I’ve known Stéphanie Duchemin https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephanie-duchemin/ for seven years now, ever since she gave me my first shot as a consultant. So getting her on the show to talk about the employee experience has been a long time coming! Stéphanie is head of human capital at The House of Marketing https://www.thehouseofmarketing.be/thomers/stephanie-duchemin, a fast-growing agency with a team of 90 people. As the group’s been evolving, she’s helped across different entities, including recruitment and talent development planning – all in all, making sure they have the right people and that they’re happy and perform at a high standard. “Thats actually what makes me satisfied in my job,” says Stéphanie. "I realised that [cultivating an excellent employee experience] has an impact on people, on their development and therefore on the company as well. So it’s really a win-win.” But why else is focusing on company culture so good for business? Stéphanie adds: “I often hear, ‘Oh yeah. But if youre an employee-centric company, then maybe youre not a customer-centric company”. And my brain kind of bends. Why should it be one and not the other? In most cases, if you have employees who are happy and can thrive in their job, there’s a 99% chance that your clients will also be happy." Its really about all of these little steps, all of these little decisions that you make that build up to a company culture, Stéphanie says. “And therefore, I think its very important to be mindful of what message you send when you decide on something; how you communicate.” Convinced? Mélanie Boucarut https://www.linkedin.com/in/melanieboucarut/?originalSubdomain=sechanged her life through coaching. It helped her to fix her relationship with her estranged mother, lose 22 kilos, save a bunch of money, find a loving partner and improve her mental health. And all this took just 2.5 years. That’s how long Mélanie has been a life coach for, but she’s also coached and mentored informally as part of her job or on the side for two decades. And it’s what she loves to do. “Dont tell this to my clients, but I would pay for the privilege to coach!” Mélanie told me. “The moment when people suddenly realise what has been blocking them, limiting them and when they manage to get over it – I love to be part of that. “Its a little bit like being a midwife, you know. Ive never delivered a baby, but I imagine its a little bit the same when you finally get the head out and the baby starts crying and you have this new life and its beautiful.” I specifically wanted to speak with Mélanie for my podcast about all this because I knew that we could go dig deep into the topic – without any bullshit – and discover how coaching can help us step out of our own way. An award-winning business coach, international best-selling author and mother of two, Susanne specialises in helping entrepreneurs, team leaders and business owners redefine what success means to them so they can nail their work-life balance. Everything she teaches clients stems from her own experiences and how they shaped her beliefs that we dont need to work as hard as society suggests we should. “I went out into the big wide world and wasnt quite prepared,” says Susanne. “I truly believed that work had to be hard and horrible. But as I discovered over the years, this doesnt have to be the case.” Susanne was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder when she was just 17. In her book, she writes about the impact that had and also how she used it as a stepping stone to a better life.
