Basic Teen TV: Dawson's Creek Rewatch

Melissa, Victoria and Cyndi

About

If you're a child of the 90's then you might remember shows like "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," "Felicity," "My So-Called Life," and "Dawson's Creek" to name a few. This show will attempt to revive those glorious or maybe not-so-glorious teenage feels with in-depth conversations about Dawson's hair, high-school parties and why doesn't anyone remember that "My So-Called Life" was only on the air for one season? We'll be drinking a little wine, a little vodka, and engaging in fully coherent conversation about all of this and much more. The first show up is Dawson's Creek! We hope you enjoy!

Hot and Cold Relationships

So we ARE back to regularly scheduled programming and three distinct storylines are happening in this episode. But the major takeaway is that some relationships are heating up while others may be cooling off. Guesses on who’s getting hot and who’s feeling a chill!!

Don't Be a Hero, Joey

The DC writers were on some shit while writing this crazy, insane, batt-shit crazy episode. Joey gets robbed for 30-45 minutes, the robber gets run down by a hit-and-run driver and his whole family seems to be a reflection of Joey’s life. Like what was this episode?

K-I-S-S-I-N-G

The whole gang comes together in this episode, “Guerrilla Filmmaking.” We are filming Oliver’s terrible film with Dawson at the helm as the film’s director. Jen is getting her feathers ruffled with Charlie on set as the lead actor and Audrey is feeling guilty over her feelings for Pacey. And to be honest, the best thing to come out of this episode is we are finally getting what we all want - Audrey and Pacey

A Wilder Dry Hump

Dawson is ready to go back to school…film school but this time in Boston with the rest of the gang. This means that he and Jen are becoming closer and closer and more and more in love. So in love that Jen is in fear of losing her radio show. Jack is in major trouble with the school and we learn what the frat really thinks of him. And the biggest storyline of all in this episode is Joey and Professor Wilder crossing a gross and huge ethical line.

People Moving In, People Moving Out

Per usual, we struggled a little bit to get through this week’s episode but we somehow got it together…barely. So, in this episode, we discover the many uses for a toothbrush as we watch Jen and Dawson navigate living together for the first time in Grams’s house. Meanwhile, Jack moves into the frat house and realizes that he’s living amongst homophobes. Cyndi thinks Jack should see the silver lining here - Jack’s got a room with an en suite all to himself. And Pacey struggles with whether or not to stick around in Boston where he’s starting to plant some roots or take another adventure at sea.

Things Get "Wild"

I don’t know what Dawson’s Creek means when they say “Something Wild” but things remain pretty tame, at least in our opinion. We spend most of this episode in two locations: at the clubby club with Jen, Audrey…and Charlie and then we're back in Capeside with Jen and Dawson. At the clubby club, we’re privileged to witness some of the most cringe scenes where Charlie hits on Joey, Audrey trying to get some random bro to make out with Joey, and the biggest cringe moment - Joey performing “I Want You to Want Me” with Charlie’s band. Meanwhile, Dawson brings Jen “home” to "meet" his mom whom she knows and watched grow up. So, what is happening right now?

Blue Balls for Dinner

It’s Family Dinner time and like most family dinners there is some drama but to our dismay, there was almost no drama in episode 10, "Appetite for Destruction." At least not as much as we wanted, leaving us with blue balls. Zero satisfaction. Jen and Dawson’s relationship is revealed to everyone, and the awkward family dinner begins.  Throughout all of this, Pacey is just trying to make a lovely dinner for everyone while testing out his cooking skills. We would love a listen and follow, a rate and review from our #BasicBitches! Let us know what you really think! And you can follow us on Instagram and TikTok! @BasicTeenTV on both platforms.

Telling Scary Stories

So this was a buffer-type episode where 3 out of the 5 main characters plus Grams each tell a scary story. So this episode of Basic Teen TV didn’t have much drama to go over. But out of these 4 scary stories, Joey’s scary story was probably the most relatable. As women, we are always on alert during the night night time hours. And because this was a fluff episode, we decided to tell you our own scary stories. Hope y’all don’t get too scared!

Everyone's Trying to Bang

Ok, Dawson’s Creek is back with a drama-filled episode. Thanks gawds! So Jack is testing out what it would be like to be a pimp but instead is proving to be a real douche canoe. Pacey is sneakily trying to date server Karen but it completely backfires on him. And the thing we’ve all been waiting on for the past 4 and half seasons...the final main character on the show to finally give up his most precious gift - Dawson finally has sex! And SPOILER ALERT: He bangs Jen Lindley!!! Survey question: Do you prefer to eat and then bang or bang then eat?

Yeah, It Was Boring

Well, this episode of Dawson's Creek wasn’t any fun at all. We struggle with this one and with that, I struggle to write a synopsis for this episode. LOL! I guess a little bit of drama is that Jen and Dawson are becoming closer through therapy. She’s been there and done that and now she’s helping Dawson navigate his way through it. Pacey feels the need to be a knight in shining armor and save Karen from herself. And Joey is just figuring out her way through the Rose Lazar project with not-hot Professor Wilder.

It's His Creek & We're All Just Swimming in It

Dawson goes to therapy and Victoria’s like “Finally!” But he has to go to Boston for therapy because there are only 2 therapists in all of New England. However, instead of going to therapy, he goes to the frat house with Jack and gets hammer time and the party continues on the boat that Pacey’s living on. Dawson avoids all of his feelings regarding his dad and drinks himself into oblivion. To Cyndi, this means he is truly becoming a man. But the real juice from this episode is Jen’s plot to catch Charlie cheating on her. She’s got some help from the "other" girl, whose name is Nora. While it was a completely implausible situation, we were hoping that Nora and Jen would become friends but we all know that’s not gonna happen.

Where's the Brie?

So while we may be a little confused by the title of this episode we’ve got a lot of important items to discuss. Cyndi has major beef with the agenda that Dawson’s Creek is trying to force onto us that Professor Wilder is a hottie. Dawson is cracking a little bit because he’s not dealing with his father’s death. Jack is distracted by the fraternity and Toby & Jen are pissed about it. We get a lovely display of gaslighting from Charlie when his and Jen’s relationship hits a bit of tension but Jen may have been right to trust her instincts. But the major question on all of our minds is where is the brie???

Death by Ice Cream

Today’s episode is a slightly sad one because Mitch is dead y’all….death by ice cream. We cannot believe the writers would send Mitch out like that. So now we are left to discuss how his death has affected those closest to Mitch. And for the first time in Basic Teen TV history, Victoria and Cyndi got choked up with a lump in their throats. We did get through this episode pretty quickly and therefore proceed to talk about the plot holes that Cyndi and Victoria will never get over.

"Give Me the Beat Boys and Free My Soul"

Dawson’s existential crisis has spilled over into episode 3 as he finds himself “adrift in a sea of uncertainty.” Ugh, gross! In the meantime, Joey finds out that Pacey has been in the town this whole time and never once wanted to see her. Joey's like, "How can this be? I'm Joey f*cking Potter!" Jack is taking a huge leap by helping Sig Ep check off a diversity box and Jen is wondering if Charlie is illiterate. Also, what would you do if you accidentally chucked your scoop of ice cream onto the passenger side floorboard??

There's Something About Joey

So the Dawson and Joey saga continues and we are so over it. I mean, we’ve been over it for a while. However, we get more of Audrey as she befriends Dawson in episode 2. Jen and Charlie are starting a little sumthin' sumthin'. Pacey has been in Boston this whole time but he’s hiding out from Joey. And what we are all wondering is…what is the big deal with Joey?!?!

We're All About Hand Stuff...in College

Your favorite girls are back! We are slowly but surely getting through Dawson’s Creek and we’re getting into Season 5. The whole gang, well maybe not the whole gang, but we're are in college now. Of course, Joey is at the “smart” school, Jen and Jack are at the “party” school, and Dawson is in Cali at USC (University of Southern California, NOT University of South Carolina). One bright shiny, positive is that Busy Philipps has joined the cast and she is truly a breath of fresh air!   Check out our website: Basic Teen TV Podcast Follow us on Instagram and TikTok Leave us a rating and review on Apple and anywhere you can leave a rating and review! The Gang is Breaking Up OR Are They?

We've done it! We've reached the end of season 4 and the gang is getting ready to go their separate ways. Unfortunately, there is a call back to the season finale of season 1 and we are left wondering about the status of Dawson and Joey. On another note, I want to say thank you again for listening to my message at the beginning of this episode about my high-school classmate who is battling back against Lupus. Here is the link to her GoFundMe page: Nono "Cynthia" Osuji's Fight for Life Fund Please share her story and if you can making a donation to help Nono with her recovery and medical expenses. I would be forever grateful.

Trying to Remember Prom

Season 4 is almost over and there are some big changes and revelations coming to the surface: A new baby and Mitch not really loving it, a couple of hugh break ups, a new couple forming. And all we're trying to do is remember our own Proms. Where was it exactly? Was there a limo? Did we dance? Did we even go?

Permanent State of Turtling

You just really have to listen to this week's episode to truly understand the meaning of this episode's title but it turned into a running theme. But anyway, this week some big secrets are revealed. Joey comes clean with Dawson about losing her virginity to Pacey and what really happened that brought Jen to Capeside? Oh and more about college...people get acceptance letters and stuff...boooring!

It FINALLY Happened

Pacey and Joey boned! Ugh, finally! This has been a long time coming and probably the longest any Capeside couple has ever waited to finally have sex. Now Dawson is the lone virgin in Capeside. This was the juiciest part of this week's episode of Basic Teen TV with some other less interesting stories sprinkled in here and there. And oh yeah...Joey, after finally having sex with her boyfriend, Pacey, is still a major queen B!!! Why?!?!

The Tao's and The Te's

Episodes 10, 11 and 12 of Dawson's Creek were all about relationships: Dawson and Gretchen's growing relationship, Pacey and his disfunctional family relationships and as always...Joey and Pacey's relationship. Oh and a major consistent opinion is that Joey is still and will probably always be a b*tch.

All The Beef

There is so much beef brought up in these three episodes (ep. 7-9 of Season 4) and many attempts to squash all that beef. Can this fractured group ever come back together and heal?? Will all of them ever be friends again??? We sure hope so! LOL!

College, College, College and Some Ecstacy

So a lot of anxieties were brought to the surface in these episodes because the gang is apply to college. We discuss a very timely issue in abortion, women's and LGBTQ rights. But there was also a lot of leaning into joy with a classic high-school party, a corporate Halloween Party...or was it a rave? And a certain uptight someone really leans into joy by experimenting with ecstacy.

The Gang is Back Together OR Are They?

Here it is...the moment you've all been waiting for...Basic Teen TV is back with our next installment. We are on to season 4 of Dawson's Creek. The biggest questions on our minds are what will Capeside be like with the return of Pacey and Joey and will the DC crew even care? Thankfully there was an episode that tests the true limits of everyone's friendship.

So PUMPED to be Back!

It's been so long that Victoria and Cyndi couldn't even remembered what happened at the end of season 3 of Dawson's Creek. I get it. As it has become our modus operandi it's taken us more than a year to come back with fresh episodes. So get ready...Basic Teen TV talks about season 4 of everyone's favorite teen TV drama - Dawson's Creek!

The One with the Meme

We finally made it! We made through all of season three. Just like seeing a celebrity on the street or riding a roller coaster, the moment we've all be waiting for happened where we witnessed the Dawson Leery ugly cry meme! And despite our feelings about Joey we are happy with how things turned out. #TeamPACEY!!! We'll be taking a break, hopefully not as long as last time, but we will definitely be back with season 4! Dawson Fucking Sucks

Are we noticing a pattern here? One by one, each of these characters are showing their true shitty side. This time it's Dawson. I am now beginning to understand why all of my friends were #TeamPacey back in high-school.  In this episode we're talking about the love triangle that is Pacey, Joey and Dawson. Joey should choose Pacey but her gross loyalty to Dawson may ruin that. Meanwhile, we see the strange ripple effect it has on the rest of the Capeside gang.  Oh and for the first part of the episode we welcome a very special guest to join the discussion! Hopefully this is the just the beginning of special guests on BTT!

Joey Fucking Sucks

This episode of Basic Teen TV was recorded shortly after January 6, 2021. We only mention it in passing in this episode but if you don't understand the importance or relevance...um, how could you not? But just Google it. Anyway, the three episodes we discuss deal a lot with Joey who is Cyndi's favorite person to talk about. She just Joey! And the moment I have been waiting for happens and the fabric of the universe surrounding Dawson, Pacey and Joey is in danger of being ripped to shreds!

Shitty Aurora Borealis, Lame Golf Course Parties, & Some WWE-style Action

We're about halfway through Season 3 and relationships in Capeside are a-changing. And the backdrop to these changes are some shitty stock footage of the Aurora Borealis, a golf course, and a culturally appropriated mural. On the upside, the character of Dawson Leery seems to be taking a backseat to much of the drama.

"Love is the Hardest of Woods"

While these next three episodes might be another snoozer, you'll want to listen all the way to the end because someone lint rolls a very interesting place on their body. Just kidding! Well sort of... Much of the gang is working through some very personal dilemmas and issues and Dawson is still being the same old Dawson. We wonder why he is considered the main character of this show.
