Ep. 78 - Kyle Keller

Kyle Keller is the Americana/folk artist you wish you had discovered sooner. His rolling melodies and potent lyrics will leave you questioning every moment since you last heard his growling bass vocals. Kyle’s self-described “sad songs” are raw, unfiltered, and distinctly relatable. His ability to take you on a discovery of emotion through story-telling is entirely unrivaled. “Kyle Keller is that kind of folk artist that is actually worthy of the name. He is a communicator, a story teller, and a prophet of sorts. He approaches songs in the same way as every good folk and blues singer of old, with a message. I have had the joy of following Kyle over the last few years, and I have seen him blossom into one of the finest young lyricists that I know. I travel to songwriter events all over this country, and to find a poet of his caliber is rare… not to mention a poet of his age. Kyle has a voice that reminds me of the great Townes Van Zandt. Not in its tone, but in the way that it fits his material. Kyle has developed a style around his voice. That is not easy to do. His writing is reminiscent of John Moreland’s, but with the heart of Dylan. It is emotional, and confrontational. It speaks to today. It is current. It is important. He is like a modern Guthrie, and it would behoove you to acquaint yourself with his art.” -Abe Partridge The Great American Highway is a traveler’s record and a road record if there ever was one… The album is filled with important little affirmations about being yourself and following your heart, regardless of the often superficial or adverse outcomes, with the most important thing being that you endure and hold onto yourself, at least until you die with a life fulfilled from following your purpose. There are also some important ruminations on the nature of time and not allowing oneself to waste it by doing things you don’t want to do… Kyle Keller invokes the most severe aspects of Hank Williams and Edgar Allan Poe in the pretty devastating “This Town’s Gonna Swallow You Whole.” Then he takes it even further in the final song on the album about losing someone you love, “Why Would God Steal?” Overall, this is a moody and gloomy work, though one that searches and yearns for inner peace, while also conferring and appreciation for life’s bounties and discovery. 8/10″ –Kyle “Trigger” Coroneos, Saving Country Music https://kylekellermusic.bandcamp.com https://www.instagram.com/kylekellermusic/ https://www.youtube.com/@UC1zi7pQArSNOP_utk5GYD5g https://paintedladyrecords.us https://open.spotify.com/artist/5fsYHpNeJBGlsYTKte8g8O?si=hkCMShupTYOjc2M09pCnqQ https://www.facebook.comcautionlightmedia/ https://www.instagram.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ https://www.facebook.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.com https://somethinginthewater.captivate.fm https://www.patreon.com/somethinginthewater

Ep. 77 - Scott Stuckey

Influential filmmaker, music video director, and innovative kid’s TV show creator Scott Stuckey is our guest. Grandson of the originator of Stuckey’s, the 60s yellow-roofed, highway, pecan praline and gift shop franchise, Scott is quite the successful entrepreneur as well. Born in Eastman, Georgia and relocating to Washington, D.C., where his father W.S. Stuckey, Jr. was a Congressman for 10 years, Scott was attracted to the fledgling punk music scene, forging friendships that would affect his future in the film and music industry. While living in Athens, Georgia, he recorded bands in his home studio, working on projects with R.E.M. and Vic Chessnut. In 2003, he created Pancake Mountain, a music based, cable-access children’s show that became a public-access cult classic featuring guests like The White Stripes, Eddie Vedder, Kings of Leon, Katy Perry, Bright Eyes, Shirley Manson, George Clinton, Chuck Leavell, and actress Juliette Lewis. Beyond those achievements, he directed music videos for Chessnut, Widespread Panic, and Garbage, to name a few. While visiting family in the Golden Isles, Something In The Water cohost, Sean Clark, made his acquaintance, leading the two to work together on a Pine Box Dwellers music video for “Devil’s Den”, an original song cowritten by Sean and Uncle Dave Griffin, which made its internet debut two days ago. https://youtu.be/esl-hSEWzsI?si=7JRJU1LMkI-cZFf9 https://www.facebook.comcautionlightmedia/ https://www.instagram.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ https://www.facebook.com/somethinginthewaterpodcast/ somethinginthewaterpodcast@gmail.com https://somethinginthewater.captivate.fm https://www.patreon.com/somethinginthewater

Ep. 65 - David Kraai

David Kraai (pronounced cry, meaning crow) is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and bandleader who has been traveling and performing his melting pot of country, folk and rock for over a decade. His roots stem from New York’s Hudson Valley, but his music has taken him all over the United States, and at times abroad, gaining him an ever-growing fan base. Carrying on the tradition of Cosmic American Music, David’s influences include Gram Parsons, Neil Young, Bob Dylan and The Band. These influences along with his unique sense of melody and lyric help create a sound that is truly his own. Kraai has been fortunate enough to release several albums and share stages and bills with some of his heroes like Pete Seeger, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Dickey Betts, Leon Russell, Charlie Louvin, Dr. Ralph Stanley and more. David Kraai’s new album, North Mountain Rambling, was recorded in the basement of the legendary Big Pink - a house just outside of Woodstock, New York. It’s been fifty years since Bob Dylan and The Band recorded The Basement Tapes there and this is the first album recorded and released from Big Pink since those historic sessions. Performers on the album include Dylan alumni Rob Stoner (Rolling Thunder Revue, Desire, Hard Rain, At Budokan, Live 1975) and Eric Weissberg (Blood On The Tracks, "Dueling Banjos"), in his final session.

Ep. 62 - Darowyn Lee

In Episode 62, Something In The Water Podcast cohosts Sean Clark and Uncle Dave Griffin welcome Mr. Darowyn Lee, Sr., longtime piano player, songwriter, and front man of local bands in and around South Georgia. Born in 1941 and raised just outside of Waycross in Bickley, Georgia, Darowyn began playing the piano at the age of 13. In ’58, he formed his first band, The Rebel Rousers, playing the music of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Fats Domino, at University of Georgia frat parties. Throughout the 60s and 70s, he played just about every dive bar covering Georgia and Florida, including Waycross’s Howard’s Peppermint Lounge, Hub’s, Steve’s Pine Room, and The Bombardier, and once backed a young lady by the name of Loretta Lynn onstage at the Waycross City Auditorium. Ep. 61 - Jamie Stewart

Episode 58 is a Family Affair without Mr. French, Uncle Bill, and Jody. Instead we have cohosts Mr. Sean Clark and Uncle Dave Griffin, along with their guest, Jamie Stewart. A pictorial trip down musical memory lane with high school friends at Club CiraSomething in bands Twist of Fate, Slush Puppy, and Fat Baby Angels. More Sean and Jamie reminiscences of Stage-Crushing, Crowd-Surfing, Pit-Moshing Concert Tales of Horror and Fun.
