Cheating Spouse Wants To Save The Marriage

Most of the time, when we hear about a marriage affected by an affair, the partner who was cheated on asks us to help them understand if they should try to save the marriage. And if so, how? If the straying spouse is still out somewhere, is there some way to get them to return to the marriage? But, a certain number of calls we get are just the opposite. The spouse who cheated has now come to their senses and said, "Wow, I want to save the marriage. But my spouse either isnt sure they want to, or theyve made up their mind. No, they can never forgive me for what I did. So, is there any hope for putting my marriage back together?" Actually, there is. And well talk about that on this episode of Relationship Radio. How Family And Relatives Can Hurt Your Marriage & What To Do About It

While marriage might be between two people, many other people can influence it. For example, parents, siblings, and even distant relatives can positively and negatively affect your marriage. Your family may lead you down the right path 99% of the time because they care about you. But biased people and biased advice can lead you to make poor decisions. This is especially true if you’re having troubles in your marriage. If you’ve determined that you can set enough STOPs and COREs that it’s safe to return to your relationship, you will have to stand firm against your family. You’ll get pushback from them, but set your parameters and expectations and stick to them. Demonstrate the changes that you make to everyone involved. The families involved are more likely to accept and support the marriage when they believe its a healthy marriage for both people. Has your spouse told you that they are just done with this marriage? How To Help Your Spouse Work Through Shame

We often hear that a couple can’t start to reconcile their marriage because one of them is too ashamed. They might have had an affair, gambled away their money, or had an addiction problem, and now they feel like their spouse won’t forgive them. Guilt can be a positive thing if it helps us realize we need to change. But long-term guilt can lead to a sense of shame that can affect your sense of self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem, and your physiology. People experiencing deep shame have to first realize what they are feeling before they can begin to heal. There are still ways that your spouse can help. Using SMART contact can help you remember to avoid PUSH behaviors, respond in a kind, strong, and gentle way, and take it one day at a time. What Is SMART Contact In Marriage?

If you’re going through a separation or a divorce, your spouse may have stopped wanting to communicate with you. At Marriage Helper, we’ve developed a method called SMART contact that we built just for this situation. SMART contact is an acronym that we use to describe the process a person can go through when they are trying to teach themselves how to best communicate with their spouse. SMART contact works. But even if you do everything right, your spouse has the free will to choose not to respond and continue leaving the marriage. But using this framework is the healthiest way of communicating, especially in a marriage in crisis. Communication in your marriage did not fall apart overnight, and it will not magically be repaired overnight either. Read further to see what SMART contact stands for and how it can be used to rebuild positive communication.

How Do I Get My Spouse To Forgive Me

Forgiveness can be difficult to both give and receive. When we’ve been hurt, especially by a loved one, that pain will take time to heal. The first and most important key to remember is that you can’t force forgiveness. Accept that your spouse has the right to forgive you or not. But is there a way to get your spouse to forgive you? Forgiveness must be earned. You can take several actions to aid this process, but everyone grieves at a different pace. Continuing to apologize might do more damage to your marriage than good. So, after you clearly, sincerely, and humbly apologize, continue to work on being the best version of yourself through working on physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual attraction. How To Tell Your Spouse You Cheated

Has your spouse ever given you an ultimatum? Have you given your spouse one? Not all types of ultimatums can be bad. Your motive behind them is what’s important. Are you trying to control them, or are you trying to protect them or your loved ones from their destructive behavior? An ultimatum says that a specific thing needs to stop or occur in a certain time frame; otherwise, a negative consequence will be the result. People react to demands such as this differently. There are psychological reasons behind this that start to develop when we are as small as two-years-old. The desire to follow your own free will is why ultimatums often get a negative response. However, that doesn’t mean that they don’t have their uses.
