However, with hindsight knowledge, the reader of today’s Gospel text can say that the shout of hosanna was a prelude to the victory chant of Easter Sunday. On Easter Sunday, death would be defeated, and Christ would be declared victor. The fight against death would take place in death’s own territory. Palm Sunday thus opens the curtains for the... Front Porch Philosopher

Sometimes the old folktales are true. Right now, we are having what they call an Easter snap. It means that just before Easter, no matter how warm and pleasant it has been, we always are going to have a cold weather spell. I remember one old farmer who would always lament that it always came at the wrong time just as the fruit trees were putting on their blossoms and earliest fruit embryos. Sometimes it did affect the fruit crops adversely but most of the time it just gave him something to complain about. Have you noticed how pessimistic people... Inside the Statehouse

Growing up as a teenager in the 1960’s, I served as a Page in the Alabama Legislature. One day when I was around 13 years old, I was looking around the House of Representatives and it occurred to me that North Alabama, as well as the state’s largest county, Jefferson, was vastly underrepresented. Even at that early age I knew that the U.S. Constitution required that all people be represented equally, and that the U.S. Constitution superseded our state Constitution. Both Constitutions clearly state that the U.S. House of Representatives and the Alabama House of Representatives must be reapportioned every... Dollars - Cents

As pointed out in previous columns, most Americans do not have adequate funds set aside for emergencies nor are they saving for retirement. To increase the well-being of individuals and enhance the financial security of the nation, this must change. Individuals must find ways to increase their savings.
