This is part three of a three part piece. Although it works as a stand alone podcast we suggest you find time to loop back on episodes one ( here: xxxlinktobegeneratedxxx ) and two ( here: xxxlinktobegeneratedxxx ) if you've not yet had time. The topic up for discussion is; “Does increased volume improve cancer outcomes?”. On the panel: Shaman Jhanj, Head of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Research at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Blanche Symons, patient representative, an ex patient of University Collage London Hospital, Daniel Martin, Consultant in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, working on the intensive care unit at Derriford hospital. The piece is co-chaired by Denny Levett, Professor in Perioperative Medicine and Critical Care at the University of Southampton and a Consultant in Perioperative Medicine at Southampton University Hospital NHS Foundation trust (UHS) with Tim Wigmore, consultant, anesthetist and intensivist at the Royal Marsden Hospital. It was taken from the www.ebpom.org World Congress. Check out their site now and learn how you can attend a discussion like this. The Royal Collage of Anesthetists (RCoA) are re-evaluating in the face of a global crisis; where do you stand in the forthcoming debate? This piece, chaired by MONTY MYTHEN and MIKE GROCOTT, originally closed EBPOM Dingle. It’s a much needed full and frank discussion regarding the realities of non-physician anaesthesia providers; could they be a realistic solution to the global staffing crisis we have heard about in recent years? It’s a perfect storm which combines ‘mass retirement’, COVID-19 measures and the related delay in elective surgery. When the RCoA grapple publicly with a debate like this there’s a responsibility for anaesthesia practitioners to consider it as well. As always TopMedTalk is interested to hear what you think, email us on contact@topedtalk.com - your comments might be shared with our audience in the future. As patients live longer their needs are becoming more acute during surgery; this piece asks how we can adapt practice to meet the new challenges this brings. These talks take a long view across the perioperative continuum with a focus upon cognitive impairment and other vulnerable brain patients. Presented by LAURA MACDARBY, Consultant Anaesthetist in The Royal London Hospital, a referral centre for Major Trauma and Stroke in the Whitechapel area of London and ROISIN COARY, SpR in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine, with a specialist interest in Peri-operative Medicine, currently based in Dublin, Ireland.
This vital conversation comes in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis; how different is enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and does it really get the results we want? Recorded at the Dingle Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) conference in 2022. If you’d like to attend an EBPOM conference check out www.ebpom.org now. Chaired by MONTY MYTHEN with contributions from AOIFE LAVELLE, Consultant St James’s Hospital, Dublin, AISLING KINSELLA, Consultant Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgeon at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and VICKI MORTON, Director of Clinical and Quality Outcomes, Providence Anesthesiology Associates.
This week we have the Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) Visiting Professor Plenary Lecture question and answer session for; "The future of the anaesthetic workforce in the UK - a personal view". The full talk - if you’ve not yet heard it - is here: https://www.topmedtalk.com/the-future-of-the-anaesthetic-workforce-in-the-uk-a-personal-view-william-harrop-griffiths-ebpom-2022/ Presented by WILLIAM HARROP-GRIFFITHS, Vice-President Royal Collage of Anesthetists (September 2020-22) and introduced by MIKE GROCOTT, Professor of Anaesthesia and critical care at the University of Southampton.
“This is not a book about the current evidence, this is a book about how you keep making things better in perioperative care”. TopMedTalk speaks with the co-editors of the new book; “Perioperative Quality Improvement”. Following on from our extensive coverage of Anesthesiology 2022, this piece was originally intended to be part of that but - for reasons explained within - it was delayed. To buy it now go to: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Perioperative-Quality-Improvement-Carol-Peden/dp/0323833993 Presented by DESIREE CHAPPELL and MONTY MYTHEN with their guests, CAROL PEDEN, Adjunct Profesor in Anesthesiology at both the Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles, California and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, MICHAEL ENGELSBE is the Cyrenus G. Darling Sr., MD and CYRENUS G. DARLING JR., MD Professor of Surgery within the Section of Transplantation Surgery at Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA and Lee Fleisher, Professor Emeritus, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
This fundamental conversation is given a fresh perspective during one of the stand out moments of the recent Evidence Based Perioperative Medicine (EBPOM) Dingle conference. How do we define evidence in the era of big data? Can we further improve the speed at which we do trials and yet still gather reliable data? In the wake of COVID-19 what new innovations can be made to how we trial and test vital medical help? Chaired by RAMANI MOONESINGHE, OBE, Professor of Perioperative Medicine at University College London, Consultant in Anaesthetics and Critical Care Medicine at UCL Hospitals, this piece features; MARK EDWARDS, Consultant in Anaesthesia & Perioperative Medicine, University Hospital Southampton, Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Southampton, MIKE GROCOTT, Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, University of Southampton and MATT WILSON, Anesthetist, UCL Hospitals and University College London and a PhD candidate.
