Harry has his first of several detentions with Deloris Umbridge and her “enhanced” punishment techniques. Dumbledore is still keeping his distance from Harry, and Hagrid is nowhere to be seen. Hermione advises Harry to take his, and the rest of the students’, educations into his own hands not to keep their grades up, rather to keep them alive in the dark days to come. Just as he is willing to give up the fight, Dumbledore finally opens up to him and begins to prepare Harry for the war to come. We get our first glimpse of Ministry/Muggle intergovernmental cooperation, Professor Snape is definitely a double agent, though his true loyalties are now unclear and Dumbledore fetches Harry from Privet Drive and reinforces a warning he’d previously delivered to the Dursleys. Dumbledore hopes Harry will be the bait in the hook to reel in Hogwarts’ new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. Not everyone is crazy about the soon-to-be new addition to the Weasley family and Drago takes a Nocturne Alley detour to deliver a message for the Dark Lord. Harry attends the Slug Club Christmas party, spies on Malfoy, and rebuffs the Minister’s request for an official endorsement. Harry and Dumbledore witness more Riddle memories and the Headmaster urges Harry to retrieve an important memory from his Potions professor. Ron gets poisoned twice on his birthday. Once by a love potion misfire and again by… ACTUAL POISON! Harry joins Ron in the hospital wing after a Quidditch mishap, and orders his house elf helpers to spy on Draco. Finally, Harry and Dumbledore use the Penceive to see Tom Riddles transformation into Voldemort. Harry knows where Draco is hiding, but can’t see to catch him in the act, but with a little liquid luck Harry is able to complete the mission Dumbledore assigned to him at the beginning of the school year. Harry and Dumbledore learn Voldemort’s darkest secret, and Harry commits his darkest deed to date (albeit by accident). Finally, Professor Trelawney gives Harry two bits of news that distress him greatly, but Dumbledore stops him before he stomps through the floor so they can go off together and hunt Horcruxes. Harry and Dumbledore go spelunking for Horcruxes, which isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds, then, upon returning to Hogwarts, stumble onto an assassination plot in the works. Harry chases the attackers from the castle, and in the process learns the unlikely identity of the Half Blood Prince. Harry, his friends and his teachers are left to grieve, and a loyal friend decides to leave Hogwarts forever. After a funeral, Harry tries to leave Hogwarts and his friends behind as he sets out on his final mission, but going off alone proves more difficult than he expects. Kreacher sheds some light on the origination and possible whereabouts of the locket Horcrux, and the three friends plan a daring heist to retrieve it. Infiltrating the Ministry proves fairly simple, until ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING goes incredibly wrong. Changes in the Ministry are evident and Muggle-born wizards find themselves on trial with Delores Umbridge the judge, jury and potential executioner. IN EPISODE THIRTY OF Joel and Lily tackle chapters 14-19. Harry and his friends, with no safe haven to return to, are on the run. Harry learns that Voldemort is after a previously stolen item, and a possible method for destroying Horcruxes, but the victory is short-lived as, after a fight, the trio becomes a duo. Harry visits the place of his birth, and his parents’ death, and visits with an old friend of Dumbledore’s who isn’t quite what she appears to be. New information paints Dumbledore in a far different, darker light, but spirits are raised as a lost friend returns.
