Listen, we enjoy The Boys as much as probably the average viewer. We don't hate it, but we also don't fawn all over it. Sometimes it can be way over the top, even for us, and that says a lot. BUT we had to watch the spin-off just in case this was more our cup of tea. We sat down in order to watch Gen V. "Gen V is an American superhero television series, developed by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg, and Eric Kripke, serving as a spin-off of The Boys by Kripke, and based on The Boys comic book story arc "We Gotta Go Now" by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Shelley Conn in main roles." It is interesting and different enough for the spin-off, but if you're looking for something at least a little toned down, this still isn't it. But, if you're looking for the hard hitting, way over the top show, then this is a must watch! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! I think for the most part, we were all sad when AMC announced that The Walking Dead proper would be coming to an end! Some of those fears were assuaged when it was also announced that there would be a few spin-offs coming, but the more exciting news was who would be starring in those spin-offs. Today we are talking about the Maggie & Negan series, The Dead City! "The series follows Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan cut off from the mainland in search of Maggie's kidnapped son, Hershel. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror." With three new spin-offs out/or announced, we can still live in the world of the dead, and that is still an exciting prospect! Don't miss out on this series! Summer of 2023 was a pretty crazy time when it came to today's topic! Somehow this movie got intertwined with the Barbie movie, and though I'm not 100% sure why this happened, it was such a fine time for the movie industry! I don't want to say that Barbie made Oppenheimer the film that it was, but it definitely didn't hurt, and Oppenheimer is a killer good movie as well!! "During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world's first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history." Doyle, at the beginning of this episode, labels this movie as the scariest film that wasn't a horror film! The more and more you think about the film, and the circumstances, the more and more you think that this is probably a true statement! It's time to go back to the year 2008 for today's pop culture classic pick! This pick came in from one of our awesome patreon supporters! We are of course talking about the cult classic film, Cloverfield! "As a group of New Yorkers (Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Odette Yustman) enjoy a going-away party, little do they know that they will soon face the most terrifying night of their lives. A creature the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Using a handheld video camera, the friends record their struggle to survive as New York crumbles around them." Cloverfield was super polarizing when it originally came out! It was controversial for how it was shot, and there were many stories of people coming out of theaters while throwing up. This of course came from the new camera angle that, though maybe not invented by the Cloverfield team, was definitely made much more popular. If somehow you've made it these sixteen years without seeing this movie, you're doing yourself a disservice, and you need to go check it out now! There are many real deep nerd culture projects. These are projects that, while very well liked and guarded in our community, they generally tend to fly under the radar for the general public! Babylon 5 is one of those shows! We had the opportunity to interview J. Michael Straczynski during a round table, and speak to him about Babylon 5: The Road Home! "John Sheridan unexpectedly finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities. Along the way, he reunites with some familiar faces and discovers cosmic new revelations about the history, purpose and meaning of the universe." It was such a HUGE honor of ours to meet and speak with J. Michael Straczynski, and I know that Albie, our interview was in awe of the situation! Such a fun interview to talk about his career, and process, especially as there had been some stars who had passed away before this was made, and the respectful nature in which that was honored! Today's episode is a little bit controversial. But only in the sense that it was almost universally disliked once it came out. Controversial because the graphics and CGI that were used, were WAY below what a $200 million movie should be putting out. We are of course talking about The Flash. "Worlds collide when the Flash uses his superpowers to travel back in time to change the events of the past. However, when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, he becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation. With no other superheroes to turn to, the Flash looks to coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian -- albeit not the one he's looking for." Like always, we do think that every topic we speak about, is worth watching, reading, listening to, etc. This is just one of those projects where it hurts to recommend a first watch. It might be high time to revamp the flash, and we think that's exactly what James Gunn is doing! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! Whether you love him or hate him, today's episode is pretty much all about Sam Jackson! This TV series may have been better served as a movie? But then again, we think a lot of movies should be TV series. Today', we're going to talk about Secret Invasion! "The core concept of Secret Invasion is undeniably fascinating. The Skrulls, a shape-shifting alien species, plan to take over Earth by stealing the faces of humans and infiltrating their militaries and governments. It's Fury's espionage movie-inspired mission to root out the enemy and keep the planet safe." Not sure how you feel about Marvel TV shows, but this was definitely one of the slower ones. Good, bad, or indifferent, you should still make sure that you check it out. It definitely furthers the storyline, into a few different movies and TV shows. We don't know everything, but we do know that we're still pretty excited but what Marvel is going to bring us in the future. It's pop culture classic time!! We're going back to 2008 to talk about today's topic!! With five years under its belt, and a movie, this was definitely one of the most popular movies of the decade! We're talking about the drug filled series, Breaking Bad!! "Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between 2008 and 2010, Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a struggling, frustrated high school chemistry teacher who transforms into a ruthless kingpin in the local methamphetamine drug trade, driven to provide for his family financially after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer." I, personally, came to the Breaking Bad game much later than most people. The series had already concluded, and the movie had already been released. We are FAR removed from the popularity of this series, but it sucked me in none the less. While the acting and the way the series looks aren't the best, it's the storyline that really sucked me in. If somehow, you are like I was, and you haven't seen this movie, you need to make sure you find it, and binge the hell out of it! Whether you love it or hate it, the Star Wars universe continues to grow and grow, into the furthest parts of the Star Wars universe. Some of it is cannon, some being canonized, and some being taken out of cannon, and this splits the fandom in a ton of different opinions. Today's topic is no different, but we think that Ahsoka is a great part of this universe!! "Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars, seeks to prevent the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn following the fall of the Empire." Love it or hate it, these parts of the universe are here to stay. Hopefully we as an audience will find ways to embrace what is here, and what is to come. That doesn't mean that it's above critique, but if we don't embrace it in some way, we may never get anymore. The good thing about Ahsoka, is that there is much to like! There is a big shift in what is going on over in the DC world. With the end of a universe, and shifting to a new universe, a lot of things are new, and some things are old. We'll be talking about the old soon, but today we're talking about the new, in Blue Beetle! If this is any indication on what is to come then the new DC universe will be much more fun than what came before it! "Jaime Reyes suddenly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology called the Scarab. When the Scarab chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he's bestowed with an incredible suit of armor that's capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle." I know that, even though the fanbase seemed to have a lot of fun with this film, that most people are probably waiting for a "big" DC film, but if you don't go see this because of some kind of apprehension, then you're for sure missing out! This is a very fun superhero film that doesn't take itself too serious, and that's needed right now! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! At the heart of our show, we are very much in love with comic books! That means that any time that we can speak with some awesome creators, we are definitely going to make it happen! We have another awesome interview with a creator out of Fanbase Press! Today's awesome guest is the writer of Ripple Effects, Jordan Hart! "In a world that is no stranger to superheroes, George Gibson is invulnerable to physical harm but fights every day to stay alive. Suffering from an acute case of type 1 diabetes, his invincibility is offset by a defective pancreas that must be monitored and treated daily. This incurable disease makes George’s body both his greatest strength and his eternal weakness. " What a wild concept that Jordan and his team have come up with! In a crazy twist of fate, George, the titular character is a superhero with invulnerability to harm, BUT is plagued with an invisible illness that he has to deal with every single day of his life, sometimes dealing with multiple issues throughout the day, while George is fighting crime! It's always more connecting when you can look up to someone who isn't completely invincible, but is still able to overcome and make the world better! We have gone pretty far from where we started, when it comes to the Transformers, original film. Whether you've been along for the ride the whole time, or whether the 7th film is your starting point, which actually is possible, we hope that you'll stay! Transformers may not be for everyone, but with seven films, they're different enough for you to enjoy something from them! With that in mind, we're talking about Transformers: Rise of the Beasts! "Optimus Prime and the Autobots take on their biggest challenge yet. When a new threat capable of destroying the entire planet emerges, they must team up with a powerful faction of Transformers known as the Maximals to save Earth." This serves as a sequel to the Bumblebee film, as well as a prequel to the original 2007 Transformers! At this point we're into the stories from the "beast wars" sub franchise of Transformers, and is supposed to be a starting point for the Maximals! We're along for the ride, that's for sure! Say what you will about whether or not you like any Guillermo Del Toro movie, but you can't take away from the fact that man is a genius at making a film look great. His films just have a different look and feel to them, and that usually means that above all else, they're at least going to be super artistic. You can see that shining through in today's episode, which happens to be Del Toro's first feature film, Cronos! "Antique dealer Jesus Gris (Federico Luppi) stumbles across Cronos, a 400-year-old scarab that, when it latches onto him, grants him youth and eternal life -- but also a thirst for blood. As Jesus enjoys his newfound vitality, he's unaware that a dying old man, Dieter de la Guardia (Claudio Brook), has sent his nephew, Angel (Ron Perlman), to find the scarab and bring it back to him. But Jesus will not give immortality up easily, even risking the life of his orphan granddaughter (Tamara Shanath)." You might be thinking that this is your typical, run of the mill Vampire movie, but it's actually quite different. Yes, it has Vampires in it, but "how" a Vampire is made in this film is very unique, and I don't think I've seen the idea since that time. The acting isn't the greatest, but it's a film ahead of its time, and you should definitely give it a watch! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! There have been many monster movies in the history of movies, but I do think that while there are many Vampire movies in existence, that Vampires are underrepresented. Yes, many of those Vampire movies are very popular, but I do believe that it's a genre of film that is lacking. Today's episode comes to you from the latest Vampire film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter! "The crew of the merchant ship Demeter sets sail from Carpathia to London to deliver a cargo of 50 unmarked wooden crates. However, they soon discover they're not alone as Dracula's unholy presence turns the trip into a nightmarish fight for survival." While, yes, it IS a Dracula film, it's still worth at least one watch. We do have some issues with the film when it comes to the style, and how the film was shot, but we definitely didn't hate it. If you like this genre, it's definitely worth it if you have not already gone to see it! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! Both men are cursed with a unique ability - whenever they take a life, they immediately travel backward or forward through time." Imagine being an assassin as your main job, but when you kill someone, you have no idea where you'll end up. Do you continue being an assassin, not knowing where in time you're going to end up? We had the opportunity to speak with comic book writer Desiree Proctor! She was attending San Diego Comic Con 2023 with the amazing Fanbase Press! We have spent years speaking with the creators of Fansbase, and this interview is no different! Desiree spoke to us about her book, Nuclear Power! "October of 1962. The Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union is at its peak when the unthinkable happens: nuclear war. Sixty years later, the remaining 13 states rose from the ashes to form the American Union, governed by the authoritarian Joint Chiefs of Staff and protected by a border wall to keep out nuclear radiation . . . and the individuals who were enhanced by it. Nuclear Power is a darkly poignant alternate history tale that posits the lengths to which a government will go to protect (or deceive) its citizens. When the Joint Chiefs’ dark secrets are revealed, will survivors on both sides of the wall join forces to fight for their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, or will their differences forever divide them?" Our final chapter in this spooky series, MAYBE one of the best of the films? There are five in this series, so it's up to you to decide which of those is your favorite, and in what order you rank them! We are talking about the final chapter in the Insidious series, Insidious The Red Door! "Josh Lambert heads east to drop his son, Dalton, off at school. However, Dalton's college dream soon becomes a living nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both." As with any film series that has many sequels, there are going to be some that aren't as good as the original. In this case, even the ones that aren't as good, are still worth taking the time to watch! October's spooky season continues with even more Insidious than the last episode!! BUT, because we are reviewing these episodes in order from their respective universe, and not chronological order, today's episode is all about the very first film in the series. It was aptly title, Insidious! "Parents (Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne) take drastic measures when it seems their new home is haunted and their comatose son is possessed by a malevolent entity." If you're watching these in universal order, then you're already pretty familiar with a lot of the faces that you get to see throughout this movie, PLUS the timing of certain things makes more sense. This is the story of what one mom and dad will do, in order to try and get their son back. How far would you go in order to try and keep you son safe? Even if the danger lies beyond the mortal plane? Hopefully you're keeping up with these movies, or are catching up at this point, because they really are worth the watch! With support from two parapsychologists, Elise ventures deep into The Further -- where she finds a powerful demon with an insatiable craving for human souls." "Brilliant parapsychologist Elise Rainier receives a disturbing phone call from a man who claims that his house is haunted. Even more disturbing is the address -- 413 Apple Tree Lane in Five Keys, N.M. -- the home where Elise grew up as a child. Every once in a while we go outside of our bubble, to talk about something that we think is worth it, or is fun. In this case, today's topic hit both of those things for us. PLUS, there are different aspects of this game that tie into the comic book world that we like to live in! We had the chance to sit down with the two awesome creators of this new card game, and had the chance to play a round or two!! The name of the game is BAM! " In Earth Tau, you are a high-ranking super in charge of deploying teams throughout the known and unknown. Outscore your rival(s) before they can claim victory. Earth Tau is an ever evolving playground of in house systems, real world data, and creativity; all curated to develop great stories, new ideas, and new ways to deliver that content. We are also gamers, and felt something was missing in the market." Look out for all new sets and cards to come in the future, plus all of the stories that are behind every single card! Still crushing it during San Diego Comic Con with some awesome interviews!! Boom! Studios is a great partner when it comes to interviews, especially during comic cons! One of these awesome interviews was with their team behind Sirens of the City! A comic book that I have subsequently added to my pull list! We spoke with Joanne Starer and Khary Randolph! "New York City. 1980s. Runaway teen Layla struggles to survive the mean streets, far from home. Meanwhile, every supernatural creature–from sirens to incubi–descend upon the city…all in vying for control of Layla and the child-to-be she never wanted growing inside her." This is a really cool concept! A concept that, sure, has been done before, but not in the way that Joanne and Khary are doing it now! Not only do we get a main character who is going through life, trying not to become the person that she was destined to be, but we also get a heavy dose of monsters in the form of sirens and incubi! Plus, Khary does a phenomenal job of recreating New York for this world! A monthly story, make sure that you pick it up at your local comic book shop! Today's interview is exactly that! We had the chance to sit down and speak with Jason Lego, an artist, and his new project Sewer Boyz! SEWER BOYZ celebrates the classic New York City ninja fight which will be presented as a softcover comic book containing art by 31 artists in 120 black and white pages, including a pin-up section , and a sticker!" Sometimes we take a side step out of the "pop culture" world, and into a different world that we are interested in. Now, for all intents and purposes, this still might be pop culture, and like I said, is only a side step away from normality, but today's interview comes from the world of wrestling!! During San Diego Comic Con, you never know who is going to show up, and who you might run into! She also had a successful tenure on the independent circuit, most notably for Shimmer Women Athletes. She has also appeared in WWE on their developmental territory NXT under the ring name Blue Pants." It's always fun talking to and meeting wrestlers! We had the opportunity to take a little bit of time from an awesome comic book creator! Not only did she create one of the first Latina superhero's but now she is expanding on that, and bringing a whole diverse team!! We are talking to Kayden Phoenix about the project, The Majestics! "Kayden Phoenix is a third generation Chicana from East LA. She was raised with the best movies from the 90's - Disney princesses and action films. After creating A LA BRAVA, Universe of Latina Superheroes, she delved into princesses. " Kayden has been creating great stories for a while now, and this team of diverse superhero's does nothing but add to what will be a great legacy! Not only are these great for adults, but they are also great for that child who maybe doesn't think that the superhero's enmasse represent them! We picked up copies ourselves, and you definitely need to do the same! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! Back in full force at one of our favorite shows, San Diego Comic Con! We had a great reunion with a team whom we've done a lot with, and have spoken to almost every member of their creative force!! We are talking about the Fanbase Press team, and we were able to steal some time with Richard Fairgray, the creator of the Fanbase Press book, Four-Color Heroes! "Richard Fairgray (born 1985) is a New Zealand–born author and illustrator, working primarily in comics and children's books. He draws and colors and animates his work, in spite of being legally blind, with 3% vision in one eye and none in the other." "Four-Color Heroes is a touching love story which follows two star-crossed young men who—in spite of their disparate backgrounds—find escape and one another through the pages of a comic book." This is such a touching story, and we learned not only so much about it, but about Richard and what he is attempting to bring forth, through this book! Check out Richard's work, and the awesome other works from Fanbase Press! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! Much like anything, all things must come to an end! The end comes for books, tv shows, stories, movies, etc. No matter how good or bad something is, at some point in time it will end. Now, today especially, while we debate how good or bad this film/franchise is, we can't help but reflect on the franchise, as the next couple of movies mark the end of a franchise that has been on our screens for more than a decade! We are talking about the latest movie in the Fast and the Furious franchise, Fast X! "Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto and his family have outsmarted and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they must confront the most lethal opponent they've ever faced. Fueled by revenge, a terrifying threat emerges from the shadows of the past to shatter Dom's world and destroy everything -- and everyone -- he loves." Obviously, there is no love lost for the franchise when it comes to Doyle's position, but there is no denying that the franchise as a whole has had some impact on the industry! Whether you think that impact has been good or bad is really up to you, but you should at least give it a chance! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! Our time at Fan Expo came to and end pretty quickly, as many comic con's do. We're always excited to be there, and the weekend always flies by! With that in mind, our Fan Expo has come to an end, with an interview with an old friend. We had the chance to speak with AC Canales! An awesome artist, who we've had on the show before, and is always a pleasure to have on the show. AC is a nerd to the max, and has the ability to speak about almost every topic! This interview does touch base on his art, but we also had the opportunity to speak about some other topics! Check this interview out, and make sure that you go to our YouTube channel to check out some "AC & Me" episodes! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android | Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think!
