Those covenanted with Elohim refer to Friday every week as Preparation Day. Preparing for Shabbat is the goal. The washing of clothes, cleaning the house, cleansing the body, and preparing enough food for eating after sundown on Friday till sunset on Shabbat. Also, preparing the mind and heart for one thing – to spend time, this set-apart time, with our Creator, our Father. Expanding on this concept, Elder William Jackson, Rabbi Berkson’s executive assistant, urges us to be mindful of the return of Messiah Yeshua in the same way and prepare ourselves for this day to which we are all looking forward. • Let’s learn to be Shabbat-centric • Exodus 12:31-39 – Preparation Day defined • Exodus 16:1-28 – Grumbling and playing with stinky stuff • What about preparing internally? • Why do we need to be prepared? • Matthew 25:1-5 – They all slumbered and slept • Matthew 25:6-13 – The Bridegroom came and the door was shut • Matthew 24:14-15 – Why did Yeshua tell the parable of the virgins? • Matthew 24:42-46 – Messiah Yeshua is coming like a thief in the night • This journey should be enjoyable • Some things need to be replaced Take advantage of new teachings every week. Leviticus 19:2 reads that Yahweh told Moses to tell the children of Israel, to “be set-apart for I, Yahweh your Elohim, am set-apart.” Yahweh considers His people, His chosen people, to be something of amazing beauty, great value and rareness. His desire is to show the whole world this set-apart nation–the ones whom He has redeemed and made as a shining city on a hill. Doing a deep-dive into the letter to the Ephesians, Rabbi Berkson unpacks verse by verse this Pauline epistle so that we can try to understand why Paul was continuously bringing the concept of being set-apart into his letter. As he continues on the topic of the armor of Elohim, Rabbi Steve Berkson focuses our attention on the concept of the Shield of Belief. • Review • Ephesians 6:16 – What are the “burning arrows of the wicked one”? • Luke 8:22-25 – Where is your shield? • Why is Yahweh not paying attention to what I’m going through? • Baptism of Fire • 1 Peter 1:3-5 – Protected by the power of Elohim through belief • 1 Peter 1:6 – How do you benefit by trials? • 1 Peter 1:7 – The proving of your belief • James 1:1-4 – I can become perfect and complete? • Your teacher may be part of your trials? • James 1:5-7 – Wisdom through belief • What is “double-minded’? A Jewish rebellion, called the Maccabean Revolt, c. 167-160 B.C., resulted in an overthrow of the Greek invasion and oppression of the Jewish people as well as Hellenistic compromises of Jewish worship. Jerusalem was recaptured and it was then time to rededicate the Temple in 164 B.C. From this is where the festival of Chanukah (Hanukkah, etc.) comes into being. Focusing on the foundation of the festival, Rabbi Steve Berkson brings illumination to what it means to ‘dedicate’ ourselves since our bodies are referred to as the Temple of Elohim. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) • What is Chanukah and how does it relate to you? • The definition of ‘devotion’ • Areas of dedication • What’s your level of dedication? • What does dedication look like? • The Shema and the Vahavta • Without Him • Very little in life should surprise you • You can do this • Ephesians 4:1-4 – Walk worthy of your calling • 2 Peter 1:1-8 – 8 spiritual attributes and the candles of the Chanukiah • 2 Corinthians 13:5 – Examine and prove yourself Don't miss out on new teachings every week.
