Join us at Patreon.com/Prospect361 for ad-free podcast and tons of great Dynasty League and traditional one-year fantasy baseball information. Notes: Segment 1 – Review games of the weekend Additional Notes 1.Phew – Yamamoto had a better game on Saturday. 2.Oswaldo Cabrera is off to a strong start. 3.Mookie Betts is also off to a strong start. 4.Brice Turang and CJ Abrams are leading the league in three stolen bases. 5.The Yankees have taken three straight from the Astros Segment 2 – News and Notes 1.Royce Lewis is out with a quad injury and will be re-evaluated in a month. They promoted Austin Martin, but I assume Willi Castro gets the at-bats. Is there enough playing time for you to recommend Martin? a.Is Royce Lewis the next Byron Buxton? Tons of talent but just can’t stay healthy/ 2.Sean Murphy made it through seven innings before injuring his LAT and will be out for a while. I assume Travis D’Arnaud is the guy? 3.Justin Steele is hitting the IL, and the Cubs are promoting Ben Brown. A lot of people are excited about this. Are you? 4.Can we conclude that Esteury Ruiz is a platoon outfielder…and on the wrong side? 5.Jackson Holliday went 3 for 4 and missed the cycle by a triple. Three balls were hit over 100 MPH. He did make an error, though, so I guess the Orioles are right—he needs more time in the minor leagues. Segment 3 – Waiver Wire Segment 4 – Closer Report

2215 - 12 Things I'm anxious to see this season

Segment 1 – The Weather Segment 2 – Percota Segment 3 – 12 things I’m anxious to see this season 1.How do Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery get along this season? – Discuss the whole Broas setup this offseason and their having big seasons could go a long way to re-establishing Boras as the elite of elite agencies. If not, there might be a sea change in agency representatives. 2.Did the off-season training for Shane Bieber, Casey Mize, and Ryan Weathers truly make them better pitchers, or is this just Spring Training noise? 3.Giancarlo Stanton looks physically great, but will that translate into success on the field? He is the active leader in career home runs at 402 and still has a solid shot at 500. However, he’s 34, so he needs to have a bounce back year in order to stay on that pace. 4.Does Wyatt Langford pull a Mike Trout. There is not only some physical resemblance, but both made the minor leagues look easy and moved through quickly. Trout was a high school kid, but Langford is an older college player. 5.Will the Orioles outsmart themselves with Jackson Holliday? Will he stay down longer than we all think? I’ll explain. a.If he finishes in the Top 2 of ROY, then he automatically gets a year of service credited. b.If he doesn’t start the year on the 40-man, the Orioles can not get a draft pick if he finishes in the Top 3 of ROY voting. c.Bring up the signing of Tony Kemp. 6.Which Rookie not named Langford or Yamamoto will be Rookie of the Year? 7.Does Maikel Garcia add more power? 8.Will Estuery Ruiz be a true one-hit wonder? a.Will he get full-time playing time? b.There have been rumors of improved plate patience. Is that real? c.Side note – Is Victor Scott II going to be Estuery Ruiz 2.0? 9.Is Jarred Kelenic any good? 10.Will Nolan Jones take the next step, or will that .401 BABIP cause such a correction that managers who drafted him in the fourth round, are not going to be happy? 11.How good will Yamamoto be? 12.Is Gerrit Cole going to be ok or will he join the TJ Club? a.Will Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes return their 2022 form? b.Will Juan Soto have that magical season where he hits 50 home runs and drives in 120 with 120 runs scored?

Waiver Wire - Week of March 25, 2024

Fantasy Baseball Live – March 24, 2024 – 12:30 pm ET Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.The Ohtani Saga – I’ve written about this and even recorded a podcast on it. Would you care to weigh in? 2.Any takeaways from the Korean Series? 3.Blake Snell finally found a home earlier this week and will join the Giants’ staff sometime in April. I’m torn. I love where he landed, but I just hate the setup for fantasy managers. A new team, and rushing to get ready just doesn’t feel good. a.Your thoughts? 4.The Mets signed JD Martinez to a one-year, $12 million deal. Have the early shares of Mark Vientos expired worthless? a.JD Martinez hit 33 home runs last season. How many does he hit this season? i.Note: His exit velocity has been up and down over the past few years, but last year it was 93.4 MPH with a hard hit rate of 55% and a launch of 16.9 degrees. 5.Wyatt Langford starts the season in Texas, and Jackson Holliday will call Norfolk his home. a.Are the Orioles just being cheap? When do we see him in Baltimore? 6.Max Meyer also makes the Opening Day roster. Any interest? 7.The Rangers signed Michael Lorenzen to a one-year, $4.5 million contract. He’ll be starting at least early in the season. Any interest? Segment 2 – Waiver Wire Segment 3 – Closer Report Close

2212 - Tim's new rankings of Outfielders and Starting Pitching

Outfield 1.Tommy Edman drops 2.Wyatt Langford has to make the Ranger's opening-day lineup, doesn’t he? 3.Parker Meadows looks like a legitimate ROY candidate. 4.Ceddanne Rafael has to break camp in Boston? 5.Lawrence Butler having a good Spring and right now has to move up from his current #140 ranking. Starting Pitching 1.The following in my Top-30 in order are all hurt and likely to start the year on the IL. Garrett Cole Kevin Gausman Kodai Senga Eury Perez Kyle Bradish Justin Verlander In addition both Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery haven’t signed. Other injuries Gavin Williams #41 Braxton Garret #43 Lucas Giolito #61 Alek Manoah #104 •On a positive note Shane Bieber has looked great and needs to move up. Luis Severino has had a very good Spring as well. •Casey Mize needs to move up. A.J. Puk at #130 looks poised to start the year in the rotation. The only healthy starter in Miami that was projected to be in the rotation is Jesus Luzardo??? •Paul Skenes looks to be ready. The Pirates aren’t. I returned to my 2023 SP Rankings, and 18 of the top 50 are currently hurt. One is suspended, and two are unsigned. Only 3 of the Top-10 starters heading into 2023 will start the ’24 campaign. Relief Pitching The loss of Devin Williams has moved the Brewers pen from the #1 slot to a bottom five ranking.

2211 - Tim's new rankings of 1B, 2B, SS, and 3B

Segment 1 - News and Notes 1.Gerrit Cole has been shut down for a month with nerve inflammation in his pitching elbow. He will pick up a ball at that point to test things. a.This blows for people who drafted Cole in the first round. b.Who gets the starts for the Yankees? 2.Eury Perez's elbow is also barking, and he’s meeting with a surgeon this week to get a diagnosis. a.Another top-10 pitcher is gone. This is when I would like you to discuss your pitching narrative below. Only three of the top-10 starters in 2023 will begin the 2024 season, and 18 of 50 are hurt. b.Who gets the starts in Perez’s absence? 3.Devin Williams will be out for three months. Yikes. He was a top 3 closer off the board. Who do you pick up? – Miguel, Uribe, Payamps 4.Taj Bradley will start the season on the IL with pectoral discomfort. Who gets his starts in Tampa? 5.On a positive pitching note. Scherzer and Verlander are getting closer to picking up a baseball. 6.There was a big trade this week with the Padres on the move again. They acquired Dylan Cease for Drew Thorpe (the second time he’s been traded this offseason), Jairo Irarate, Sammy Zavala, and Steven Wilson. a.Do you like the move for fantasy managers who have drafted Cease? b.Do you move up Thorpe in your rankings? c.c. The Padres do this a lot: trade for big names. Will it work this time? The last I looked, they were in the same division as the Dodgers. 7.Shota Imanga has looked better than Yamamoto this spring. It had to said. Segment 2 – Updating Tim’s Rankings First Base 1.I’d move Rhys Hoskins up ahead of Sal Perez. He’s having a good Spring. Second Base 1.Drop Tommy Edman down below Gavin Lux. The wrist isn’t coming around and he is starting the season on the IL. It could turn out to be a long-term issue. 2.Drop Zach McKinstry down into the 30’s. He won’t be a full-time bat. 3.Drop Jonathan India down. 4.Move Brendan Rodgers up into the mid-20’s. 5.Joey Ortiz at #65 moves up into the high 20’s with the trade to Milwaukee. 6.Drop Taylor Walls down. Starting the season on the IL. Third Base 1.Drop Noelvi Marte. A reserve pick in 15-team ReDrafts. 2.It looks like the Joey Ortiz trade bumps Tyler Black down the board, as it should. 3.Colt Keith should slide up a few slots. Shortstop 1.Oneil Cruz has to move up. 2.Jackson Merrill has to move up as it looks like he’s making the Padres as the CF. 3.Masyn Winn and Brice Turang should be bumped up.

2208 - Outfield Sleepers

Fantasy Baseball Live – March 10, 2024 Segment 1 - News and Notes 1.Noelvi Marte gets suspended for 80 games to start the season after testing positive for a BAN PED. Given the length it takes to test, I’m wondering if he tested positive last season. a.When sports leagues try to convince us that PEDs are out of their league, it seems like they are more hopeful or just trying to convince us that their product is clean. Your thoughts…is Marte an anomaly or just a young kid who got caught? b.Break down the infield for the Reds to start the season. 2.It appears that Mookie Betts will gain SS eligibility after the Dodgers moved Gavin Lux to second with concerns about his ability to make the throw. a.I know we people get excited about what Ohtani can do, but moving from the outfield back to shortstop after not playing there for years is pretty impressive. I’m not sure fans have a true appreciation for this. b.Given this news, would you give pause to drafting Gavin Lux as a sleeper? It's not the lack of SS eligibility, but it appears he is not completely healthy. 3.Tommy Edman will start the season on the IL. Dylan Carlson gets another life. What about Victor Scott II? 4.Joey Votto signs a minor league deal with the Blue Jays. Any interest? 5.Nathaniel Lowe will start the season on the IL. It looks like Justin Foscue will get a chance. Also, this might give more confidence that Wyatt Langford will come North with the team. Although he’s been a monster this spring, keeping him down would be tough to do. Your thoughts? a.What happens when Lowe returns? 6.Fascinating article this week in the Athletic from Rangers head physician Dr. Keith Meister (he’s the inventor of the brace elbow surgery). His position is that many of the injuries occurring with pitchers are now just not velocity, but the expanded use of sweepers and power change-up (turbo change-up). I surmised that added horizontal movement from sweepers would tax the arm, but the power change-up was something I had not considered. He said it came a lot from how hard the player had to squeeze the ball. When you look at the pitchers with the highest change-up velos, it’s a little scary. 7.Lucas Giolito has a UCL tear and is getting a second opinion, but TJS looks likely. This will be his second. 8.Mason Black could be start the season in the Giants rotation. Any interest? Segment 2 – Outfield Sleepers – Please have five or so. 1.Jaren Duran (OF, Bos, ADP=167) – When I did my targets in December, his ADP was 200 2.Henry Davis (OF, Pit, 295) – When I did my targets in December, his ADP was 441 3.Riley Greene (OF, Det, 163) – He’s looking increasingly like he’ll start the season with full-time at-bats. Hits the ball hard with speed. Step up? 4.Dylan Crews (OF, Was, 570) – Yes, Wyatt Langford could be a monster, but people are forgetting about Crews and he’s free in drafts 5.Chase DeLauter (OF, Cle, 669) – He’s better than Ramon Laureano. Look for him in the second half. 6.Andy Pages (OF, LAD, 747) – I love the setup here despite no room at the inn.

Jackson Merrill (SD, #48) – He’s been moved to the outfield and this should make an easier path to the Majors e. Third Base i. Ke’Bryan Hayes (Pit, #17) ii. Maikel Garcia (KC, #21) iii. Bryan Ramos (CHW, #66) Segment 3 – When will these rookies make their debut and where should they really be taken 1. Jackson Chourio (Mil, 148 ADP) 2. Wyatt Langford (Tex, 154) 3. Segment 1 - News and Notes 1.Ronald Acuna tweaked his knee, and it was bad enough to do an MRI that revealed only inflammation. a.What do you do with this news if you have an upcoming draft? 2.Some players in danger of missing opening day – We will talk about each player/situation a.Alex Manoah and Yariel Rodriguez – Who would the Blue Jays turn to for the fifth starter? b.Vaughn Grissom – Who would get the second base reps? c.Justin Verlander has yet to throw in Spring Training d.Gunner Henderson is still recovering from his oblique injury but has started taking batting practice e. 3.The Giants sign Matt Chapman to a 3-year, $54 million contract. a.Thoughts on the signing b.Who looses playing time in San Francisco 4.Yamamoto started his first Spring Training game and looked good – 2 IP, 1 hit, 2 K’s, 0 BB Segment 2 - Infield Sleepers – One or two at each position. Mine are listed. a.Catcher i.Luis Campusano (SD, #17 catcher off the board) ii.Drew Romo (Col, #68) b.First Base i.Rhys Hoskins (Mil, #19) ii.Kyle Manzardo (Cle, #32) c.Second Base i.Gavin Lux (LAD, #24) ii.Thomas Saggese (STL, #57)

2202 - Pitching Sleepers

Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.Help me understand the Marlins signing of Tim Anderson. He’s there starting shortstop after posting a .245/.286/.296 slash line. That’s a .296 SLG! Nothing in his data points to a bounce back. Tim, what are they doing? 2.Riley Greene and Manny Machado were both questionable entering spring training but are scheduled to make their debuts next week. Are you moving them up in your draft rankings? 3.The Pirates signed a player! Mitch Keller signed a 5-year, $77 million contract this week. It seems pretty cheap, given how little pitching there is. a.Stat line for 2024 – IP, Ks, and ERA 4.Yuki Matsui looked impressive on Thursday. He struck out the side in 12 pitches. Remind everyone of your view on the Padres bullpen situation. 5.Casey Mize appears to be ready to go this spring, and few people are talking about him. He was a target of mine in Dynasty League startups, as people seem to have forgotten about him. After all, he was drafted 1:1 just a few years ago. Your thoughts on him? a.BTW, did you see that Skubal was throwing 100 MPH last week? 6.Kodai Senga. Yikes. Any early thoughts on who the Mets will turn to? 7.Aaron Judge this week said that his injured toe will require “constant maintenance” for the REST OF HIS CAREER! What? Do you downshift at all on him at the draft table? What about in Dynasty Leagues? a.Speaking of the Yankees…did you see Giancarlos Stanton? He looks like he lost 40 pounds. Segment 2 – Pitcher Sleepers. We will start to lay out our sleeper for the year. Please come up with five guys. My guys are below with a few extras. 1.Pablo Lopez (Min, 37.6) – Ace-level quality that you can get in the third round 2.Shane Bieber (Cle, 140.59) – His velo has taken a tick up this season, and that has been a problem for him over the past couple of years. I’ll take a gamble in the 9th round. 3.Nestor Cortes (NYY, 238.31) – Cortes’ data looks great and if he can stay healthy, he’s a steal in 15 to 16th round. 4.Casey Mize (Det, 415) – If he’s healthy, there are some pitch changes he’s made that should play well. 5.Christian Scott (NYM, 644) – With the injury to Senga, I like the setup for Scott this season. 6.Nick Nastrini (CHW, 665) – Four pitches, fastball up to 96. He’s a bit of a fly-ball hitter, and that could be problematic in Chicago, but overall, there is a #3 starter upside. 7.Cade Povich (Bal, 809) – The Orioles will need pitching help this season and I believe Povich could help. It’s a 94 to 95 MPH fastball with a high spin from the left side. He just needs to throw more strikes. Close

2199 - Top 10 mistakes to avoid at the draft table

Fantasy Baseball Live – February 18, 2024 Segment 1 – 10 mistakes to avoid at the draft table 1.Here are my five a.Don’t fall in love with a player and overdraft him. b.With catchers and pitchers reporting, it’s time to downshift on the big five Boras clients who have not signed. c.I know people are buying into the hype of Yamamoto, and he could be great. Be careful not to overdraft him, as he’s yet to pitch in the major leagues. He’s going as a fantasy ace. Just understand the risk if you make the pick. d.Best shape of my life translate into (I might have screwed up last season). I put on 20 pounds of muscle many times, translating to putting on weight (some good, some bad). VS. My fastball has increased velo by a meaningful amount. I’m going to add more launch to hit more home runs. i.Look for tangible changes, not platitudes, to alter your draft plan. e.If you don’t like a player, don’t draft him, no matter what others say. I will retell my Yasmanny Tomas story. Segment 2 - News and Notes 1.The spring has started off very poorly for the Orioles a.John Means admits he’ll likely start on the IL b.Even worse, Kyle Bradish has a torn UCL. He received a PRP injection and hopes to pitch again after rest and rehab. Uh oh... 2.The D-Backs sign Randal Grichuk. Any interest? Who loses playing time? 3.Josh Jung has been pushed back 2 to 3 weeks with a left calf strain. Any concerns? a.Does Justin Foscue get a chance this season? 4.With the addition of Dan Voglebach to the Blue Jays, A lot of online mems going around about the size of some of the Blue Jays (Vlad, Kirk, and Manoah) a.That said, Vlad has lost weight, and Manoah also looks to have. Thoughts? 5.Whitt Merrifield signs with the Phillies for $8 million, and it looks like he’ll be the super-sub. a.Stat line for 2024 – AB, HR, SB and BA 6.With the injury news and possible trade involving Kenley Jansen all over the place, you are suggesting people pick up Chris Martin. Can you elaborate?

Fantasy Baseball Live – February 4, 2024 Segment 1 – News and Notes 1.The Angelos family agreed to sell their team to a group headed by famed private equity manager David Rubenstein. Also included in the team is HOFer Cal Ripken and former NYC mayor and billionaire Mike Bloomberg. The Angelos family still has a controlling interest but has agreed to sell the team upon the passing of Peter Angelos, who is 94 and in failing health. a.While this doesn’t guarantee that the new ownership group will spend money, the Angelos family was not going to. Therefore, I think it’s a good thing for the Orioles franchise. Your thoughts? 2.Perhaps related to the sale, the following day, the Orioles acquired Corbin Burnes from the Brewers for IF Joey Ortiz, LHP DL Hall and the Orioles 1st round competitive balance pick (Pick #34). a.What did you think of the deal? Was it a win-win or did one side get the better of the other? b.You have to like the Orioles top three starters now in Burnes, G. Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish, no? c.Do you think the Brewers had to do this deal as the likelihood of signing Burnes, a Boras client, was next to zero? d.Are you investing in either Hall or Ortiz? 3.The A’s acquire Ross Stripling. It’s not great stuff but he throws strikes. Any interest? 2191 - Rich answers your Prospect Questions (Part 2)

Prospect Questions – Part 2 Q1 – Greg K. (Patreon) 1.Prospect cut-down day after FYPDs is always tricky. Any thoughts on the general makeup of your prospects? For example, do you lean a certain percentage hitter vs. pitcher? Floor vs. upside? Positional need vs. best players available? Thanks, Rich! Q2 – Bob K (Patreon) Darren Bowen was one of the prospects traded to the Twins as part of the Polanco deal. I had not heard much, if anything, about him until now. Curious as to your thoughts. Thanks! Q3 – John D (Patreon) My favorite thing on the Patreon service is your breakdown of players using baseballsavant. I’ve learned so much, but still have a long way to go. You’ve mentioned several times that if a player adds loft, they could also see an increase in their strikeout rate. Why is this? Thanks and keep up the great work. Q4 – Jon Dean (Patreon) Would like to hear a breakdown of the top college prospect, JJ Weatherholt. Is he a Gunnar Henderson type or a Bryson Stott type? West Virginia minds are inquiring. Q5 - Matt D (Patreon) 1.What happened to Jacob Berry? They don't give $6M bonuses to just anyone. 2.Is D.J. Herz a closer in waiting? And should I care? Q6 - Mike H (Patreon) 1.Hey rich, what would you do in dynasty with prospects who are no longer prospects. For me I have guys like Alec Burleson, Mark Vientos, Jordan Diaz and Drew Waters. These are four edge cases I have to make choices on. I can see scenarios where maybe one of them breaks out but it’s so hard, especially with a competitive team. Thanks! Q7 - Dustin P (Patreon) 1.How about Paul Skenes. I want him in a dynasty league but he’s with the pirates and that scares me. I’m leaning towards taking Dylan Crews. Q8 - Albert C (Patreon) 1.Over the next 5 years who has 1st round upside with an adjustment to their profile? You were so good in pointing out Acuna before most. Who are we etching into our wood tables?

Prospect All-Request – January 31, 2024 Q1 – MIKE W. (PATREON) Any advice for keeper leagues? Any Rule 5 guys to keep an eye on? Q2 – CHRIS 1. I hear you talk about spin rates or chase rates for MiLB players and I want that data. Is Statcast data publicly available for MiLB players? If so where? (I think I would even pay for it) I know you can look it up for AAA games, but it's pretty much the only source I know about. 2. Any DSL or J15, other then big $ guys, that you're hearing are potential impact players? 3. What do you think is/are the most important statistic(s) to look at when stat scouting MiLB hitters or pitchers? Q3 – RANDMM (X) 1. Maybe more a "Tim" question, and hopefully it's not "0.0"... New to .5 holds and I "don't pay for saves" - does "pay for holds" strategy work? i.e. Hader, $22 last year - multiple $7 [Tim saves poacher/high k/9/holds leader] instead? NLonlydynasty thinking Uribe/Kekering types? Q4 – ROBBY (PATREON AND X) 1. Colt Keith and Cayden Wallace Q5 – NICK (X) 1. How much does Nick Yorkes value change with the acquisition of Vaughn Grissom? Q6 – PAUL (PATREON) 1. How much stock should we put in our analysis of minor leaguers' splits by month? For example, Rece Hinds and Cam Collier are two players who turned their seasons around with significantly better performances in the 2nd Half of the season. Hinds - 1st half = 255/311/515 and 39.2% K rate Hinds - 2nd half = 289/355/566 and 26.7% K rate Collier - 1st half = 202/310/320 and 27.5% K rate Collier - 2nd half = 283/382/387 and 23.7% K rate Do you think that's real improvement due to the player developing? Or do you think that's a result of the best pitchers getting promoted? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. Fun question - What's your favorite minor league park? What's the minor league park that you've always wanted to visit that you haven't seen a game at yet? Thanks for the everything! Keep up the great work! Q7 – DAVID B. (PATREON) How good can Henry Davis be?

2188 - First Year Player Draft (First Round)

The following players are discussed: 1. Wyatt Langford (OF, Tex) - He has 20-30 upside with high OBP skills, and it won’t take him long to make his Major League debut. 2. Dylan Crews (OF, Was) - He has an advanced approach at the plate with high-end exit velocities. 3. Paul Skenes (RHP, Pit) - He has the size and arsenal to be a #1 starter. Given how hard he throws, there is risk of early arm troubles, as seen with Hunter Greene. 4. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (RHP, LAD) - The stat line says he's a CY Young pitcher. His physicality gives me pause. 5. Walker Jenkins (OF, Min) - Athletic with a lefty swing built for 30+ home run future pop. 6. Max Clark (OF, Det) - Extremely athletic with plus speed and plenty of bat speed to project future power. 7. Matt Shaw (SS, CHC) - Plus power with a feel to hit and speed early in his career. 8. Colt Emerson (2B, Sea) - High-floor player who should hit with 15+ home run pop. 9. Kyle Teel (C, Bos) - He has a plus hit tool with average power. 10. Noble Meyer (RHP, Mia) - He has all the building blocks to pitch at the top of the rotation. 11. Rhett Lowder (RHP, Cin) - 70-grade change-up with a chance for at least a 60 slider. Plus, he throws strikes. If the Reds can get him to throw harder, he has the ceiling of a number two starter. 12. Hurston Waldrep (RHP, Atl) - He has a solid fastball-splitter combination, and with some tweaks to his delivery, he could develop into a top-of-the-rotation starter. His control is currently well below average. 13. Brayden Taylor (3B, TB) - High OBP skills with 20+ home run pop with solid speed. 14. Tommy Troy (3B, AZ) - A potential plus hit tool with above-average speed and power. 15. Enrique Bradfield (OF, Bal) - An 80-grade runner that, with some swing tweaks, could unlock power. The Orioles are a perfect landing spot for him. 16. Colin Houck (SS, NYM) - He has a feel to hit with speed and power. 17. Bryce Eldridge (1B, SF) - His carrying tool is his 70-grade raw power. However, at 6-foot-7, there are concerns about how much contact he will make.
