Today is Thursday and the disciples are making preparation for Passover. Jesus has prepared everything for them. Jesus also institutes the Lord's Supper at this dinner, a sacrament that He encourages them to partake of often in remembrance of Him, a sacrament which we as the Church continue to celebrate until He returns on that Glorious Day.

Over the next few days, we are going to trace the final week of Jesus' life and ministry on earth, commonly referred to as Passion Week. The cup of suffering in our title refers to the punishment that Jesus is about to undertake on the cross in our place. So that we might live. Today is Monday and Jesus is cleansing the temple of the corruption taking place in it.

We have all been infected with the disease of sin. Left untreated, sin leads to death. There is no worldly cure, no works of man that can eliminate the plague of sin. The only solution to the inevitable penalty of sin is Christ. He suffered and died to pay the debt for all our sin, and then rose to life defeating death once an for all! Because of his sacrifice, the free gift of eternal life is now available to all who choose to turn from sin, repent of it and follow him in faith. This is the power of the cross!
James reminded us in Chapter 2, and throughout this letter, that true faith involves action: we are to 'put feet to our faith'. James concludes his letter with an exhortation to fellow Christ-followers to go after those who have wandered from the truth. Believers are to look out for each other and encourage one another to remain steadfast in their commitment to Christ and obedience to God. If we see someone getting tangled up in sin, we ought to consider ways to love and lead that person to repent and seek God’s forgiveness. The true believer will then be restored and reconciled to Christ who forgives a multitude of sins.

What role does prayer play in your life? Is it a priority? Prayer is the key that unlocks the power of God to accomplish in us what we cannot on our own. Yet many of us fail to pray, communicating to God that we don't need his help, thus forfeiting access to his power. Jesus' prayer life modelled for us the essentiality of this discipline in the Christian life. Abide in him in prayer, then watch and see God's power unleashed!

The bible warns us that the Christian walk is never going to be easy and trials are a guarantee. When we encounter the storms of life, James cautions us to be prepared by seeking the wisdom from above that will give us the ability to persevere and weather the storm, knowing that God uses the difficulties in life to sanctify us, produce character within us and increase our faith and steadfastness. The challenges will undoubtedly come, bringing suffering and pain. But take heart: God's word provides the wisdom and encouragement to endure suffering with the faith that the Lord uses all things for our good and his glory.

Wealth is not sinful in and of itself. God blessed many of his faithful servants (consider Solomon) with a gift of wealth. But with this comes the added responsibility to steward wisely & generously. We can use wealth for kingdom purposes or for selfish purposes. The desire for money and possessions can soon turn into worship and idolatry, resulting in sin and a separation from God, In today's message, we examine the wisdom and warning concerning the love of wealth in chapter five of James' letter.

What comes to mind when you hear the word "blessing"? God's definition of blessing and how he delivers it to his people is quite likely very different from what you may expect. We all desire to be blessed, but the path to receiving the Lord's blessing is not always pleasureable - and sin is its greatest obstacle. But God uses the consequence of sin, the trials and the storms in our lives to bring us to our knees in brokenness and repentance. That's when we seek him with genuine, surrendered hearts and that's what He loves. As we draw near to him, we find mercy, grace and his presence and therein is the blessing - God himself.

How does being dead to the law change your life? For Saul, he received a new name, a new mission, and a new hope. Paul's life looks drastically different as he transitioned from his role as a Roman soldier and then dedicated his life to sharing the gospel with others. Each of our lives in Christ will have similarities as we live in the love and hope of God. Come along as we explore how Jesus' work on the cross changes our lives.
As believers we are called to stand out from the world - be salt and light, reflecting Jesus to the world rather than fitting in and bending to culture. James’ wisdom in this chapter calls us to recognize and acknowledge our worldliness, and repent. In this message we learn how God's word instructs us how Christians can arm themselves to battle worldliness.

Charles Spurgeon said, "God will not allow His children to sin successfully." In today's climactic and heartbreaking study, God confronts David with his terrible sin by sending Nathan to tell him a parable about a man and his lamb. Instantly, David's heart is restored, his wound lanced and he starts to heal, once again a man after God's own heart. What terrible sin do you have on your heart? Repent and be cleansed!

Spiritual heart failure is an insidious downward spiral that begins innocently enough. In today’s study, we learn that even David, a man after God’s own heart, succumbed to weakness because of his earthly desires of the flesh. He commits adultery and murder, and his life is torn apart as he disobeys the Lord he loves so much. It takes contrition and repentance to truly heal the heart, but when we give our lives—and our hearts—to God, He lovingly cleanses us of all our sins.

When we are saved, we assume that our worship of the Lord is pure and blameless. But in our continuing study of the life of David, we learn today that even he, a man after God’s own heart, could be presumptuous and careless in his worship. Beware of the warning signs that you may be living a double life in the sight of God! We need a pure heart and clean hands to approach the throne.
