Canadian Punks THE BLOODY HELL Punch Out New Album "Nobody Cares" Formed in 2017, The Bloody Hell has gotten dirtier and more polished at the same time, with the band infecting fans with their pop-cultural hooks and concepts, while the guitars keep getting louder and the vocals becoming uglier. The Bloody Hell is pretty much what would happen if George Thorogood sang for the Misfits, but all the songs were written by Tom Petty. During the 80s, the heavy metal band unleashed their EP “Deathwish”, which catapulted them as one of the most sought-after pit makers with the record’s title track becoming a classic within the Australian metal scene. Three years later in 1988, Nothing Sacred unleashed the full-length entitled “Let Us Prey” on Cleopatra Records. Unfortunately a year after that LP’s release, the band disbanded in 1989. Lead guitarist Mark Woolley, bassist Karl Lean, and drummer Sham went on to contribute to Hobbs’ Angel of Death‘s early work in the late 1980s. Woolley also appeared on Hobbs’ first self-titled album in 1988. Vocalist Mick Burnham later joined the short-lived Melbourne band Seizure in 1993. Although their tenure was short-lived, Nothing Sacred still remains an underground metal phenomenon in Australia. Songs from the Deathwish EP still get airplay on several Australian metal radio programs. In 2012, Nothing Sacred performed a series of 30th anniversary shows with Ross Percy (Ion Drive, Little House Godz) joining George Larin on guitar that included a support slot for the ex-Iron Maiden vocalist's Paul Di’AnnoP/Blaze Bayley Australian tour. Despite the success, the band agreed not to continue and returned to retirement. In 2015, the band decided to re-activate with a lineup of Sham, Karl Lean, George Larin, Ross Percy, and new vocalist Chris Stark. A slot on Melbourne’s Brewtality Metal Festival received positive reviews before the band embarked on a short tour of Japan (That footage was released in 2021 as a part of a 3 disc boxset), which inspired them to continue and lead the band to headline day one of the Steel Assassins Festival in Sydney. Line-up changes again slowed the band, James Davies was recruited for vocals along with Stu Bedford on guitar. From there, the band spent most of 2019 and 2020 writing and recording, what was their first full-length in over 30 years. Entitled “No Gods”, the record witnessed Nothing Sacred‘s resurrection to the metal world. The album peaked on the Australian iTunes metal charts in October 2021 at #4 along with metal media outlets giving multiple praising reviews. As a young adult, Julia took a brief step back from her musical endeavors to help build a business and life with her fiance. Navigating the world as an entrepreneur brought many rewarding opportunities for growth and unforgettable experiences, but she was left feeling a void in her creative nature. PipemanRadio Interviews Crazy Tomes Crazy Tomes: A Truly Crazy Story in Music Crazy Tomes: “Crazy on the Island” Album Release Genre-shattering and boundary-breaking artist Crazy Tomes has revolutionized the Rock and Blues scene in a very unexpected way since his start in music. Crazy Tomes just released his first album since 2015 on January 6th, 2023 and it promises to blow audiences away as Tomes has been known to do since the beginning. The album, “Crazy on the Island” will include the track “King of Pot” featuring 1960's music icons The Chambers Brothers and legendary Soul singer and producer Jerry "Swamp Dogg" Williams, who also co-produced the track. "King of Pot" also has some of the last recorded guitar work by Blues legend and Jimi Hendrix's mentor, the late Guitar Shorty. This track has been a work in progress for Tomes for many years, as he wrote it about a friend who was a Vietnam veteran who was discharged for smoking pot. From there, he decided to switch his focus to the guitar and soon picked up jazz when he moved to Virginia in 1998. His unexpected journey continued when legendary American musician - and Tomes’s idol - Little Richard invited Tomes on stage to perform a song with him, where he was given his iconic name. This event validated Tomes’s path in jazz guitar, and thus he went on to study it at The College of William and Mary. Tomes’s career exploded from there, headlining the “Kenya Feel the Rock '' festival with Blues-Rock band Burning Wagon, as well as performing at the Bruce Hornsby festival before moving to Los Angeles. There, he joined the Pop-Rock band “Arrest My Sister” and performed at Carnegie Hall, and shortly after joined the band Gundriver - and soon after was hired as a bass player (and later guitar) for another Blues icon, Guitar Shorty. His story doesn’t stop there - Tomes soon began playing guitar for Willie Chambers, and eventually for The Chambers Brothers, and now is lead guitar for R&B and Soul artist Swampp Dog, performing with him every New Year’s Eve at the Roxy Theater since 2017, as well as at the Ryman Auditorium with Bon Iver. PipemanRadio interviews Field Cate of Fencer about their new album. Field was a child actor, and is best known for his role of Young Ned in Pushing Daisies. He was also the voice of Buddha in the Air Bud films. Field takes mental health advocacy seriously, as he is a Positive Presence Coach. Pipeman talks to him about mental health and coaching. They talk about the importance of mental health awareness, therapy, and how it all intertwines in Fencer’s music and the writing process. Pipeman talks about how it's great that not only is Field a coach, but literally has real credentials to help people through Positive Presence coaching and his music. Discussing the new music, they talk about how the pandemic helped in the making of music. Field has synesthesia, in which he can see music in colors, and actively uses that when writing. The Pipeman interviews Kelly Deco. The Pipeman talks about the music he grew up with and how it started by listening to his older brother’s music and how it lead to today. They think back about their times at the Sunset strip back in the 80’s. Kelly talks about how he has kept the old Rock vibes from the 70’s which he now calls the Victorian Futurism. On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to The Offering who have some awesome new music with a really great message they want to share with us on the show today. Pipeman starts by talking about how he has been saying for a long time that the hippies have turned into the boomers. The guys talk about the origins of the songs and dealing with their parents who are boomers themselves. They also discuss what happened to the punks and when did they turn pro government? Pipeman tells a story of how his ex was struggling to take a video on her phone and his reply was you’re such a boomer. Pipeman goes on to talk about his kids who are so different, with two of them born in the 80’s and two of them born in the 90’s. He says the two sets of kids are so different, with the older ones being like Pipeman, but the younger ones not being able to relate to them at all. He also discusses how he realized the difference between millennials and Gen X in a work place environment and how Gen X is motivated by making a difference rather than making a buck. A little later on, Pipeman brings it back to the guys music and how this new album is an evolution of their music. He compares it to Hatfield of Metallica and how he hated his voice when he listened back to their earlier stuff, but he respects bands being able to evolve when often times the fans don’t want them to. The guys talk about how much your physical body changes affect your music and how fans often times fault a band for changing their sound. They also touch on the snobbishness of the metal industry and how much metal is going to lose when Ozzy passes away due to the torch not being passed on. Pipeman touches on how one of the band members fathers passed away recently, but fortunately, managed to hear the album before he passed. He talks about how his father loved the music and said it was the best music of 2022. He touches on how lively his father was talking about it and it made it really special for him. The Pipeman interviews Weapons of Anew about going through Hurricane Nicole and how he’s trying to get used to Florida’s weather. They also talk about how they found their sound and how they have grown as a band. Weapons Of Anew: Art of War Hard Rock outfit Weapons of Anew released their new song “Break The Ties” to all major platforms. It will be the first song released with new members, singer Richie Hume and drummer Lun’iah Fontana. The new song is the first to be released from the forthcoming 2023 release, The Art of War. This was the first song written for The Art of War. It came about as guitarist Freddy Ordine and Logan Mader (Machine Head, Once Human) hit it off while on tour together. WOA were auditioning producers and Freddy, a huge fan of early Machine Head material, invited Logan to spend time at their studio. "I couldn't be happier with how this song came together and turned out,” exclaims Ordine. "It had our New York attitude and Logan's west coast vibe. We really nailed the direction I wanted to take Weapons in!! Logan was just amazing to work with!!!!” “Break The Ties” is about cutting away the bad and being in a more together space with everything. "It's crazy to me that a year after this song was written, [bassist] Reno and I moved to Florida and rebuilt Weapons,” adds Ordine. "I guess subconsciousness is a mother f*cker!!! Had we only known or listened sooner!!!" This Tampa-based hard rock outfit, originally from New Jersey, released their debut, The Collision of Love and Hate, in 2017 and toured heavily to support it, including opening for Scott Stapp, Alterbridge and Tesla. WOA recorded a second album for release in 2020, with the first song released, being a cover of The Chainsmokers “Sick Boy” dropping in September 2020, reaching #25 on Billboard Active Rock, #18 Billboard Indicator and #27 Mediabase Active Rock. It currently has 1.2 million streams. The release was delayed due to COVID and in mid-2021 WOA made their personnel changes and re-recorded the songs for The Art of War. The Pipeman interviews Eddie Troy who sings and plays guitar in Voodu. They discuss about what inspires them to make great music. Pipeman talks about their album artwork which was also done by Eddie. He talks about how he was inspired to make it with the help of AI. They also talk about how Merch affects the band’s bottom line more than record sales. Voodu is an American modern metal band from Los Angeles, USA. They got started during the pandemic, and now, with their debut album in the works, they are excited to introduce themselves to fans. The first look at who Voodu is comes through the groove-oriented single “Pictures”. It starts on a thick bassline and builds up from there before exploding into the song’s main riff. It dynamically bounces between quieter verses and explosively loud choruses. No part of the song is identical to another. Every verse, chorus, and the bridge is different in one way or another. The band shares their thoughts on the release: “Pictures came from a place of confusion and despair. In its composition, the sense of spiraling into disarray and apathy before being consumed with anger and angst came naturally in its progression. We joke that it’s as “prog” as we get, between the verse starting on the 2 of a 4 count and chorus starting on the 4, the meter change from 4/4 to 7/4 in the bridge, and the key change at the end. While the song is far from “prog”, in many ways those elements fit in the song’s composition in a way we didn’t realize made total sense. They catch you off guard the same way the lyrics allude to being confused between what’s real and what’s made up. It is both a cry for help and an apathetic plea of defeat. The push and pull between “help me” and “leave me alone”. It’s begging to be numb or ambivalent to the pain caused by the confusion and doubt of one’s own self or the world around them.”- Eddie Troy The forthcoming yet-to-be-titled album is a high-energy group of songs that are meant to walk fans through a vast range of emotions. Even the slightly slower or more emotional songs still have heavily distorted guitars and melodically aggressive vocals. It covers a wide range of subjects from feelings of self-doubt, toxic relationships, people who abuse power, the duality of human nature, and addiction. Voodu hopes that their first offering will resonate with people on a visceral level, in a way they haven’t heard before. Chock full of a wide assortment of influences, Voodu makes music that will appeal to a wide audience. One of the bands they cite is Linkin Park, who introduced them to this kind of music. It’s the comparison they get most often, due to similarities in voice and the electronic element. Thus far, they have made fans out of the most dedicated of metalheads, as well as the “I don’t usually listen to heavy music” people and everyone in between. They are especially recommended for fans of Rammstein, Linkin Park, and Alice In Chains. Eddie discussed creating the artwork. He wanted to create something that was unique for our genre, represented the band in a way that stood out, and reflected the single in a way that subconsciously related to the lyrics. The single is about doubting reality. When he wrote the lyrics, he was reflecting on something that happened to me a long time ago as a kid, but after he had already written the lyrics, in second passing, I realized how much it related to the world we live in today. The age of information. In this age of information, we all get placed in little echo chambers. We’re fed things that will provoke a reaction in us and keep us engaged, but that doesn’t necessarily make them true. We’re fed an endless loop of images, or “pictures on replay”. I wanted the image to reflect this haunting sense of doubt. A digital demon that is fixed on “fattening you up” before it consumes us. On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Brad from Alienator a sludge/noise rock band from Thunder Bay, Canada who have some amazing new music which touches on just about every subject over the last couple years. Pipeman says looking at all their songs, he can’t see anything that has been left out of the discography that the world needs therapy for. Brad says music is therapy and looking at his songs are like looking at his therapy sessions, but it’s therapy for the listeners too who are dealing with similar problems. Pipeman talks about how one of the positives you can pick out of the pandemic is that the level of music we have seen since we have come out of lockdown is incredible. Brad says it allowed him to connect with his family, focus on what is important and work on his mental health. Pipeman asks about the different types of songs which are on the album and Brad says it was conscious decision when they started the band that they didn’t want to be a band with one style. They didn’t want to feel limited in what they were writing so they write however they feel. Brad explains the album deals with a lot of dark themes and reflects what has been going on in the world at the moment, like the erosion of truth in the public discourse. The don’t want to be seen as a message band, but they do want to write about something so this is how that manifests itself. On this episode of the Adventures of Pipeman, Pipeman speaks to Chewy from Voivod, a killer musician who has just released an awesome new EP and is here to share it with us today. Pipeman reveals to Chewy he actually discovered Voivod 40 years ago, even before Chewy did, when Jason was in the band before he went to Metallica. They both agree they made some killer music back then too. Pipeman explains the new music EP is so cool because they combine music, anime and manga together on one side, and on the other there’s a bunch of killer live tunes they recorded in front of two of the parents of the guys in the band, which are really special to them. The guys decided to use the songs because they hadn’t been released when others had from that gig, and they’re also classic songs which also kick ass every time they play them. Talking about Overreaction, they say they love to play it live, even after all these years. Chewy says it’s mind blowing it has the same pull it did 40 years ago. He talks about how it’s a symbolic song and it represents being young and having nothing to lose, which resonates with audiences today. Pipeman and Chey quickly move on to the love they have for metal and the big happy family of a community they have, telling the story of how his daughter got hooked when she went to her first festival, asking Pipeman if he’d ever heard Bring Me The Horizon. Pipeman then moves the conversation on to Ultraman, which they actually sing in Japanese on. Chewy explains he went to Japan about 8 times and he was blown away by it, so he emersed himself in books and lessons so he picked up some of the language, which wasn’t as hard for him as a native French speaker.
