"Hot In The Shade" was a return to 'classic KISS'. By and large its a collection of fun rockers that takes itself a little less seriously, and lies in stark contrast, to their prior release, the 80's-glossed "Crazy Nights". Soon it would all be a mute point as the onset of grunge would send KISS on a fools errand resulting in gloriously heavy but ill-conceived "Carnival of Souls". Indeed, HITS finds KISS on a low budget, trimming sails, vamping up demos and polishing the ballad "Forever" enough to ensure an MTV hit video and a summer tour of the sheds as the band re-positioned themselves as 70's rockers still cool enough to matter at the end of the 80's, no small feat! - KISStorian.com
