Are you wearing the right clothes? | Matthew 22:1-14 | Dominic Steele | 17 March 2024

Dominic Steele is back teaching us today at Village Church on the invitation to the heavenly wedding banquet from God.. But there's a twist. Those who you might expect to be first to accept the invitation actually knock it back. And then God sends invitations out to those who you might not expect. In the end the banquet is full. However it's key that we don't attempt to enter the banquet on our own terms. Jesus says metaphorically we need to be wearing the right clothes. We are looking today at Matthew 22:1-14

Three Challenges from Jesus | Matthew 21:23-46 | Alex Hitchcock | 10 March 2024

This Sunday Alex will be taking us through three challenges from Jesus in Matthew 21:23-46. Despite repeated warnings from Jesus, Israel's leaders refuse to heed God's warning and return to him. Instead they become increasingly hard hearted going from skeptical to hostile to all out rebellious. In these three challenges, we are again reminded of the absolute necessity of recognising Jesus as God's King and warned of the consequences of failing to do so. Instead we are called to hear these warning, believe them and bear fruit in keeping with repentance. As this happens we are also encouraged that no-one is unacceptable to God provide they recognise Jesus as their king We hope you will be confronted and encouraged by these three challenges from Jesus. Imagine you were on Jesus' first century team of key disciples, and he called you aside and said, 'In the next few days, when we arrive at the capital, I will be handed over, mocked, put on trial, crucified and rise.' This is what happens in today's bible reading. It's a clear spelling out of the detail of Jesus' mission. Plus we reflect together on how will we react to this significant news.
