What God Showed Me At The Playground | Todd Coconato Show Website: www.PastorTodd.org http://www.PastorTodd.orgTo give: www.ToddCoconato.come/give http://www.ToddCoconato.come/give Yesterday afternoon, I took my daughter to the playground and God showed me something… Life, in many ways, can be likened to a playground—a place filled with opportunities, challenges, and a spectrum of experiences. From a Biblical Christian perspective, this analogy can help us understand the journey of faith, the choices we make, and the attitudes we hold toward life's ups and downs.   Just as a playground is dotted with slides, swings, and sandboxes, life presents us with a variety of paths and experiences. The biggest slides could symbolize the moments that require courage and faith, the opportunities to step out in trust, believing that God is with us even in the most daunting challenges. My daughter was scared and shaky, but she knew her father was with her so she went to the highest slide and when she did, she loved it! These moments often lead to significant growth and exhilarating experiences in our faith journey, much like the thrill of going down the biggest slide.   On any playground, you'll notice some children hesitantly watching from the sidelines, perhaps overwhelmed by fear or discouraged by a previous fall. Similarly, in life, some of us find ourselves on the sidelines, held back by fear, past failures, or a sense of inadequacy. We watch others embrace the fullness of life's playground, longing to join but unsure if we can. Instead, we remain on the bench. I even saw a few kids crying. Crying at the playground? They were missing out on a good day and many awesome memories!   The Bible encourages us to not be controlled by fear but to trust in God's presence and promises. Isaiah 41:10 says, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." This verse is a gentle nudge to step into the playground of life, reassured of God's unfailing support and guidance. We need to get off the bench and participate. We still have many opportunities ahead, and we need to enjoy the moment.   The playground is most enjoyed when we participate fully, whether that's by tackling the biggest slide, swinging as high as we can, or simply enjoying the sandbox. Similarly, life is richest and most fulfilling when we engage with the opportunities God places before us, using our talents for His glory, and stepping out in faith where He leads! Paul's words in Philippians 4:12-13 remind us of the secret to contentment and strength in every situation: "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, ... I can do all this through him who gives me strength."   Encouragement to Step Off the Sidelines   For those of us on the sidelines, it might be time to wipe away our tears and trust that the same God who created the universe is with us on the playground of life. He's cheering us on, ready to catch us if we fall, and encouraging us to experience the fullness of life in Him.   The playground analogy serves as a reminder that life, with its challenges and joys, is an opportunity for us to live boldly and faithfully. It invites us to move beyond our fears, to embrace the adventures God has in store, and to experience the profound joy and fulfillment that come from trusting and walking with Him.   So, whether you're facing the biggest slide of your life or you find yourself sitting out, remember that the Lord is with you, offering strength, courage, and joy for the journey. Let's step into the playground of life with faith, ready to experience all the beautiful moments God has prepared for us.   You are greatly loved by God!   -Pastor Todd

“Die To Self” • Sunday Service

Starting scripture: Isaiah chapter 6 1. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3. And one cried to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!" 4. And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5. So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." 6. Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged." 8. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." 9. And He said, "Go, and tell this people: 'Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.' 10. "Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed." 11. Then I said, "Lord, how long?" And He answered: "Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant, The houses are without a man, The land is utterly desolate, 12. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His." 3. **Matthew 16:24**: "Then Jesus said to His disciples, 'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.'" 4. **John 12:25**: "He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life." 5. **Luke 14:33**: "So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple." 6. **Galatians 5:24**: "And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." 7. **Philippians 2:5-7**: "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men." 8. **2 Peter 3:11-12**: "Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" 9. **James 4:10**: "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up."

Practicing Mindfulness: Mindfulness, from a Christian perspective, involves intentionally directing our thoughts and attention towards God's presence and truth in every aspect of our lives. By staying mindful of His presence, we cultivate a deeper awareness of His guidance and sovereignty. Guarding Against Negative Influences: In a world saturated with messages that contradict God's truth, believers must be vigilant in guarding their minds against negative influences. This may involve limiting exposure to media or content that promotes ungodly values and ideologies, while actively seeking out sources of spiritual nourishment and edification. The Fruit of Transformation: The transformation of the mind yields abundant fruit in the life of the believer: Renewed Perspective: A transformed mind enables us to see ourselves, others, and the world around us through the lens of God's love and truth. We gain clarity and wisdom in navigating life's challenges and uncertainties, trusting in His providence and sovereignty. Empowered Living: With a renewed mind comes a sense of empowerment to live boldly and authentically for Christ. Freed from the constraints of worldly thinking, we are emboldened to pursue God's purposes with passion and conviction, knowing that He equips and empowers us for every good work. Can We Stop In-Fighting? | The Todd Coconato Show   Website: www.PastorTodd.org http://www.PastorTodd.org To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give http://www.ToddCoconato.com/give   I don’t like to argue over doctrinal variances.   We are in such a battle right now and the last thing we need to be doing is arguing over age-old doctrinal variations. I’m not talking about heresy, I’m talking about areas of theological differences in the Body. Matters that are NOT Heaven or hell, salvation issues. We do call out false teachings and things that don’t align with scripture as we are called to do.   Some people believe in women preachers, some don’t. Some people believe in a pre-trib rapture, some don’t. Some people believe that Christians can have demons, and some don’t.   We need to take these matters to the Lord. We need to seek His heart on these matters. There are some things that will always be debated until we go home with the Lord. I am not your enemy if you don’t see completely eye to eye with me in one of these areas. I respect your view.   Dr. Hayford used to say, “Let’s focus on the 98% we agree on rather than the 2% we don’t”.   Right now, we are in a war. We need to stand together. We need to know who the real enemy is. It’s not other believers. We need to stop attacking each other. We can agree to disagree on some of these doctrinal variations. Don’t get distracted. That’s what they want!   While the Bible does not explicitly say, "Do not argue over scripture," it does provide guidance on how believers should approach disagreements and disputes within the body of Christ.   Here are a few relevant passages:   1. 2 Timothy 2:23-24 “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful."   2. Titus 3:9 “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless."   3. James 1:19-20 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires."   4. Romans 14:1 “Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters."   These passages emphasize the importance of avoiding pointless arguments and quarrels over non-essential matters of faith. Instead, believers are encouraged to be kind, patient, and quick to listen, seeking unity and understanding within the body of Christ.   While healthy discussions and debates about scripture can be beneficial for learning and growth, it is crucial to maintain a spirit of humility, love, teachability, and respect towards one another, recognizing that unity in Christ is paramount.   People are always trying to pull me into these different arguments. I’m not going to do it. I am too focused on soul-winning and the real battle at hand. If they want to have a kind discussion, I would love to speak with them. This is not the world, we are the Body of Christ and we need to act like Christ.

Pressing Ahead Through Trials and Tribulations | The Todd Coconato Show  Website: www.PastorTodd.org http://www.PastorTodd.org To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give http://www.ToddCoconato.com/give The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 3:13-14, "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Here, Paul speaks to the essence of our Christian journey – a continuous pressing forward, a striving towards the call and purpose God has placed upon our lives, despite the past or the obstacles that lie in our path. In Romans 5:3-4, we find encouragement in suffering, "And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." These words remind us that our trials are not in vain; they are the very process by which God shapes us into vessels of His hope and light. James 1:2-4 echoes this sentiment, urging us, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." It is through steadfast faith and patience that we are made complete in Christ, fully equipped for every good work. But how do we navigate these trials? The Psalmist gives us a beautiful image of God's guidance and comfort in Psalm 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." In the midst of our darkest valleys, God is with us, His rod and staff guiding and comforting us, reminding us that we are never alone. Our Lord Jesus Himself assures us of peace amidst tribulation in John 16:33, saying, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." In Christ, we have a peace that transcends understanding, a peace that enables us to remain joyful and courageous, even when faced with life's storms. The call to be steadfast in faith is further emphasized in 1 Corinthians 15:58, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." Our perseverance in faith and good works is never futile; it has eternal significance and reward. In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, Paul speaks to the resilience of the believer, "We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed." This passage is a powerful testament to the resilience that we have through Christ. Despite the pressures and challenges we face, we are never abandoned by God; His grace sustains us, enabling us to rise again, stronger and more determined. The strength to press ahead also comes from the assurance of God's unfailing love and faithfulness, as declared in Lamentations 3:22-23, "Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." Every day, we are recipients of God's new mercies, a reminder that with each sunrise comes fresh strength and hope for the journey. Hebrews 12:1-2 exhorts us to run with endurance the race set before us, "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." Jesus is not only our example but also the source of our strength and the one who perfects our faith as we keep our eyes fixed on Him. Finally, in Isaiah 40:31, we find the promise of renewed strength for those who hope in the Lord, "But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." This verse assures us that in waiting upon the Lord, in trusting Him through every season of our lives, He renews our strength, enabling us to soar above the challenges, to run without growing weary, and to walk without fainting. Brothers and sisters, as we face the tests and trials of life, let us remember that we do not do so in our own strength, but in the strength that God provides. Let us press ahead, not with fear or hesitation, but with confidence and hope, knowing that our God is with us, guiding us through every challenge, and leading us into victory. May we go forth in this assurance, pressing ahead with faith, and looking unto Jesus, the perfecter of our faith, who leads us on to glory.

Jesus compares the narrow gate to the “broad road” which leads to destruction (hell) and says that “many” will be on that road. By contrast, Jesus says that “small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” What exactly is meant by this? Just how many are the “many” and how few are the “few”? First, we need to understand that Jesus is the Door through which all must enter eternal life. There is no other way because He alone is “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). The way to eternal life is restricted to just one avenue—Christ. In this sense, the way is narrow because it is the only way, and relatively few people will go through the narrow gate. Many more will attempt to find an alternative route to God. They will try to get there through manmade rules and regulations, through false religion, or through self-effort. These who are “many” will follow the broad road that leads to eternal destruction, while the sheep hear the voice of the Good Shepherd and follow Him along the narrow way to eternal life (John 10:7-11). While there will be relatively few who go through the narrow gate compared to the many on the broad road, there will still be multitudes who will follow the Good Shepherd. The apostle John saw this multitude in his vision in the book of Revelation: “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” (Revelation 7:9-10). Entering the narrow gate is not easy. Jesus made this clear when He instructed His followers to “strive” to do so. The Greek word translated “strive” is agonizomai, from which we get the English word agonize. The implication here is that those who seek to enter the narrow gate must do so by struggle and strain, like a running athlete straining toward the finish line, all muscles taut and giving his all in the effort. But we must be clear here. No amount of effort saves us; salvation is by the grace of God through the gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). No one will ever earn heaven by striving for it. But entering the narrow gate is still difficult because of the opposition of human pride, our natural love of sin, and the opposition of Satan and the world in his control, all of which battle against us in the pursuit of eternity. The exhortation to strive to enter is a command to repent and enter the gate and not to just stand and look at it, think about it, complain that it’s too small or too difficult or unjustly narrow. We are not to ask why others are not entering; we are not to make excuses or delay. We are not to be concerned with the number who will or will not enter. We are to strive forward and enter! Then we are to exhort others to strive to enter before it’s too late.

The first is reading the Bible. In order to stop doubting, trust must be built. But it is hard to trust a stranger, or even an occasional acquaintance. When salvation occurs and the Holy Spirit takes up residence in one’s heart, it is just the beginning of a lifelong journey (and beyond) of getting to know God. The primary way of knowing God is reading the Bible. One thing that the Bible makes abundantly clear is that God is faithful, trustworthy, and good. As we fill our minds with the proofs of God’s power and love through history, we are better able to overcome doubt. “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17).   The Bible is unique because it is God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16), which means the words on the pages may look ordinary but they are inspired by the Holy Spirit. God’s Word even “judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Bible reading encourages us (Romans 15:4), satisfies and sustains us (Matthew 4:4), and guides us through life better than any GPS (Psalm 119:105). The Bible simultaneously reveals God to us—what He is like, what He loves, and what He hates. And the more a believer learns about the person of God, the more his faith will increase—and the less he will doubt. The second way Christians can stop doubting God is prayer. Prayer may be the most difficult discipline to develop in the believer’s life, but it is also the most rewarding. Our reading of Scripture should prompt our praying. In Daniel 9:2–3, we read, “I, Daniel, understood from the Scriptures, according to the word of the Lord given to Jeremiah the prophet, that the desolation of Jerusalem would last seventy years. So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.” In other words, Daniel knew from Scripture that God was going to end Israel’s captivity, and that knowledge spurred him to pray. Why did Daniel pray for what he already knew would happen? Because Daniel knew that God uses the prayers of His people in the working out of His eternal purposes. If God is so benevolent that He would allow us such an important place in His plan for this world, surely we can trust Him to hear our prayers and answer them. Not only does God hear our prayers, but whatever we ask in accordance with His will shall come to pass (Luke 11:9–13). In the words of Andrew Murray, “Let no delay shake our faith. Of faith it holds good: first the blade, then the ear, then the full corn in the ear. Each believing prayer brings a step nearer the final victory. Each believing prayer helps to ripen the fruit and bring us nearer to it; it fills up the measure of prayer and faith known to God alone; it conquers the hindrances in the unseen world; it hastens the end.” Our prayers should be made daily, in a quiet place with no distractions. It’s good to keep a prayer journal. There’s no need to write down every detail of your prayers, but do write some of your petitions, and, when God answers, write that down also. It won’t be long before you have a bona fide record of how God supernaturally speaks into the lives of His children through answered prayer. This can be a tremendous help in overcoming doubt. God doesn’t want His people to doubt Him; He wants them to be confident in His love, watchfulness, and protection. Do not hesitate to call to Him; He has promised to answer (Jeremiah 33:3).
