Hello Friends, This week, a busy schedule and a growing list of things I really want to do brought me face-to-face with a decision that shouldn’t have been hard or fraught or dramatic at all. And yet … I’ve decided that instead of publishing both the Welcome to the Garden podcast and the Notes from the Garden newsletter each week, I’m going to publish one of these per week and alternate weeks. This is probably interesting information to you, as a listener, but really not a big deal. I understood, rationally, that this was a pretty low-stakes decision with only positive outcomes. But emotionally, I really struggled with this. I couldn’t figure out why, at first, until I was leaving a voice note for a friend and said, “I just hate to give up ground I’ve fought so hard to gain.” I’ve worked really hard these last few months, and felt really proud that I’ve been able to do both each week. And I realized this wasn’t about the podcast or the newsletter, at all, but instead it was about accepting my own limitations. Once again. This week, I’m sharing how I hit up against some old wounds from when I first got so sick, and the emotions I didn’t realize were still buried deep down from when I had to let nearly everything I cared about go. And I’m sharing how just recognizing this, writing about it, and sharing it with you here has helped me heal another layer of it. Friends, thank you so much for listening! Hello Friends, This week’s episode is all about equanimity, which is apparently my current life lesson, since it’s the word I keep hearing over and over again when I tune in and ask, “what am I meant to be learning here?” I knew what the word meant, but never really had cause to examine what it means. So, after about the 100th time hearing “equanimity” in response to my searching questions, I asked the internet for a definition, and it said, “noun: mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.” Well. Ok. Of course. I hope you’re finding yourselves mentally calm, composed and even of temper in all the difficult situations you might be facing these days. Hello Friends, This week, I had to travel out of town to go to the dentist and I was so excited — not about the appointment, sorry dentist! — but because I had a separate mission. The place we stay when we go down there is right above a rock shop, and I was sure that was where I would meet the clear quartz that was meant to be my Reiki crystal. A few weeks ago, I received my Reiki 1 attunement from my dear friend Charlotte, and she gave me some really good advice on choosing the right stone. Hello Friends, While the title of this episode is ever-so-slightly hyperbolic, I did have a moment of such clarity while doing a little tarot card reading for myself this week. As I explain in the episode, one of the cards that popped out of the deck depicted a childlike person standing at the bottom of a boulder looking up at an older, wiser, cronelike person who is sitting on top of the boulder. And in a moment, I got the message that was meant for me that day. The cronelike person is the childlike person’s highest self, and the gap between them is the spiritual journey. As the child grows and evolves, the gap becomes smaller, and the child becomes more and more of their own, true and highest self. This episode is a bit of a ramble through my own understanding — as far as I’ve seen and been shown so far — of what the spiritual journey is, and what we spiritual seekers are doing as we travel through these lives gaining experience and evolving in wisdom. Hello Friends, When I sat down to write and record this episode, I had no idea that I would end up with a publication date for my book, , but that’s just what happened! I began pondering how long I’d been working on it, and realized that it was very nearly the same amount of time as the events detailed in the book. Basically, there was a complicated math formula involved, and several calculations later, I arrived at a publication date. Hello Friends, A couple weeks ago, I mentioned a time when my belief systems crumbled, and how difficult (understatement!) that was. I’ve been thinking a lot about belief systems since then, and especially now because I’m in the process of digging deeper and going beyond some of mine that are still in place. When I look at this energetically, I see belief systems like the infrastructure of a building. They look like the metal beams that everything else is built around. If we think about how devastating dismantling the very makeup of a building would be to the building itself, it makes sense why we are reluctant and resistant to looking at our own belief systems and allowing them to dissolve. It feels as if the very nature of everything relies on them. However, I also see that these shifts we keep talking about are forcing people to confront these belief systems, really interrogate them, and find out what they really, truly believe. It can feel so scary to allow this process to take place, but as someone who’s been through it a time or two, I can say, for me at least, each time I found a deeper connection with my own Higher Self. And that has been really, really nice. When we look at how deeply entrenched the energies of belief systems are in people’s energy fields, it makes sense why they might dig their heels in and refuse to see anything else. We’re not always ready for this process, and recognizing that can help us have compassion for ourselves and others when it all just feels like too much. Hello Friends, This week was a doozy, and I felt incredibly grateful to receive messages from the Light and Arch Angel Gabriel that helped expand my awareness about what was going on and why. I wanted to share this guidance they provided because it helped me so much! One of the things I’ve really been working on is advice Arch Angel Gabriel provided. He said that, when things are particularly tough, being able to oscillate between our very real human emotions and our understanding of what is happening from a big picture higher perspective actually functions to move the energies, and is a healing force in and of itself. So every time I feel the intense feelings of a thing, I remember to allow that oscillation to take place, and I’m finding it really helps! Hello Friends, I’ve recently had cording come up a bunch in both conversations and in healing work, so I thought it might be a good time to have a chat about it here. Cutting cords is one of my favorite psychic hygiene practices, because I’ve seen and felt how it has changed all my relationships for the better. In this episode, I share some of what I’ve learned about cords, and how to cut them, and tell a couple stories about how it’s helped me in my life. Hello Friends, I’ve realized recently that I use words for alchemy. They are the way that I process and transmute old energies, and they are an incredibly useful tool in my healing kit. Words might not be how you do it, but I thought in sharing this story about how I’m changing my words to change my energies, it might help you recognize some of the tools you use to do the same. Hello Friends, I’m learning so many interesting things right now! I’ve been drawn to some books and newsletters that are talking about the science of nature, and it’s so exciting to see how what I’m reading intersects and overlaps with what I’m learning from being in nature and communicating with the plants and nature spirits. My guides are delighted when I learn new things, and are often excited to build upon these new frames of reference, so when I tuned in this week, my tree deva friend Ahramein was there hoping to share a message about what the trees hope for us to learn. It’s all about interdependence, he said, showing me how every cell, atom and molecule that makes up each one of us is connected to every cell, atom and molecule of everything else. He encourages us to open our hearts to understand this more deeply, and assures us that this is a gateway to fully embodying more of our own true selves. I hope you enjoy the episode! Hello Friends, As I look out the window, everything is gray and white. A few weeks ago, I might not have known what day it was, or had any ideas for how to fill my time with things that lift my heart. But now, I know exactly what day it is — it’s Organizing Day! Maybe organizing isn’t something that makes your heart happy, but around here, it’s a love language. And each week, we have a day dedicated to doing something that makes our lives more organized. Our lives are a bit unstructured in winter, without the garden to fill every hour from sun up to sun down, and we found we were getting a bit depressed as one day blurred into the next, with only our Laundry Day to anchor our week. So we sat down and thought about what makes us happy. Cooking and baking, organizing and tidying the basement each got their own day every week. Don’t judge — we just love what we love! We find that we not only feel uplifted from doing something we love, we also have more energy than before instead of less. Like, taking the time to do something that makes our hearts happy actually provides an infusion of life force we didn’t have before. Thanks for listening! Hello Friends, I wanted to take a little ramble through the hopes I set out for 2023, how they ended up becoming reality, and some of what I learned from how they worked out and/or surprised me. As I mentioned in this week’s Notes from the Garden, I’ve been setting hopes instead of goals or making resolutions, using what I hope for as a framework or outline for what I want my life to be energetically. If you haven’t read it yet, and find yourself curious, here’s the link: The biggest thing to happen this year was when our darling dog Ginger slipped on the ice in February and tore a ligament in her back right leg, which required surgery to repair. The entire year almost was consumed with helping her prepare for surgery, getting her through surgery and helping her recover. It was long and involved, but actually — weirdly — became the means by which a lot of my hopes for this year came true. The thing I most want to talk about this week, I guess, is how we don’t always know what’s going to happen, or why, but when we set the intention to learn and to evolve spiritually, our lives give us so many opportunities. Some of these are objectively extremely hard to get through, but hopefully we can look back at them from the other side with gratitude for how they helped us bring about such a deeper understanding of everything our souls are hoping to experience. What were your hopes going into 2023? I feel like no matter the outcome, the things we hope for, and then how they work out, can teach us so much about how we want to continue. Not to be confused with our dog, who is also called Ginger, this episode is about our Ginger plants. They just got planted out in the dome, where they are very happy, but getting them growing and big enough to move out there was challenging and nerve wracking and lovely and joyful!
