Jesus’ Greatest Stories // The Parable of the Good Samaritan

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of Jesus’ Greatest Stories. It is so important for us to “go and do likewise.” We are called to love and serve others. This starts with seeing the needs around us – our family, friends, church, work, school, neighborhood, and to the ends of the earth. We can’t do everything, but we can all do something. But, even greater in this story, is realizing that Jesus is the One who rescues us. When we were dead, and lying on the side of the road, Jesus came and paid the price to give us life. Let’s worship Jesus on this Palm Sunday!

Jesus’ Greatest Stories // The Parable of the Talents

In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus shares a story, often called the Parable of the Talents, about a master who entrusts servants resources to manage while he's away. This parable teaches us about using our gifts and resources wisely for His Kingdom. It shows that God expects us to make the most of what we've been given and to invest our time, talents, and resources in ways that honor Him and benefit others. We are not accountable to our fruitfulness but by our faithfulness to Him.

Jesus’ Greatest Stories // The Parable of the Wedding Feast

Jesus’ greatest story today, the Parable of the Wedding Feast, shows us the results of accepting or rejecting God’s gracious and surprising invitation. Through the Gospel, God gives a gracious invitation to everyone, regardless of social or moral standing, to be in His beautifully diverse Kingdom, His Church. Accepting His invitation leads to joy. Rejecting His invitation, through self righteousness or trusting a false gospel, leads to being shut out of His kingdom. All of us who have accepted the invitation have the joyous privilege of inviting everyone into the joy of God’s Kingdom. This Easter season is the perfect moment to invite, invite, invite, as many as you can to worship with you at Rolling Hills.

Jesus’ Greatest Stories // The Parable of the Sower

This Easter season, we will be walking through some of . Jesus taught in parables so people would discover spiritual truth. Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower to show how people respond to the Gospel - the Good News of Salvation. Every person in the world will respond to Jesus in one of these four ways. Where are you? As you hear Jesus’ teaching, how will you respond? This Easter season, let’s respond to God’s Good News and then share His love with others. I pray each of us will bear spiritual fruit in our life for the glory of our great God.

Live in Love // How Can I Leave a Legacy of Love?

THE POWER OF LOVE AS EXPERIENCED BY THE ONE BEING LOVED // 1 CORINTHIANS 13  Thank you for being PATIENT with me. It gives me a sense of connection with you. And how I so appreciate your KINDNESS, particularly when I don’t deserve it. It lavishes me with great joy. You NEVER SHOW ENVY toward those who have more. Grace is your teacher pushing me to maturity.  YOU NEVER EXALT YOURSELF THROUGH PRIDE AND A BOASTFUL SPIRIT. This allows me to experience great freedom in your presence. I’m immersed in a harsh world, but YOUR LACK OF RUDENESS resurrects my soul. I am forced to take inventory of my own life.  YOU AVOID SELF-SEEKING, but set a higher standard with all humility of mind, by thinking more highly of others than you do yourself. Such virtue affords me great comfort. I have done many foolish and upsetting things, but YOU NEVER DISPLAY ANGER. This encourages me to be myself and learn from your gentle spirit.  By NEVER KEEPING A RECORD OF WRONGS, I feel no judgment and can be at peace, which provides such comfort. YOU AVOID, AT ALL COSTS, DELIGHTING IN EVIL, which ministers to my soul and lifts my spirit daily. YOU ALWAYS PROTECT me from myself and the harmful influences that surround me. How uplifting this is when I feel dejected and alone.  YOU ARE SO TRUSTING by providing a safe haven in which to lay my burdens, deepest thoughts, and secrets at your feet. Thank you FOR GIVING ME SUCH HOPE, so as to maintain an eternal perspective. YOUR PERSEVERANCE keeps me focused on that which is important. TO LLOVE SSUPREMELY. Thank you for loving me unconditionally, for that is THE LOVE OF JESUS.

Live in Love // Where Can I Find Real Love?

Love is God’s idea. He created it. And, God wants us to excel at it. In fact, Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God and love others. Life all comes down to how we love. Therefore, having a great marriage starts today. It starts with putting God first in our own heart, putting God first in who we date and ultimately putting God first in our marriage. Love is a commitment, not just a feeling. Feelings come, and feelings go, but love is a commitment we make. If love were just a feeling, then it wouldn’t be a commandment. Are you living in love? Are you dying to self and living for Jesus in all your relationships? Let’s learn to live in love today.

Live in Love // How Do I Grow in Love?

We are called to grow in our love. Love is the basis of every marriage and every relationship. It is easy to blame other people, but what about us? Are you growing in your love? In 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul gives a list of 15 characteristics of what love is, what love is not, and what love always does. As we study this list, put your name in each phrase. Is this who you are in your relationships? To have a thriving, godly, successful marriage today, or one day, grow deeper in your love for God and for others. Make a commitment to live in love.

Live in Love // What is Love?

God wants us to have a great love life. God created love, and He longs for us to thrive. Yet, there is a big difference between the world’s way of love and God’s way. The world’s way says, “What can you do for me?” Where God’s way says, “What can I do for you?” Having a great marriage one day starts today. Learn to love the way God teaches. In your dating relationship and marriage, put God first. Grow in your love for God, and this will impact everything else.

Heaven // When Will Heaven Come?

Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians that he wanted them to be encouraged. They were concerned about loved ones who had passed away. He wanted them to have hope because one day Jesus would come back and bring those who had passed away and those who are living together into His presence for forever. These words should encourage us as well to know that one day Jesus will come and heaven and earth will be one in the new heaven and earth. He promised that we all who are followers will be there and there is no greater hope than that. Until that day comes, we stay hopeful, encouraged, and ready. That hope that heaven will come, should change how we live now.

Heaven // What Will We Do in Heaven?

If you have a personal relationship with Jesus, then one day you will spend eternity in Heaven! This is such good news. We live in a broken and fallen world because of sin, but one day it will all be made right. Jesus will take us to our eternal home, and we will be with God and our loved ones forever. Regardless of what you are facing today, know the best is yet to come in your life. Live as a citizen of heaven in this world today. God is preparing an awesome place for you!

Heaven // How Do I Go to Heaven?

There are a lot of misconceptions about how one gets into Heaven today. Most people think it is about being good, being born in the right family, or even being in church. While all these things are fine, Jesus tells us that there is only one way to Heaven. It is not about religion but about a relationship with Jesus. This is God’s Good News. Eternal life is not based on what we do (or don’t do); it is all based on what He has done for us through His Son, Jesus. Have you repented of your sins and committed your life to Jesus? And, are you growing in Him? Jesus is the goal, and Heaven is the reward. Trust and follow Jesus today.

Heaven // What is Heaven?

Every civilization has had some belief about the afterlife. The Bible even says, (Ecclesiastes 3:11). But, what do we know about Heaven? Well, God wants us to know about our eternal home. Jesus talked extensively about Heaven, and the Bible mentions Heaven over 550 times. In this four-week study, we will focus on Heaven, and I pray you will grow in your understanding of where, if you are in Christ, you will spend eternity. God has a place planned for you that is more wonderful than you can imagine. What you do on this earth prepares you for eternity, so reorder your life today to invest in what is eternal.

God Makes All Things New

For many, the start of a new year is a fresh, clean slate, and setting a RESOLUTION is a way to dictate what they'll prioritize that new year. But, unfortunately, it's more common not to follow through on a resolution than it is for one to complete it. Well, one reason could be that we are creating too lofty of goals. Another could be the way in which we view our "resolution." So, we propose a shift in how you think about your goals this new year. First, start with ONE SINGLE STEP of how you want to grow in your faith this new year. It could be joining a group, being in God's Word daily, praying consistently, or something else. Choose just one thing to focus on. Secondly, rather than calling it a "resolution," shift to calling it a "commitment." Committing to something means that you are making a decision to do (or not do) something. Tell a friend or accountability partner what your commitment is, and ask them to follow up with you.  Friend, pray over and consider what God is calling you to grow in this new year. With His help, you can make a commitment and grow in 2024.

Stories of Christmas | Part Five: Jesus | Jeff Simmons

Merry Christmas! Thank you for celebrating the Christ of Christmas at this special Christmas Eve Service. My hope and prayer is that you experience the love and grace of God as you realize that Christmas is for you. The greatest Gift of all has been given to you this Christmas – Jesus, God’s own Son. As the angel announced, (Luke 2:11). Jesus has come “to you.” May this be your best Christmas yet as you receive the Gift of Jesus in your heart and live your life for His Name and Glory. This is where you truly become alive! At Rolling Hills, our desire is to help you grow in your relationship with God. This comes first through a personal relationship with Jesus. Next, God may be calling you to be baptized as an outward expression of your inward personal commitment. Then, you join the church and lock arms with other Christ-followers as you grow spiritually. Finally, we want to help you take a Daily Step spiritually, and we have a guide to help you read the Bible every day. I’m praying that this Christmas and next year will be your best yet! I encourage you and your family to get involved at church. Every Sunday morning, there is amazing worship, Bible teaching, preschool, children, and kid’s ministry to help you all grow in your faith journey. Putting God first in your life will help you spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. In addition, this will help you grow stronger in all your personal relationships with your family, friends, marriage, and children. God has a great plan for your life, so trust and grow in Him. In January, we are beginning with a study on Heaven. Make a commitment to be a part of this four-week series as we start a new year. Overall, just know how much God loves you. You are so special to Him that He sent His one and only Son for you. This is why we celebrate Christmas, and I pray you will experience His love and come fully alive in your life. Stories of Christmas | Part Four: The Magi | Jacob Scrimpshire

The story of the Magi is one of the mysterious threads in the Christmas narrative. Who were they? Where did they come from, and how did they know about the birth? And even more importantly, why does it matter? When you look closer, you realize it matters a lot. The story of the Magi shows us the beauty of God’s nature, the power of Scripture, and the depth of the human heart. The Magi were willing to do whatever it took to worship the new king, and we should do the same.

Stories of Christmas | Part Three: The Shepherds | Jeff Simmons

The shepherds were invited by God to see His Son, Jesus, that very first Christmas, and their stories were forever changed. God invited them, and God invites each of us. Sometimes, we disqualify ourselves from hearing from God and serving Him, and sometimes we make excuses. This Christmas, will you experience God’s love and see Him change your story? Will you come and adore Jesus and then live a life of worship? (Luke 2:11). The shepherds got it; will you? The shepherds worshiped and ministered to others; will you? Jesus has come -. Merry CHRISTmas!

Stories of Christmas | Part Two: Joseph | Jeff Simmons

God chose Joseph to be the earthly father to His Son. How amazing! Joseph’s entire life changed that first Christmas. He went from living for himself to living out God’s plan for his life. Trusting God is not always easy, but God’s plans for us are always better than our own. God allowed Joseph to be a part of His story, and God is inviting you as well. Each of us has a story. Will you trust God with your life and be obedient to God when He speaks to you?

Stories of Thanksgiving 2023 | Jeff Simmons

We all have so much for which to be thankful. Just think about it. Seriously! In the midst of all the family, food, and football, take some time this week to truly be thankful. Regardless of your circumstances, gratitude is a matter of the heart. We can all be thankful for salvation we have in Christ. We are loved – . Thank God for His Gift of Grace in His Son, Jesus, and the blessings He lavishes on us with family, church, friends, and so much more. May we always be a “Thanksgiving” people because of Jesus!

NEXT | The Impact of Nehemiah | Jeff Simmons

Today is our Commitment Sunday! Today is exactly 52 days since we started our NEXT Campaign as a church. Nehemiah and the people rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem in 52 days, and just imagine what God will do through us as we have prayed, sacrificed, and now give together. The people back then set the stage for Jesus’ first coming, and we are building His church and setting the stage for our Savior’s second coming. Today is a special day! May our God find us faithful as we invest in The NEXT 20 Years, The NEXT Generation, The NEXT Ministry, The NEXT Mission, and The NEXT One. Come, Lord Jesus, and find us faithful!

NEXT | Give Your Best | Jeff Simmons

This is our time. Nehemiah and the people had their day and their time, and now this is our day and our time. God has called us to do something great for Him – to build His Church. God’s Church will outlast us and impact future generations to come for the glory of God. May we live every day as His people, and may we give our best for His glory. This calls for 100% participation. Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice. May we recognize God’s goodness and grace in our life, and follow Him with all our heart. As we come to our Commitment Sunday on November 12, may the joy of the Lord be our strength. Let’s give God our best!

NEXT | Stay Faithful | Jeff Simmons

Just like Nehemiah, God has given each of us a work to do. First, it is coming to know Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, receiving God’s grace, and then growing more like Him every day. Also, it includes the work of developing our God-given gifts, growing a Godly family, building a great church for His glory, and more. It is so easy to be distracted, but when we stay focused and faithful to God’s call, then this is where we see God do miracles. Join in what God is calling us to do individually, and as His Church, NEXT, and let’s see God do what only He can do. Let’s join together and watch what God will do NEXT.

NEXT | Help the Poor | Jeff Simmons

We see the impact of leadership every day in our world. We see good leaders, and we see terrible leaders. Good leaders put others before themselves, while bad leaders put themselves before others. Good leaders give and sacrifice to help and make a difference. Generosity is a big part of good leadership. God teaches His people to be generous, but we live in a world of greed. Will we become godly leaders? Trust God and invest in helping others. As Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

NEXT | Prepare for Challenges | Jeff Simmons

When you serve the Lord, you can count on there being opposition. For all Christ-followers, we have an enemy who wars against us. In John 16:33, Jesus told His disciples, “In this world you will have trouble.” However, our God is greater! When opposition comes, use it as a time to grow your faith. Become more determined to do what God has called you to do and to become all He created you to be. Never give up! Whatever you face in life, always know God is with you, and He is for you. Trust Jesus today, and keep doing the work!

NEXT | God’s Call Takes the Whole Community | Jeff Simmons

Throughout history, God has used men and women to accomplish His work. God doesn’t need any of us. He is sovereign over the entire world. Yet, in His sovereignty and grace, He allows us to be involved in what He is doing in the world. As we join Him and become involved in His work, our lives are changed. We become more like Jesus. Christ-followers who have gone before us have left a legacy that has impacted our lives today – and, now, this is our turn. This is our time. May God find us zealous and faithful in what He has called us to… NEXT.

NEXT | Following God Takes Boldness | Jeff Simmons

Just like God called Nehemiah, so God’s call comes to each of us. God's call always takes boldness. When God gives a vision, we must pray and plan. We pray for God to go before us and prepare the way, and then we take the time to plan as we join God in accomplishing His will. Nehemiah shows us the importance of both praying and planning. So, what’s your plan? What’s your plan to grow spiritually, to disciple your family, and to make a difference in the world for the glory of God? God has given us, at Rolling Hills, a vision and a plan, so let’s build together a godly life and a great church for the glory of our gracious God!

NEXT | The Call of Nehemiah and to Us | Jeff Simmons

Nehemiah had worldly success in his life – (Nehemiah 1:11). Then, God’s call came to him to be involved in the work of the King of kings. This was an invitation from God Himself. How would Nehemiah respond? He could have said “no” to God. He had money, success, and position, but he gave it all to be involved in what God was doing. And, in the process, God used Nehemiah to impact countless lives and to change the world. God’s call has come to us, individually, as His Church today. How will you respond?

When God is Doing a New Thing // Kelly Minter

Have you ever felt stuck?  The same, monotonous routine.  A frustrating, continued circumstance.  Unanswered questions and prayers. You're not alone. The Israelites felt this for years and years. The book of Ezra is devoted to events occurring in the land of Israel at the time of the return from the Babylonian captivity and subsequent years, covering a period of approximately one century. 100 years!  After 100 years, Ezra and the Israelites certainly understood the struggle with being stuck, praying and asking God, "Why? When will this end?"  But, just as God did for His people at this time in history, He does the same for us – He shows up in His perfect timing. He sees us in our confusion, our pain, and our hurt. Even when we don't have a clue or cannot see it, He's working behind the scenes – for our good and for His glory. Even the hard things. Even the confusing things. Even when the timing seems "wrong" to us.  He's doing a new thing, in each of His children, at all times. He's rebuilding, He's preparing us, and He's working according to His will.

Part Six: God Is Able // Jeff Simmons

In an ever-changing world, there is only One constant – Jesus. As God’s people today, we are to live in the confidence that He is forever and ever. Therefore, we live by faith and not fear. Out of our confidence in Christ, we are called to invest faith in Jesus to the next generation. We are called to pass on what has been entrusted to us. As parents, grandparents, and God’s Church today, we must leave a legacy of faith and invest in what matters. What legacy are you leaving?
