CRAIG & BRIAN WATCH 007 / 002 :: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE

CRAIG & BRIAN WATCH 007 / 002 :: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE a P&S/PRP presentation Legions of 007 fans can't be wrong!  YOU demanded it and we listened!  Craig & Brian ARE BACK and ready to tackle the thrill-packed, danger-ridden second installment of the long-running James Bond film franchise: From Russia with Love!! Craig Smith, rapidly approaching a dozen movies watched in lifetime and now fully caffeine-free, leads an exciting discussion that follows gentleman secret agent James Bond around the globe from England to Turkey to Yugoslavia to Italy.  Brian Linnen, rather embarrassed after years of telling his friends and family that he coined the phrase "Where there's smoke there's fire", does his best to flavor the discussion with trivia from his years of Bond fandom.  And taking a cue from the film itself, the two end the episode by engaging in ritualistic hand-to-hand gypsy combat for the love of Minnesota's pride and joy, Andy Schaal. Craig and Brian feel that 60 years is enough time for everyone to have watched "From Russia with Love", so spoilers will be flying faster than a Peter Hunt edited fight scene!  You have been warned!! Thanks to Robbie Sims for lending his dulcet tones to the show's introduction, and to the Jingle Punks for the use of their cool spy song "Choose Your Path." Don't forget to follow the podcast on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CraigandBrianWatch007 And let us know what you think about this classic film adventure at craigbrianwatch007 at gmail.com

CRAIG & BRIAN WATCH 007 / 001 :: DR. NO

Because YOU demanded it, the fan-favorite team that delighted listeners around the world on the premiere episode of "Teach Craig Stuff" is back in their very own sidecast!! Craig Smith, the headband-wearing founder of the Pods and Sods Network, teams up with Brian Linnen, the less popular host of the Permanent Record Podcast, on an audio adventure decades in the making! "Craig & Brian Watch 007" kicks off in style, going back to the year 1962, to discuss James Bond's big-screen debut!  Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, Joseph Wiseman, and Jack Lord took the world by storm and cinema was never the same again.  Connery was a hero unlike any that had graced movie screens before, and Andress took the world's breath away with her forever-iconic bikini-clad introduction.  Meanwhile, behind the camera, editor Peter Hunt was changing the way movies would look in the coming decade. In a relationship not unlike that of Bond and Quarrel, Craig and Brian do their best to fill this premiere installment with as much trivia, humor, and discussion as they can muster.  Things kick off with timely coverage of a major announcement in the literary world of Bond, before turning to the film.  And as the show opening mentions, Craig and Brian have a license to spoil, so beware!  If you haven't watched this 61 year old movie yet, you might want to finally make time before hitting play. Special thanks to Bond authority Robbie Sims for lending his dulcet tones to the show's introduction.  If Craig and Brian didn't both suffer from inferiority complexes before having to follow Mr. Sims, well, they certainly do now! Check out Robbie's first Bond book, "Quantum of Silliness: The Peculiar World of Bond, James Bond" here: https://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/publication/quantum-of-silliness/9780750994040/ and check out his hilarious Bond-related twitter at https://twitter.com/TheTchaikovsky Thanks to the Jingle Punks for the use of their cool spy song "Choose Your Path."

Two Pick Ten: The Monkees

TWO PICK TEN: THE MONKEES release date 25 Jan 2023 Many many many years in and it's finally here - a Monkees episode of Two Pick Ten.  And who better to join Craig than the host of the wonderful Mixology podcast - Mr. Frederick James French-Pounce.  Coming from the same background of analyzing various versions of songs, Craig is baffled that there is someone who is into this silliness who is much younger than he is, and our guest brings a new twist to the Two Pick Ten series: picking which mix goes on the desert island compilation!  A very pleasant conversation with a guest who is able to follow the rules of the island (we're looking at you, "Mister" Brian Jacobs). When we last left Corey Nowlin, he was saying goodbye to Megan and Craig after spending five days on a boat with a bunch of rabid KISS fans.  He has returned to The Pods & Sods Network to discuss a band that he has some history with and that he and Craig appreciated greatly during the pandemic - Phish.  Lots to take in here, so read the book and surrender to the flow as Corey and Craig take you into the incredibly deep, wide and rewarding world of Phish.

Why We Love Bee Gees

In the first episode of WHY WE LOVE... - a series to kick off an unscripted and all over the place conversation about bands we love (with a little off-topic fun as well) - Brian Linnen (Permanent Record Podcast) joins Craig for a candid chat about a band Craig has loved forever and Brian has loved for under a year - the amazing Bee Gees.  They talk about various albums and songs, the eras of the band, some of their turns on television and films and their solo careers - but not before Brian has a score to settle with Craig and the absent Eric. An Interview With Andrew Sandoval

Andrew Sandoval comes back to the Pods & Sods Network to discuss his forthcoming book The Monkees: The Day By Day Story!  First published in 2005, it had widely been considered the last word on the story of The Monkees - an incredibly detailed chronology of all of the music, filming and tours between their creation and 1970.  Now expanded and essentially rebuilt, the new version of the book contains some mindblowing content that's never been unearthed until now, and Andrew shares some of the new research info with Craig and answers a few listener questions. TWO PICK TEN: THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY After we learned in the previous Beatles episode that Mister Brian Jacobs would try to throw the numbers in his favor, he was banished to a separate desert island that just played one Dylan song on a loop.  Thalia Reynolds (Another Kind Of Mind) proved to be up to the task of choosing, and joined Craig for this Two Pick Ten where they focus on the point where she jumped onto Beatle Fandom - 25 years ago as they celebrate the anniversary of The Beatles Anthology. Track By Track: Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness

TRACK BY TRACK THE SMASHING PUMPKINS MELLON COLLIE AND THE INFINITE SADNESS Original release date: October 23, 1995 In 1994, Smashing Pumpkins were a rock band coming off a super successful album (Siamese Dream) with an epic heavy sound - but many were surprised at exactly how far they could take "epic" - and they certainly took it far on their 1995 masterwork Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.  Christopher Fritz joins Craig once again as they dive into this one track by track, starting in the neighborhood record store where they met, the show where they saw the original four-piece Pumpkin lineup for what would be one of the last times, Billy's track notes, what songs from the singles that would swap into the album, and culminating with these two friends reuniting to see the band in 2018 to relive some of those memories one more time.  Join us on this empty party afternoon where we sing a birthday song to one of the most ambitious albums to come out of the nineties. TWO PICK TEN: ABBA One could say that all of the Two Pick Ten episodes present various rabbit holes that Craig has fallen into - for most episodes, the entire purpose of the series is to bring together two people familiar with an artist's entire catalog of music.
