option to sell and we're happy to spend that time and to learn.” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sat down with Mary McKinney Flaherty, a Pittsburgh-based attorney who works with business owners to maximize and monetize their life's work. “This is no small thing. It's okay to not be okay. Talk to your team about it.” Hey, everyone, it's Stephanie here! Whether you're simply family planning, or you're experiencing infertility challenges, something that I learned firsthand through my battle with infertility, is how important it is to have the knowledge and information needed to make informed decisions, and have access to the best resources. I know that going through Infertility can be extremely lonely and also full of anxiety. In retrospect, I can see how running a business definitely prepared me for my journey with infertility as I had to learn how to speak up, how to research, and I did not take no for an answer. I kept going until I found the answers that I so needed and these were skills that I've used over the past decade building businesses. So for this bonus episode of Entreprenista, I wanted to support anyone worried about or actively experiencing infertility to affirm that you are not alone in this and provide you with information that I wish I had when first deciding to build my family. I am joined by two fellow Entreprenistas, Abbe Feder and Jamie Kushner Blicher, who have both built businesses that are helping people going through infertility but in different yet miraculous ways. Hear how they have turned the pain of their own infertility journey into purpose using art and coaching. I also bring on a leading fertility expert at CCRM Miami, Dr. Potts, as he lends his expertise, to demystify the misconceptions surrounding infertility. He illuminates the factors affecting fertility health and the revolutionary solutions available today. From resources to hope, from personal experiences to medical insights, we've got it all covered. Dive in to get enlightened, feel supported, and take control of your fertility narrative. Whether you're an entrepreneur or someone seeking clarity on this journey, this episode offers a compassionate compass, pointing the way forward! We talk about: The importance of honest and open discussions while moving through this journey The mental, emotional, and physical impact the fertility journey can have Leveraging infertility struggles to drive change Taking control and implementing boundaries with loved ones The best ways to support someone through their fertility journey Abby and Jamie’s fertility affirmation cards Creating your village and finding your people What to consider when choosing a fertility clinic Proactive steps in fertility management Knowing what family building looks like for you The consultation process at CCRM, Miami Fertility preservation methods and the process of egg freezing Testing and monitoring ovarian reserve Balancing family aspirations and entrepreneurial goals Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show! “When we're younger, and we're hungry for these opportunities, there's always this tendency to feel like you have to compromise more, or that you need to let somebody else define your value or your worth.” On this episode of Entreprenista, we welcome back the talented Cheval, who was one of our very first guests on the podcast. When we initially connected with Cheval, she was selling bridal dresses as a head designer with her name being used for the collections. As a designer, she brought over 10 bridal product lines to market and dressed noteworthy female icons like Dove Cameron, Chrissy Teigen, and Carrie Underwood. Except, living this dream came with a lofty price when she signed away the right for her name to be trademarked, without first properly consulting legal counsel. After seeking to renegotiate this one-sided contract, her former employers served her with a lawsuit in federal court that forced her out of the trade she loved and prohibited her from using her own name in any business, commerce, or public social media page. Now, life has changed, business has changed, and Cheval has certainly evolved through, what she calls, her reckless optimism and turned it into a responsible optimism. In today’s episode, she shares how that original contract is still currently being enforced and interpreted in ways that she never could’ve imagined. She discusses how she began picking up the pieces to move forward and allow her lesson learned to be of value to someone else. Learn about how this experience inspired the founding of her non-profit called A Girl You Might Know, which aims to foster a community and network that provides a safe and encouraging environment for artists to create without being subjected to unfair terms. And hear how she now finds herself in the shoemaking business, her secrets to resilience, why we should all honor our mistakes, and so much more! We talked about: Resilience and reinvention Overcoming setbacks and finding comfort in community both online and in everyday life Protecting yourself through education and awareness Case law and Understanding the contracts we sign The founding process of nonprofit organizations and foundations Clarifying the mission and character-building moments Creative experimentation in product development The mechanics of warehousing Pop-ups and receiving valuable feedback Approaching business and life with an abundance mindset Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show! “Let's have standards that are high, and let's be unapologetic about them” In this episode of Entreprenista, we sit down with Amanda Bradford, the mastermind behind 'The League' dating app, as she offers a candid peek into the world of app development and building her business from the ground up.. Having navigated the challenging terrains of the tech industry, she sheds light on the obstacles female app developers often face, from gender bias to limited funding opportunities. Her bootstrap beginnings, despite raising $2 million, have led to innovative marketing strategies, leveraging local events, and Facebook ads to help build out The League’s presence in cities like San Francisco, LA, and New York. But it wasn't just about the tech. Amanda grappled with press criticisms, labeling her venture as elitist and solely catering to the "1%". Rather than rebrand, she’s leaned in, pivoting her marketing with her clever “Gold Digger" campaign, which celebrates goal-driven individuals, rather than the materialistic chase. See? Genius. This episode is jam-packed with value as it delves into the crucial aspects of app development, discussing the significance of features like face recognition, the ever-evolving role of AI, and the importance of user feedback. As the conversation unfolds, Amanda offers invaluable insights into combating negative press, scaling businesses, and the essence of entrepreneurship – resilience, problem-solving, and turning a "no" into a "yes". We talked about: Creating a curated ecosystem Using events as marketing tools The benefit of strategic collaborations The proces of selling your business Learning to dodge curveballs like a pro Transforming challenges into opportunities Dating advice for the shamelessly ambitious and goal-oriented What you should know if you plan to build an app Finding a technical co-founder Equity distribution for early employees in a start-up Having a mix of full-time employees and contractors Connect with Amanda Bradford: The League Instagram Twitter Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show! “if you want to do something big, if you want to do it in your own way and have more ownership of the business that you're driving, you have to do it for yourself” If you let Stephanie tell it, being a business owner was never something she set out to do, which is a tale as old as time for many of us Entreprenistas. But true enough, her leap into leadership brought her the one-of-a-kind opportunity of having her brand be the Iconic Britany Spears’ choice to wear on her special day. Stephanie got her start working at family-run diamond company, which she loved but a desire for growth and need for evolution, pushed her out of her comfort zone and into the entrepreneurial seat. So as a new bride in 2013, overflowing with inspiration and wanting to help others celebrate their most important life moments, she founded Stephanie Gottlieb Fine Jewelry, a Fine Jewelry Collection, and Bridal Concierge service with a mission to inspire their customers to embrace their uniqueness, creativity, and style through jewelry. In today’s episode, we talk with Stephanie about her incredible founder's journey as she celebrates her company’s 10-year anniversary. She shares how the use of Instagram helped build her business and expand her clientele, what makes the diamond business unique, her approach to building out her team, what it was like bedazzling a living legend, and so much more! “A woman steps into HER FULL POWER not when she is finally given permission to do so, but when she realizes she never needed it in the first place.” If the world is going to label you a bitch, you might as well be a bad bitch according to Lisa Carmen Wang. As a USA champion gymnast, angel & crypto investor, serial entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and executive coach, Lisa is also the Founder of the Bad Bitch Empire and the author of The Bad Bitch Business Bible, a revolutionary guide for women to break free of the Good Girl Brainwashing that keeps us muted, disempowered, and dis-regulated. It’s available everywhere this September 26th! In today’s episode, Lisa Carmen Wang talks with us about the Bad Bitch Empire’s commitment to building unapologetic worth and wealth for women, by investing in female-led businesses creating exponential impact. We discuss her gold medal mentality and the mission Lisa is on to reclaim the word bitch by redefining it as a woman who takes charge unapologetically of her body, her boundaries, and her bank account. She shares insights into commanding the money, power, and respect you deserve as a woman in business, how the incessant striving for excellence within her own journey mirrored the unaligned expectations that patriarchy often places on female success, and the exercises she used to level up out of this space to reach a lane of her own fortified abundance. Tune in, and find out how Lisa maintains this evolved relationship to money and so much more! We talked about: Discipline + committing to long-term goals Creative freedom + investing in yourself Good-girl brainwashing Commanding wealth + owning your innate power External success vs. internal worthiness Taking personal + professional inventory The importance of feedback Reframing our relationship to money Debunking investing as a woman Creating impact + provoking change The energetics of money Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show!
