Drs Janice Dutcher and Peter Wiernik from the Cancer Research Center of New York discuss their latest work published in the January issue of JIM: Families with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and plasma cell dyscrasias in their pedigrees . A genetic contribution of cancer passed down family generations has been well described. However, the association among common B cell malignancies such as Myeloma and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is less well understood. In this addition of the JIM podcast, we discuss with Drs. Dr. Sean Kandel is from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine where he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Kandel plays a critical role in Resident Research in the Department of Medicine and as well as developing an integrative model of mental health professionals along side Primary Care Providers. Dr. Kandel’s more recent work is investigating new screening tools for mental health disorders that can be deployed in the primary care setting. In this podcast, Dr Cristina Ferraris (principal investigator) and Dr Chiara Listorti (speaker) present the SECCO Study, a randomized effectiveness-implementation trial focusing on patients centricity. It will involve breast cancer patients experiencing adverse events related to antiestrogen hormone treatment after breast surgery. The trial will evaluate the effect of multidisciplinary treatment with dietary intervention and manual treatment with osteopathic techniques on improving the quality of life and on modulation of metabolic, inflammatory and immunologic status, increasing patients adherence to oncological therapies.
