Four Four Premiere: Decal - More Space [Intrinsic Rhythm]

ntrinsic Rhythm is delighted to release new music by Irish Electro great Decal (Alan O'Boyle) that was initially planned for his "Trama Industries" label in the early 2000's with 4 across the physical 12" vinyl release and 8 digitally. Decal on this release - "At the time I'd have been fairly upfront about wanting to release tracks that were faster than most and in a style that wasn't straight electro. Some of these tracks fell into a weird middle ground for me, so they got put aside. It had been 20 years since I'd heard any of them and on listening back I reckoned that time had been kind to them so I started remastering them and uploading to Soundcloud alongside some classic 12" releases from my label Trama Industries. For me, it was interesting to hear sounds and techniques emerging on some later tracks that would form the basis of my later projects like Legion Of Two and Of One. I'd kinda forgotten about that. Lucas Ogma - Alternative Governing Frameworks [Ogma Records] (Free Download)

Fuinneamh’s Lucas Ogma has shared the first two singles from his debut album ‘Native Wildflower’ on our Soundcloud, along with an exclusive interview about the project. His debut album is a homage to the natural world and its inherent impact on music, focusing on deep, lush, and textured sounds throughout 14 tracks. Luke Reddy, also known as Lucas Ogma, is one of the most influential figures in the Irish dance music industry right now. The Fuinneamh founder has dedicated his life to creating safe and unique dance spaces, and his passion for authenticity and freedom of expression pervades all aspects of his work. Lucas’ music, like his festivals and parties, exudes a profound sense of tranquillity. A sense of security and connection to both our forebears and the natural world. The Sligo-based artist’s unique approach to music-making blurs the lines between traditional Irish percussive rhythms and those of the electronic continuum, resulting in a distinct Gaelic take on the quintessential techno sound. His latest musical undertaking is his most bold and honest yet. The 14-track album provides a glimpse inside the mind of one of Ireland’s most adventurous creatives. Lucas delves further into the world of layered hypnotic techno, with each track exuding a genuine feeling of sorrow and romanticism. The project is categorised as techno. Pure techno. However, describing this as club music seems somewhat reductive. The album is slightly unconventional in terms of techno, with an acute sense of story-telling and cinematic bravado coursing through its epicentre. The relationship between the painter and the painting runs deep in this project. The prospect of releasing music that has been largely sequestered for so long seems heartbreaking. This is important to him. It’s more than surface-level bangers; it’s a record of life thus far. From the smoky basement growls of ‘Introspect’ and ‘Surveillance’ to the flickering beams of fantasy-style bliss on ‘Left Behind’, the album shifts from light to dark in a delicately poignant manner, gently bringing listeners from Panorama to Berghain at the flick of a switch. Lucas’ distinctive approach to the dub sound pays homage to pioneers Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus. Lucas takes a purist and organic approach to techno, drawing on a luxurious bed of pulsating atmospheres to lay the groundwork for fluttering delay swells on luscious chord stabs that echo through the soundscape like a gust of wind blowing through the towering oak trees on the Fuinneamh grounds. Despite the evident inspirations, there is a strong sense of solitude in this offering. Lucas was isolated in his home of Sligo while writing the album, shielded from the world of warehouses and murky dance floors. He curated a sound that mirrored his journey. This is the quintessential Fuinneamh sound: a groove that honours our roots and history Lucas ------------------------- SC: @lucasogma IG: www.instagram.com/lukereddy1/ FB: www.facebook.com/lucasogma Four Four Magazine

Local Selection 235: Emmiee B2B Fayeolo

This weeks entry to the Local Selection welcomes a live recording from two rising DJs Emmie and Faye as they have so kindly shared their set taken from their gig in Wigwam playing for Research before D.Dan back in December. The pair weave through an array of hypnotic cuts throughout the recording which make for a delightful listen. For the 235th edition of the series, we have a superb back-to-back recording featuring Kildare-born and now Dublin-based DJs Emmie and Fayeolo from their show with Research supporting Mala Junta resident and summerpup label owner D.Dan in Wigwam back in December of 2023. Both DJs began mixing when they started college just shy of 2 years ago and have harnessed their skill and dedication during this time while enjoying a range of opportunities as solo artists and as a back-to-back pairing. Showing an impeccable level of understanding of techno, Emmie and Fayeolo derive inspiration from the late 90s and early 00s era of the genre. This has resulted in playing for acclaimed parties such as Slither, Research and Hidden Love across the city in a range of venues, while both artists will enjoy their festival debuts this St. Patrick’s Day at Otherside which will be a fantastic achievement for both artists. As both Emmie and Fayeolo gain more knowledge about the foundations of underground dance music, they delve further into sub-genres of techno. Given that D.Dan possesses quite a hypnotic, groove-driven sound it is clear that the pair explored that particular soundscape while adding their own flare for good measure. This is apparent from selections which vary from melodic breaks to looped baselines as the mix captures their exploration by spinning some deep techno cuts for your listening pleasure. Local Selection 234: Charlie

The 234th Local Selection Mix is soundtracked by Dublin dance music royalty, Charlie. The veteran DJ shifts through his soul-soaked stacks, selecting a mesmerising hour of rare cuts from glittering disco to dusty jazz-touched grooves. A familiar name to many, Charlie has been slinging records since the early 90’s. It all started after his first visit to Side’s DC in 1990, Charlie knew he wanted to be a DJ and began a lifelong passion for music. It was around this time that Charlie would begin his association with Abbey Discs, the Dublin record hub and Mecca for Irish DJs. Charlie was well-known in the mid to late 1990s for his basement parties at the Ferryman on the quays and whatever other venue he could find. He then went on leave for a few years, returning in 2008 after spending some time with his family. His return to the booth included a support set for the revered Darren Emerson alongside hosting a weekly show with Phever Radio. Following this Charlie would begin to collaborate with friend Pat Hyland to form the Northside Loft Society, which held shows in Tengu. Charlie often performs in Dublin venues such as Hang Dai, Izakaya Basement, Pawnshop, and The Big Romance, to mention a few. Charlie is a proud local DJ who oozes coolness from the moment his fingertips touch the platter of the turntable. Charlie’s submission for the Local Selection exemplifies his remarkable talent for delving deep into his huge collection to unearth hidden jewels and timeless classics, resulting in a nostalgic sound that remains as fresh as ever. Charlie’s masterful hour sees him draw on various coins of influence, effortlessly blending elements of jazz, funk, soul, and disco, while also pushing the timeless sound of Dublin’s hallowed rave era in the 1990’s. This is a real DJ at work, take notes. Charlie ---------------------- SC: https://soundcloud.com/user-637308846 IG: https://www.instagram.com/charlie__m1974/ Four Four Magazine

Local Selection 233: Amy Brereton

This week’s entry to the Local Selection Mix comes from rising techno DJ Amy Brereton. The youngster provides an hour of hammering warehouse techno, layering trance-infused techno with relentless industrial cuts. Next up on the Local Selection Mix is Dublin-based Amy Brereton as she steps up for the 233rd edition of the series. Recently coming to prominence on the Irish techno scene, Amy has enjoyed a busy few months playing for Research, Reboot, Oblivion, Crush and more. Amy’s ethereal yet hardened approach to DJing sees her mix a variety of sounds, from psy-soaked galloping rhythms to dreamy industrial grooves. Although Amy’s sets remain eclectic, she always prioritizes emotive melodies and euphoric moments in her artistic vision. Amy’s contribution to the Local Selection Mix series takes a deep dive into the murky waters of industrial techno, intertwining shades of Belgian-influenced acid and trance. She combines dark, pounding rhythms with intricate soundscapes to create an intense yet immersive atmosphere. Amy leans into stabbing synth lines, distorted percussive hits, and ecstasy-laced melodies to create a soundtrack that is built for peak-time dancefloor destruction. Our next entry to the Four Four Local Selection welcomes 'i decided' for the 232nd edition of the series. Specialising in all things loopy and hypnotic techno the mix is carefully crafted from start to finish and is filled with spooky textures, dreary atmospheres and sensual selections. i decided (Cormac Farley, formerly known as Farlo) is an upcoming producer and DJ from North Dublin. He draws heavy inspiration from the sound of late 90s and early 00s techno while incorporating elements of hypnotic, loopy and dynamic atmospheric sounds akin to soundtracks from the golden age of classic sci-fi and horror films which adds an interesting angle and approach to both his mixes and productions. Following his sophomore release on Tremors Glasgow-based label Oscillator One, he has garnered support for his tracks from artists globally such as Egotot, Takaaki Itoh, Radical Softness, Franz Jäger, Alarico, and more. i decided has found themselves part of the Irish label, event and mix series HRLA which has showcased a range of fantastic music through their label releases and DJs through their events and their HRLA selects mix series. This entry to the Local Selection is an exceptional showcase of i decided's sound and musical ethos at play, as he continually builds the energy of the recording over the hour with a fine selection of loopy and hypnotic rhythms. The mix displays i decided's ability to emit tension and release throughout the recording resulting in a rich listening experience, especially for those who find themselves listening to techno regularly. i decided ---------------------- SC: @user-150081317-290969504 IG: www.instagram.com/cormacfarlo/ Four Four Magazine

Four Four Premiere: Older Brother - The Sedated Century Ft. Cameron Morse

Rising UK poet and lyricist Older Brother joins forces with multi-hyphenate artist and producer Cameron Morse for new track ‘The Sedated Century’, due 26th Jan on Society Soundtrack. Older Brother is an artist translating our daily dystopia into sonic painkillers. Winning fans from all corners from the off, his track with frequent collaborator Metrist 'Bullet Time’ (Timedance) was heralded by The Quietus as 'an excellent slow-burn mystical journey in the mould of Joy Orbison', while follow up ‘Tele Hill Climbers’ was playlisted by Apple, BBC6 and NTS On ‘The Sedated Century’ Older Brother links up with Montreal based fashion visionary, experimental musician and LUCKYME collaborator, Cameron Morse. Like a beguiling sonic Black Mirror, the track signals the dawn of society's drunken disconnection from our bodies into gaseous avatars. Older Brother delivers razor-like British melancholia with Lustwerk laid back-ness over the missing dance track from LAGEOS. The perfect cautionary tale for January gloom and resolution wake up call, ‘The Sedated Century’ arrives on Older Brother’s excellent Society Soundtrack - a label releasing moving music that critically reflects our world in danceable forms. ‘The Sedated Century’ is the final single in a trilogy following ‘Cliff’ and ‘Tele Hill Climbers’, and alongside a slated EP release with Manchester band Shell Company (FIXED ABODE), heads up what’s set to be an exciting 2024 for the rising artist. Older Brother says : “I met Cameron Morse on Soundcloud way back in 2015 around the time he was making the first Littlebabyangel record. His music has always sounded like how I’ve felt, under another alias I used to rip all his demos and do whole live improvised sets to his music. The Sedated Century is our first track, it’s about how we’re voluntarily sedating ourselves en masse. It’s a cautionary tale - about the neglect and dehumanisation of digitisation. The track is an antidote, it gets you high then puts an adrenaline shot in your chest”. Local Selection 231: 3.2KM

This week’s entry to the Local Selection Mix comes from Dublin-based industrial powerhouse, 3.2KM. With his foot firmly on the throttle throughout, the hard techno boss delivers an unrelenting hour mix that leans into dark and haunting atmospheres. Dublin-based 3.2KM has become synonymous with a new wave of Irish hard techno & industrial producers. The young DJ and producer has been immersed in warehouse-style techno since he started his producing adventure in 2022, becoming a master at creating mechanical and cinematic industrial soundscapes. In the time after, 3.2KM gained a reputation for his distinctive sound, which he consistently presented to his audience through his mixes. An aggressive, strong, and sinister road is what he intends to take his audience on. Since breaking into the scene, he has played across Europe and shared the stage with numerous influential figures who have shaped his career and personal philosophy. Industrial screeches, warped rhythms, and rough textures are on show for the Dubliner’s debut on the Local Selection Mix. 3.2KM creates dramatic tension through dark and murky atmospheres while layering high-octane rhythms, creating an aggressively immersive trip through the trenches. 3.2KM ----------- SC: https://soundcloud.com/32km_techno IG: https://www.instagram.com/3.2km___/ Four Four Magazine

Four Four Premiere: Aero - I Know You Got The Hardcore [Free Download]

Today’s premiere is a free download from Dublin-native Aero as he shares a bumping production titled ‘I Know You Got Hardcore’. This funk-driven techno track combines meddling low-end and catchy vocals, resulting in a ferociously energising listen. To put things lightly, Aero has grown into one of Ireland’s most prolific Irish artists in recent times, the youngster has carved out a career that is wrapped around the foundations of purist techno. His punishing style of techno has been haunting Irish dancefloors for over half a decade, as Aero’s deep knowledge of techno sees him weave through hard-edged and groove-laden techno cuts from various time periods. Aero has played alongside some of techno’s most formidable artists such as Stef Mendesidis & Dax J through to SHDW & Obscure Shape & Sunil Sharpe, to name a few. He has built a strong repertoire as one of the most trusted warm-up DJs in Ireland but is also equally versed in pulverising a dancefloor at peak time. Outside of the club, Aero’s productions have been seeing heavy support from arguably some of the most influential DJs of our time from Freddy K, Amelie Lens, Slam, Richie Hawtin, Marcel Fengler & many more. With some more 12 inches forthcoming and a mountain of unreleased music 2024 is expected to be a colossal year for Aero. Aero now presents his first release of 2024 with ‘I Know You Got Hardcore’, a snappy DJ tool that has been doing the rounds for the past 6-months. The highly anticipated track sees Aero gravitate towards the simple yet nuanced approach to making stripped-back, yet funk-fuelled techno. Sampling Eric B & Rakim, Aero flips the original hip-hop track into a catchy 140bpm groove that is made for DJs. Local Selection 230: Kenny Hanlon [Live at Deep Sea Dweller]

This week’s entry to the Local Selection Mix is a long-overdue contribution from Irish stalwart, Kenny Hanlon. This 90-minute live recording from Galway’s fabled Deep Sea Dweller party sees the Apartment Records boss drenching dancers in a swirl of jerking bass-heavy half-steppers and menacing up-front acid cuts. The 230th iteration of the Local Selection Mix comes from Apartment Records boss, Kenny Hanlon. A longtime fixture in Ireland’s dance music scene, the Dublin City native has made a name for himself as a renowned label boss, DJ, and promoter. When it comes to DJs and curators, Hanlon is in a league of his own as his sound has remained consistent and unadulterated, making him one of the few original purists left in the Irish capital. Hanlon is best known for his work under Apartment Records, one of Dublin’s most illustrious imprints, operating since 2011. For over ten years, the label has offered intricate releases from artists such as TR One, Chase Smith, New Jackson, Belacqua, and countless more, positioning itself as a leader in forward-facing Irish dance music. Hanlon is also involved in one of Ireland’s most unique festivals, Open Ear. Kenny has tirelessly and passionately advocated for nonconformist Irish club sounds, always leaning towards the weird and wonderful corners of the electronic spectrum. Hanlon blends the deep and cavernous tones of Detroit’s aquatic electro-sound with the screwface techno rhythms of Germany and Belgium in his live recording from Galway’s Deep Sea Dweller party. The Apartment Records boss pieces together contrasting yet functional club weapons while also weaving in and out of ambient interludes, spacey soundscapes, and nailbiting dramatic intersections. Hanlon presents a timeless mix, presented with an undeniable air of coolness. Local Selection 229: NAT TYPE B2B FOCKER [Live From Cellar]

The 229th instalment of The Local Selection Mix comes from Influence Resident’s NAT TYPE & FOCKER who provide a live recording from their set at Dublin’s Cellar. The Dubliners join forces for a full-throttle industrial techno affair that is not for the faint of heart. We feature a live recording from Influence’s new event series ‘Influence Invites’ where they aim to give local, upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talent. For the first addition of this show back in October Influence’s very own NAT TYPE & FOCKER went B2B to close out this show after their first B2B closing at Fuinneamh Festival 2023. The pair’s extensive understanding of contemporary hard techno power is shaped by the overdriven sounds of Belgium and the Netherlands’ hard dance scenes. The pair’s love for hard-as-nails techno is channelled into Influence where they’ve been bringing hard techno to the forefront of the Irish scene, bringing over the likes of AnD, Azyr, Cera Khin, Dyen, Funk Tribu, DJ Hyperdrive and more. The pair show no qualms in reaching the upper echelons of the BPM scale, as they brazenly begin their set in the 150bpm region. The two rising DJs expertly dip in and out of rave-soaked anthems, heads-down industrial stompers and glitchy hardstyle punishers. The pairing complements each other greatly, each pushing different sounds, but gelled together with sharp mixing skills.
