This week on, Can It Sandwich? I put our contestants through the paces. Lay’s Three Cheese Layers potato thingys, Calbee Giza Giza Yuzu Kaoru Shichimi potato chips, and Covered Bride Storm potato chips (essentially a deconstructed All Dressed) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Much like the Covered Bridge The Weekender potato chips, these Storm Chips are a combo of four distinct flavors - Smokin’ Sweet BBQ, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Homestyle Ketchup, and Creamy Dill. And if you’re thinking, “wait a sec, aren’t those the flavors of All Dressed?” Pretty much, yeah. But instead it all being in one flavor, its more of a grab bag where in you might get a fistful of All Dressed flavor or another combination. These were sent to me by Brtittannie who is celebrating 6 years of being together with her now fiancé Scott. Congratulation, you two! Cheers! So, I bought these chips because of the picture on the bag. But what I thought was togorashi, a Japanese five spice blend, turned out to be Yuzu Kaoru Shichimi, a Japanese seven spice blend that also uses dried Yuzu (citrus) peel. I also learned that “Giza Giza” means jagged. As in this ridged. I love to learn! Anyway, this potato chips flavor sounds interesting so let’s stop with the readin’ and get to the tastin’. These engineered (the first ingredient is dried potatoes) Three Cheese potato snacks from Lay’s look a lot, and I mean a lot, like Turtle Chips out of South Korea. I’m not saying they’re identical, but boy howdy they are close. Anyway, these are supposed to have cheddar, parmesan, and gouda cheese flavor to ‘em. Let’s see if they nailed that, shall we? Yes, we’re back with another Can It Sandwich? and this time we’re seeing if two of the chips can be redeemed. Both Pringles Rotisserie Chicken and Calbee Super Potato Sour Cream and Onion really kind of faltered in the individual round. Will they sandwich well? Who knows. One thing I do know is that the Torres Select Smoked Hot Paprika will absolutely sandwich. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Ya know, with all the paprika flavored potato chips on the market I've long wondered why there weren't any Smoked Paprika flavored chips? Well, Tores Selecta must've thought the same thing. ¡Gracias! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Yeah, I got a little exited when I saw the words SUPER POTATO written in huge text on the bag. I mean, who wouldn’t? And while the flavor of Sour Cream and Onion feels overdone, the bag also had what looked like a roasted onion. So, how could I not buy em? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Sure, Pringles doesn’t have the best track record with flavorings. At least not here in the United States. Still, rotisserie chicken seems like a flavor they should be able to nail. Should, however, is not the same will. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Chips Oman Chilli potato sticks, Megachips Yoghurt and Herbs potato chips, and, of course, LeBron James featured Ruffles Flamin’ Hot Cheddar and Sour Cream. Should make for some tasty sandwiches. Let’s find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
The big question, given that LeBron James is endorsing these chips, is will the flavor be a slam dunk? Come on, you know I had to make that joke right? Still, cheddar and sour cream is tasty combo and if they’re actually “flamin’ hot” this could be awesome. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Back in Bahrain today with Megachips Yoghurt and Herbs flavored potato chips. “what herbs?” you ask. We’re just going to have to taste them to find out since they don’t list them in the ingredients. By the way, this is another great find send in by my man Karl. Thanks Karl! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Honestly, I never thought I’d see Chips Oman again. I mean, chances of me make it to Oman are pretty slim and they aren’t sold around here (that I know of, anyway). So here comes my man Karl hooking me up with Chips Oman Chilli flavored potato sticks. I kinda dig the potato stick format (see also Hickory Sticks) so I am looking forward to these. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Very different flavored chips this week. From Kettle’s Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper potato chips (from the UK) to San Carlo Lime and Pink Peppercorn potato chips (from Italy) to U.S.-based Snacklins with their Cinnamon Churro vegan plant crisps. This promises to be one interesting “Can It Sandwich?” --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Well, well, well, if it isn’t Snacklins back again. But this time bringing the sweet instead of the savory. Ok, I’m in. I loooooove churros (probably a little too much) so these have a high bar to reach. Just sayin’. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Yes, we’re back with another San Carlo potato chip. And just like last time, this not a flavor combo I’ve seen anywhere else - Lime and Pink Peppercorn? Alrighty then. Once again, I gotta shout out my man Karl for sending these in! Ok, let’s get to it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Back to basics as the famed Fad Gadget once said. Of course, the wasn’t talking about potato chips let alone Kettle’s Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper potato chips. Still, I’m going to stand by the reference. Once again, we have my man Karl to thank for the crisps. Thanks Karl! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Yes, all 3 of our chips this week had a cheese flavor about them but each was unique. Megachips Cheese & Onion potato chips, Siete Queso flavored potato chips, and Lay’s of Saudi Arabia French Cheese potato chips. All were pretty tasty but can all of them sandwich? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Yes, we’re rounding out Cheese Week here on In The Chips with Barry with some more Siete action, this time their queso flavored potato chips that are…dairy free? Yep. Not an impossible task to pull off but by no means an easy one. I love queso so if these stand up, they’ll really stand up. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Cheese Week here on In The Chips with Barry continues! Well, this is awkward. These potato chips from Lay’s of Saudi Arabia (sent in by Karl, thank you!) say French Cheese but clearly shows Swiss cheese in the visuals 🤔 Not sure what to make of that. Guess we’ll just have to taste and find out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
It’s Cheese Week here on In The Chips with Barry and to kick things off, Megachips from the Kingdom of Bahrain is back! This time they’re bringing the cheese and onion flavor. A classic combo throughout the world that for some insane reason is not a staple here in the United States. Go figure. Big ups to Karl for sending these to me. Much appreciate it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Very interesting variety of flavors this week. Vegan Rob’s Turmeric and Black Pepper crisps, San Carlo Chili and Mint potato chips, and Rap Snacks Cardi B. Cheddar Bar-B-Q potato chips. Should be an interesting sandwich session! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Rap Snacks is back and this time it’s Cardi B bringing the Cheddar Bar-B-Q flavor. You might recall, I loved Rap Snacks Notorious B.I.G. Honey Jalapeño flavor so my hopes for this are high. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Well, this is interesting. I don’t know that I’ve ever had the combo of chili and mint. But hey, I’m willing to give it a go. These were sent in by Karl, thank you Karl! Let’s give em a go. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Yes, we’re back with some Vegan Rob Pringle’s knock off action. This time with the unusual (at least for chips in the United States) combo of turmeric and black pepper. The last flavor I tried was tasty but didn’t quite nail the underlying Pringles flavor. Let’s see if these get closer to it. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
All three of the flavors this week, Backyard Cheeseburger potato chips from Kroger, Megachips Paprika potato chips, and Old Dutch Dill Pickle potato chips were super tasty. I have a feeling we’re gonna see a triple 5 sandwich score here. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
I loves me some dill pickle anything. So, yeah, I am looking forward to checking out these Old Dutch Dill Pickle potato chips that were sent in by Jasmine (thank you!) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
This is definitely a first on In The Chips with Barry, potato chips from the Kingdom of Bahrain! Paprika flavored potato chips sent in by my man Karl (thank you!). I dig the idea of paprika potato chips. This should be a slam-dunk. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Finally, the great taste of cheeseburger and the great taste of backyard - on a potato chip! I love the concept behind this potato chip flavor but boy howdy, a cheeseburger has a lot of different flavors going. I mean, grilled meat, mustard, ketchup, pickles, and cheese at a minimum. So far, Kroger has really done an excellent job with their flavored potato chips so my hopes are high. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
It’s that time of the week, time to see if the chips I reviewed during the week can cut it in sandwich form. Today we’ll be putting the Chicken Tikka Masala potato chips from Krogers, the Teriyaki vegan plant crisps from Snacklins, and the Doner Kebab flavored Pringles to the test. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
Alrighty, time for another flavored Pringles. And because they aren’t from the United States, we should be in good shape. The ingredients list is impressive and if they even come close to nailing the flavor to a doner kebab, these may well be one epic Pringles flavor. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inthechips/support
